Overview
Four-Band Off Center Fed High Power Dipole Kit
The DXE-OCF-HP40 high power capable, Off Center Fed dipole (OCF) wire antenna kit uses two different lengths of antenna wire (dipole legs) to achieve operation on the 40, 20, 15 and 10 meter bands. A slightly elevated SWR is the trade-off for a single wire antenna that covers multiple bands efficiently. On most bands, the internal tuner in modern transceivers will match the antenna feedline when the SWR is 3:1 or less. On frequencies where the SWR is above 3:1 SWR, an ATU external to the rig may be needed. This DX Engineering Off Center Fed Dipole is designed to be rugged yet lightweight, and handles 1,500 watts SSB and CW.
This DXE-OCF-HP40 kit includes:
Two lengths of premium 14 gauge relaxed PVC antenna wire (59 ft. and 14 ft.), each with a ring terminal soldered on one end for connection to the balun;
One DXE-MC20-C4-1 DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 4:1 Dual Core Balun;
The DXE-WA-BMB Dipole Center Insulator Mounting Bracket for Maxi-Core® Balun including End Insulators;
Stainless Steel hardware.
The Balun Mounting Bracket and End Insulators are made from a super high-strength UV resistant black poly-resin compound. They feature an exclusive serpentine wire-weave grip for insulated antenna wire. This method of threading the wire provides a grip strong enough to permanently support the antenna wires without soldering, which allows fast and easy field adjustments of antenna length for tuning. The DXE-MC20-C4-1 Balun features separate transformer and choke cores for the best all-band feedpoint isolation performance and has an downward facing SO-239 connector for your 50-ohm coaxial cable. Add supports, coax and rope to your order for a complete multi-band antenna installation.
NOTE: The SSB and CW power rating is up to legal limit of 1.5 kW at less than 3:1 SWR when using the included DX Engineering DXE-MC20-4-1 Maxi-Core® 20 Balun. As with any antenna, care should be taken when operating the digital modes such as FT4 and FT8. These continuous high modulation modes cause overheating of antenna, balun, tuner and transceiver components at full power. Reduce power to 25% of listed or legal ratings (375W maximum) when using the FT4, FT8, RTTY and other high modulation modes.
The OCF dipole antenna should be supported as an inverted-vee with the feedpoint as high as possible (minimum 25 ft.) and the entire antenna as far from other structures as possible. The ends of the wire elements are actually the most sensitive part of the antenna and the long end should be out of reach, at least 8 ft. above the ground. Any objects, tree limbs, foliage, and metal in particular, within the near-field can affect the impedance and radiation pattern of the antenna.
