Overview
DX Engineering Water Proofing Kit DXE-WK-PRO
Reliable water proofing is important to protect equipment and cables from damage caused by moisture penetration. The DXE-WK-PRO Water Proofing Kit is one option to help ensure your radio cabling and surge suppression system is protected from moisture damage. The following describes the DXE-WK-PRO Water Proofing Kit as being used with lightning protectors as an example, but this kit may also be used on other items that may require water proofing as well.
Most lightning protectors are not water proof. The DXE-WK-PRO Water Proofing Kit is used to fully encase a lightning protector and the connectors that are in an environment that would allow moisture to accumulate. The DXE-WK-PRO Water Proofing Kit is used to prevent moisture from penetrating the lightning protector.
Included in the DXE-WK-PRO Water Proofing Kit are five rolls of Scotch® Super 88 Vinyl Electrical Tape, 3/4 in. wide by 66 feet long. The single piece roll of Weather Proofing Material is 3 in. wide by 6 ft. long. The weather proofing material may be cut into smaller pieces as needed. The weather proofing material is a non-conductive, black, tacky product that does not harden or crack and is reusable. The temperature range for this material is -65° F to +180° F. Large protectors or coaxial connectors being protected may require more than one DXE-WK-PRO kit.
When applying the DXE-WK-PRO, first use one layer of the Scotch® Super 88 Vinyl Electrical Tape over the connectors and threaded areas of the lightning protector or coax connectors. Peel a suitable length of the tacky sealing material off of the paper backing. Cover all exposed area using the weather proofing material. You can overlap pieces slightly and squeeze or press the weather proofing material onto itself for a complete waterproof seal. When the tacky material is all in place, add one layer of the Scotch® Super 88 Vinyl Electrical Tape. Multiple layers of the Super 88 are normally used on coaxial connectors to ensure long lasting results.
The DXE-WK-PRO Water Proofing Kit may also be used to seal cable entrances if the gaps are minimal.
To remove the weather proofing, remove the vinyl tape, peel back the tacky material and then remove the initial layer of electrical tape. This is accomplished easier when the surrounding temperature is warm. The tacky material may be pressed into a single layer and reused as long as there is no dirt or other contamination present.
