Overview
Monitor Sensors Power and SWR Meters offer groundbreaking features in a device that will easily fit into any high-powered station or feel right at home in your backpack for QRP operation. One thing is certain, every station should have a way to accurately measure SWR and power output of their rig. Monitor Sensors, an Australian company, has taken Power and SWR meter design to the next level by creating a device that will accurately read RF power down to 10mW up to 2,000 W and will measure SWR at power levels as low as 50mW. Its small form factor and sturdy, simple design make the Power and SWR Meter easy to use, featuring a backlit 2-1/2 by 5/8 inch LCD display and a single multi-function button on the front. The back panel is straightforward with two UHF female SO-239 connectors for RF-in and RF-out, a 2.1mm 12 VDC Power Jack and a two-pin connector with Solid State opto-isolated contacts for high SWR alarm or amplifier keying line interrupt. Both open or close alarm states and the SWR alarm thresholds are configured via the easy-to-navigate menu. A DC power lead and high SWR alarm plug are included.
During normal operation, the Power and SWR Meter will display power and SWR in digital readout mode and will automatically sense and display the band in use while transmitting. Briefly depressing the multi-function button on the front panel will change the display to show both a digital power and SWR display along with a bar graph SWR display which is more suited for adjusting a manual antenna tuner. Other menu functions that are easily available via the single multi-function button include screen brightness, high SWR alarm, SWR alarm contact state, auto reset and SWR alarm threshold. A simple long press on the button will change the menu item’s value.
A unique function built into the Power and SWR meter is the ability to change the backlight color of the LCD display in relation to current SWR readings. When SWR is at or below 1.5:1, the display backlight is light blue. Should SWR rise above 1.5:1, the backlight color will change to a light pink color. Should SWR readings reach 3.00:1, the backlight will change to bright red and the backlight will change to dark blue if you exceed the power rating of the meter letting you know to reduce power to prevent damage to your meter. Another unique feature is that the Power and SWR meters display will flash red if you’re picking up strong signals, which can indicate possible dangerous receive levels from nearby transmitters or nearby lightning strikes.
The Monitor Sensors Power and SWR Meters are designed to automatically power on when 12 VDC is supplied to the device, if your transceiver is equipped with a 12 VDC accessory port, it can be used to turn on the Power and SWR Meter when your transceiver is powered on and conversely it will turn off when your transceiver is powered down. A built-in internal series diode will protect against an inadvertent reverse voltage connection.
