Made with the finest Stainless Steel
that will last !
Not cheap aluminum that will dissolve in
your soil !
*Saddle clamp to mount the DX
Engineering Radial Plate to a ground mounted pipe is sold
separately.
Don't forget to order the
correct
bulkhead
or
SO-239
connector! The coaxial cable shield must be securely connected to the
radial plate to handle RF ground current.
Unique enough to be covered by
two US Patents, the DX Engineering Radial Plate is meant for those of you that
have or are building a quarter wave vertical antenna and who want an easy, neat
and effective way to connect those essential radial wires and the coax to your
vertical antenna for the lowest takeoff angle and strongest signals.
Stainless steel construction assures that your signal won't disappear like
a disintegrating aluminum radial plate.
Why do you need radial wires when
the antenna manufacturer says just hook up to a ground rod? For an easy to
understand explanation please read,
how
just a few radials can do wonders for your signal by WB2WIK/6.This
plate will work perfectly with most commercially available vertical antennas
such as the
Hustler BTV series (4BTV thru
the 6BTV), the SteppIR (BiggIR or SmallIR) or one of your own
construction.
When used with the
Hy-Gain AV-18HT Hy-Tower antenna, the radial plate will sit on
the concrete under the base plate and will fit within the three
concrete-mounted base/insulator pipes. With its optional SO-239
connector, the radial plate will provide the perfect connection between the coax
shield and the ground radial system. If necesary, a couple of concrete lag
bolts can hold it securely in place.
The DX Engineering Radial
Plate has a number of advantages over the other plates on the
market:First, the DX Engineering Radial Plate
will attach easily and rigidly to a
4x4 or 6x6 wooden post using simple wood screws, a
steel or aluminum pipe,(up to 2.0 in. outside diameter)
using one of our saddle clamps, a fence post or whatever you have
supporting your vertical.
For STEEL pipe from 1" to 2" O.D. the
new all-Stainless Steel SSVC-2P
is the recommended clamp.
For pipe or
rod whose O.D. is between 0.50 in. and 1.75 in. then the
DXE-CAVS-11P V-saddle
clamp is recommended. For tubing from 1 in.to 2 in. O.D.,
use the
DXE-CAVS-2P
V-saddle clamp.
Second, this plate actually
has a place where you can attach your coax! What a concept! The plate assembly
has been drilled for the readily available, optional
SO-239 Chassis Mount and Bulkhead
Fittings. This is a
MUST item for proper
handling of RF ground current!
If you are going to be using either a
Hustler or other brands of commercially available verticals, this is how
you use a
Bulkhead
Fitting as a pass thru for your coax connection on the way to the antenna
from the Radial Plate. This will ground your coax to the radial plate before it
goes to the antenna. The radials in the pictures will grow into the grass and
become invisible. We used red wires to illustrate the principle. You should
probably use green or black.
If you are going to be using a Home Brew
vertical using aluminum tubing, then use a genuine Amphenol
SO-239 panel mount connector complete with the
correct Stainless Steel attaching hardware. Either the
Standard
(DXE-83-1R-KIT) or
High-Power
Teflon style (DXE-83-798-KIT) kits will work.
Regardless of how
you do it, it is
imperative that your coax be grounded to the radials
to complete the circuit for your radial current.
Third, the DX
Engineering
Radial
Plate is laser cut from tough stainless steel so that it has smooth edges,
won’t corrode and will always look good. You will be proud of how good your
installation looks.
There are similar plates
available made of aluminum which will dissolve in the soil - especially salty
soil. Our Stainless Steel plate will look the same - after being buried
for 20 years - as it did when you first took it out of the package.
".....it is so beautiful, I want to frame it
and put it up on the wall - not in the dirt under my vertical.
Sebastian - NS0W"
Fourth, it is square. Why? Because a
square has more lineal distance around it than the round plates that you usually
see. This allowed us to put 60 holes in it; use larger bolts for more clamping
power and still not crowd them together. So, if you want to go all-out with
60-120 radials you will able to put them on easily. Remember: The more current
that flows in through your radials and then through this plate, the stronger
your signal is going to be and the more DX stations that you are going to hear.
So, put on as many radials as you can.
Fifth, we supply
the correct Stainless Steel bolts, nuts, star washers, flat washers and lock
washers to attach the radials. Since we don’t know how many radials that you
want to attach (some experts suggest at least 32 radials) we include the first
20 sets of hardware with the plate. This means that with the supplied hardware
that you can attach 20 radials or double them up and attach 40. If you want to
attach more, then just order
additional
sets of radial plate hardware. (DXE-RADP-1HWK).
Why a 1/4 in.
bolts and not the
cheaper #10 that others use? Because the ¼ inch bolt
has a lot more clamping force for the best connection possible. The Stainless
Steel external star washers that we supply have about twice the area of even the
best star washers for the smaller bolts. You want the best connection that you
can
get
here. If you are serious about making your vertical work then you want this
first class
radial
plate hardware from DX Engineering.
Also, DX
Engineering now carries pre-cut radial wire kits for the
10,
15, 20,
40
and
80m
bands complete with connector hardware. We also carry
Bulk Radial Wire
Kits for those that wish to build their own radial system. Our kits
include 500 or 1000 ft spools of wire, lawn staples to hold the wire down and
the ring terminals necessary to attach the radials to the radial
plate.

Radial Plate is
made of 304 Stainless Steel, .125 inch thick, 12" x 12" outside dimensions. The
use of an anti-seize compound such as
Never-Seez must be used with any Stainless Steel
hardware to prevent galling.
