Overview
ELAD FDM-DUO-R SDR Receivers
ELAD FDM-DUO-R SDR Receivers showcase ELAD's renowned sleek Italian design and cutting-edge technology. Following the great success of the FDM-DUO transceiver, ELAD has introduced the FDM-DUO-R receiver. The FDM-DUO-R is a shortwave receiver that utilizes state-of-the-art SDR technology that can be operated like a traditional radio. It includes familiar controls such as a large VFO knob, dials for volume and filters, and pushbuttons for frequently used settings, making it as user-friendly as a classic receiver. Its advanced internal components, including a fast AD converter and powerful digital processing capabilities, ensure excellent reception, like the FDM-S2 and FDM-DUO.
One notable innovation of the FDM-DUO-R is its 10 slots for pre-selector boards, which users can populate as needed. ELAD offers various high-pass and band-pass filters to suppress nearby medium wave radio stations. Band-pass filters are available for amateur radio bands, enhancing large signal handling capabilities, making it suitable for contest stations. For even greater flexibility, users can design their own filters using two empty boards. The receiver's design, which includes two antenna inputs, attenuators, a standard 54MHz low pass filter, and switchable pre-selector positions, offers numerous possibilities for individual tuning.
The FDM-DUO-R covers a receive frequency range from 9 kHz to 54 MHz. The two antenna inputs are selected by programmable band edges, ensuring the correct antenna and filter module are used based on the frequency. A TCXO provides good frequency stability, with the oscillator's side band noise being very low at -130 to -136dBc, resulting in a low noise floor and excellent sensitivity. An external 10 MHz precision clock reference can also be used as the master clock.
The FDM-DUO-R can be used with or without a computer. Without a computer, it is an excellent companion for the demanding SWL, even when portable. When used with a computer, it offers state-of-the-art SDR capabilities such as a waterfall display, decoding, recording, and more. The supplied FDM-SW2 software allows the operation of up to four receivers simultaneously. The manufacturer also provides an "ExtIO" DLL program for use with other software like SDR#, HDSDR, and SDR-Radio. Depending on whether the FDM-DUO-R is used with or without a computer, different operating modes are available: without a computer, it supports USB, LSB, CW, AM, and FM; with a computer, it additionally supports WFM and DRM. DRM is available with the software supplied, requiring no complicated installation of additional software.
Additional hardware features of the FDM-DUO-R are on par with professional radios. It includes a precision clock input, a USB CAT interface for remote control with the right software, and a fully documented CAT protocol. A "Mute" input stops the receiver when a nearby transmitter is keyed, allowing seamless integration into an existing amateur radio station. The 9-pin extension port is compatible with existing ELAD extension boards. Connections for headphones and line out are provided. The receiver requires a 13.8VDC power supply, with a maximum current intake of approximately 500mA.
NOTE: The frequency range covers VHF from 76–108 and 136–160 MHz, like the FDM-S2. A special filter is required to use the VHF ranges, which is currently in preparation by the manufacturer, with no precise shipping date specified.
