Here is how it works: The radial wires prevent the ground from acting like a big RF sponge. You have heard all about ground losses. Radials counteract that, so more are better! With the feedline properly terminated at the radial system, the antenna will perform with improved pattern and lower noise, too! Your radial wire attachment is made easier and efficient with our Radial Plate. The Bulk Radial Wire Kit allows you to cut and install each radial as long as it can be, to fill your antenna space with radials, placed like spokes of a wheel for maximum signal benefit. Radial wires do not need to be resonant lengths on the ground. Many radials, even if they are short, are better than few long ones. Please, do not put your antenna on a metal fence. They are poor RF conductors, do not prevent ground losses, and they gather noise and put it right into your radio! Use a real radial system to make your HF antenna really play!

You can stay off the ladder using our Tilt Base for easy antenna tuning during installation. Plus it offers "tilted-up-only-when-operating" stealth or just an easy way to stow the antenna for approaching bad weather. Antenna installation and tuning is breeze with the Tilt Base.

Both accessories, the DX Engineering Radial Plate and Tilt Base are attached to your antenna mounting pipe or tube with our adjustable Stainless Steel V-Clamps. Any steel (NOT aluminum) pipe or tubing you use must be between 1 and 2 in. for the provided clamps. The mounting pipe may be set in concrete, since your system will be efficiently using many wire radials, instead of a pipe in the dirt that would lose a lot of your RF.

Very Happy with the 6BTV antenna!

I followed DX Engineering's detailed install instructions to the letter and I have been very happy with this antenna. I get good signal reports from the East coast on 20, 30, 40, and 80 meters and receive has been excellent! Band conditions have not been good for 10 and 15 meters so can't comment. DX is great to France, Japan, etc. Tuning was a challenge but with an antenna analyzer and patience I got all bands tuned for the CW sections with very acceptable SWR. I can work the SSB sections with the help of a tuner. The radial plate is a must-have IMO. I put down (60) 33-foot radials per DX Engineering recommendation. My QTH is desert dirt and the radials overcome any power loss. And the tilt-base is also a must-have.
