Overview

HI-Z Antennas HIZ-PC-8PRO Phasing Combiner for 8 Circle Arrays

Available for a limited time, the Hi-Z PC-8PRO is the primary component of a Hi-Z Eight Element Receiving Antenna Array, designed for HF low band reception. It offers signal-to-noise performance equal to or better than staggered phased Beverage wire pairs or Reversible Beverages and requires significantly less land area.

  • Phasing Combiner (HIZ-PC-8PRO):

    • Central component of the Hi-Z 8 Circle Eight Element Receiving Antenna.

    • Optimized for 160, 80, 60, and 40 meter bands, with coverage up to 30 MHz.

    • Enables cardioid directional reception with deep reverse null.

    • Can electronically rotate reception pattern to eight directions.

  • Antenna Elements:

    • Requires eight 8.5-ft. Receive Short Element Active Verticals (DXE-RSEAV-1).

    • Mounted on ground rods in a clear area.

    • Spaced 45° apart on an 85-ft. diameter circle (for 160–40M) or 113-ft. diameter (for 160 & 80M only).

    • Alternative setup: 6–24 ft. verticals with DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Units.

  • Performance:

    • Achieves up to 12 dB RDF (Receiving Directivity Factor) and 30 dB front-to-back ratio.

    • Performance depends on layout size, signal frequency, wave arrival angle, and delay cable values.

  • Installation Notes:

    • Elements are placed on an 85 ft. diameter circle at cardinal and ordinal compass bearings (N, NE, E, SE, etc.), but custom alignments are possible.

    • Must be mounted close to ground level, not elevated.

    • Can be installed on sloping ground unless slope exceeds element height.

    • Poor soil may require 4–8 wire radials per element.

  • Cabling:

    • Uses low-cost 75-ohm coaxial cable for feedlines and delay lines.

    • Control cables connect to a directional control console at the station.

  • Required Components for a complete Hi-Z 8 Circle Array Setup:

    • 1 × HIZ-PC-8PRO Phasing Combiner

    • 1 each DXE-RSEAV-8 Receive Short Element Active Verticals (Set of 8 DXE-RSEAV-1) OR 8 each DXE-AVA-3 Active Element Amps & 8 each user supplied 6-24 ft. insulated base elements (such as DXE-AL-24)

    • 8 each 4 ft. x .52 in. min. Ground rods

    • 1 x HIZ-DL-4-60-85S Short Delay Cable for 85 ft. Diameter 8 Circle Array

    • 1 x HIZ-DL-4-60-85L Long Delay Cable for 85 ft. Diameter 8 Circle Array

    • 1 × HIZ-MDC-8PRO Manual Directional Control Console (or DXE-DSC-8PRO Directional Switch Control Console, coming soon)

    • DXE-RG6UFQ 75 ohm Coaxial Cable and connectors to connect the elements to the HIZ-PC-8PRO and for the long station feedline

    • CEW-5726-CL 6-Conductor Control Cable

IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE

Do not select the location for a receive antenna based on perceived coaxial cable loss or control cable costs.

For best low-noise performance and clean array patterns, low-band receive antennas must be installed as far away as possible—ideally hundreds of feet—from any nearby structures, towers, transmit antennas, metal buildings, large trees, or metal fences. They can introduce unwanted noise and will distort signal patterns.

Use RG6U quad-shield coaxial cable, which offers low signal loss at low HF frequencies. This type of cable performs well over long distances, so coax length is not a limiting factor, and an additional preamp is usually unnecessary at the array.

To ensure reliable operation of active elements and relays in the array, install a high-quality control cable with a water-resistant jacket. For longer runs, select a cable with larger conductors to prevent voltage drop and maintain stable power delivery to all components.

Enjoy the immeasurable rewards of improved reception for years to come with a properly located and cabled array. See the Hi-Z Antennas PC-8PRO Phasing Controller Instructions for details and requirements for the installation of this H-Z Antennas 8 Circe Array.
