The DX Engineering fast taper 30VE-1 is a high-performance, self-supporting vertical antenna system that operates over the entire 30 meter band* with an SWR of less than 1.5:1, yet is only 24 feet high. The fast taper element provides the lowest wind resistance. This vertical uses no coils or linear loading elements. Designed with drawn 6063 corrosion-resistant aluminum tubing and stainless steel hardware, this antenna is very durable and attractive.

*Full 20 meter band coverage is available by simply telescoping the tubing to 16 feet.

Rugged aluminum alloy 6063 is most commonly used for seamless structural tube and pipe. It is popular in structural use for both its high strength and great, long lasting appearance. Alloy 6063 provides great resistance to general corrosion, including resistance to stress-corrosion cracking.

With excellent surface appearance, 6063 is the best alloy for high strength, long lasting antenna applications.

The massive fiberglass channel insulator supporting the 6063 drawn aluminum antenna radiator has over twice the tensile and flexural strength of competitive nylon materials, and is superior for its RF handling characteristics.

With this antenna, you get full-size 30 meter performance for maximum signal and DX performance.  It may also be telescoped to 16 feet for full-size 20 meter operation.

Of course, another key to performance in any 1/4 wave vertical is a good ground radial system. For best performance on  30  meters, 32 radials, 20 feet long are recommended. Fewer radials will work, but with diminishing results.

The DX Engineering 30VE-1 vertical antenna system includes:

Additional Material Needed but not Supplied

  • Mounting pipe - Steel pipe, 1.75″ OD, 0.125″ min to 0.25″ wall thickness, 4 feet long
  • Quik-set concrete for mounting pipe installation
  • Radial wire and wire lugs - Use 14 gauge stranded copper wire with PVC insulation. Minimum of 16 radials, 20 feet long. Bulk Radial Wire Kits using the highest quality components are available for purchase.
  • Penetrox - To ensure good connection between aluminum hardware and in-between aluminum tubing sections.
  • Anti-seize compound - which should be used on the threads of the Stainless Steel Hardware.
DX Engineering highly recommends the additional purchase of a Vertical Feedline Current Choke Kit, DX Engineering Radial Plate and a Tilt Base for use with the 30 meter Vertical Antenna.

A DX Engineering Vertical Feedline Current Choke or line isolator is used to optimize the performance of many kinds of antenna systems, including verticals. It prevents unwanted RFI by eliminating feedline current and radiation. By eliminating stray currents from the feedline all power goes to the antenna, and any noise or unwanted signals picked-up by the feedline are eliminated, improving efficiency. Using a feedline choke can also help overcome a less than optimal ground system.

The DX Engineering Radial Plate is meant for those of you who want an easy, neat and effective way to connect those essential radial wires and the coax to the 30 meter vertical antenna for the lowest takeoff angle and strongest signals.

A DX Engineering Tilt Base means NO more climbing ladders to tune your 1/4 wave vertical antenna! One person can easily walk down the antenna to tune or make repairs. Simply lift the antenna, tilt to the side and walk it down. After the antenna is up, you tighten the bolts to the plate to keep it in place. Conveniently mounts to the same mast that you use for the antenna and radial plate.
