Overview

Chameleon Antenna URT-1 Remote Antenna Tuners

Chameleon Antenna URT-1 Remote Antenna Tuners are versatile remote outdoor tuners compatible with almost any type of antenna and any brand or model of transceiver. It can be used with both coaxial cable and wire-fed antennas. This wide-range tuner can match wire antennas, such as vertical, random wire, or long wire antennas, as well as coaxial-fed antennas like Inverted "V" or dipole antennas. The CHA-URT1 does not require a transceiver-specific control cable, making it compatible with any transceiver.

The CHA-URT1 covers frequencies from 1.8 to 54.0 MHz and has 16,000 memories for quick recall and tuning with previously used settings. It can match any antenna with an impedance of 5 to 1,500 Ohms within seconds and can handle up to 125W SSB Phone and CW, 100W SSB Phone and CW on 50 MHz, and 60W for all other modes (see specifications). The CHA URT1 consists of two units: a Coupler Unit and a Tuner Unit. Housed in a rugged weatherproof case, the Tuner Unit is designed for permanent outdoor installation and contains the antenna matching network and controller. Additionally, the Tuner Unit is typically installed outside at or near the antenna feed point, minimizing loss due to high SWR on the feedline.

The Coupler Unit, which contains the operator controls and status indicators, uses a bias-T circuit to send power and control signals to the remote Tuner Unit over the connecting coaxial cable, eliminating the need for a separate transceiver-specific control cable. The Coupler Unit is not weatherproof and must be installed indoors near the operator and transceiver.

CHA-URT-1 antenna tuners use latching relays. Once the tuner is tuned, the relay's latch and power is turned off, which saves on battery drain. The tuned frequency will be stored in memory. When changing frequency or bands, it’s necessary to apply power and energize the tuning process again. If the frequency is stored in memory, the tuning process is quick!
