Overview

Long Island CW Club Good Vibrations Morse Code (CW) Haptic Assist Device

A Handheld CW Learning and Accessibility Aid for Hearing-Impaired Operators

The Long Island CW Club (LICW) Good Vibrations Morse Code (CW) Haptic Assist Device is an innovative accessory designed to help hearing-impaired operators experience and decode Morse code through vibration and visual feedback.

Developed through the dedication and hard work of a Long Island CW Club committee, the original haptic prototype was further refined and improved by Bob WO6W, resulting in a patented and highly effective Morse code assist device. Originally created to support LICW members with hearing challenges, the Good Vibrations device is now available to the general Amateur Radio community.

While specifically designed for hearing-impaired operators, this unique learning tool can also benefit anyone interested in improving their CW proficiency. By engaging the sense of touch in addition to sight and hearing, users can develop alternative sensory pathways that may enhance Morse code recognition and accelerate the learning process. The additional tactile and visual feedback can help reinforce character recognition, improve copy accuracy, and make it easier to discern weak or challenging signals during everyday CW operation.

How It Works

Audio from a radio, computer, or other CW source is fed into the Good Vibrations device. The unit converts incoming Morse code tones into both tactile vibrations and visual light signals, allowing operators to copy CW using:

  • Traditional audio

  • Vibrational (haptic) feedback

  • Visual light indications

  • Or any combination of the three

Whether you're overcoming hearing limitations or simply exploring a new way to learn and copy Morse code, the LICW Good Vibrations Haptic Assist Device offers an innovative and engaging approach to CW operation.
