M2 Antennas Solid Center Cross Booms

M2 Antennas Solid Center Cross Booms, model CB60, also known as FGCB60 or FCB60, are used for critical VHF/UHF/SHF satellite uplink-downlink systems, EME (moon bounce) and long range terrestrial operations. These Cross Booms feature a super strong 1.625 in. solid aluminum rod center section with two 2 in. outside diameter, 60 in. long, 1/4 in. thick-wall fiberglass tubing sections, to secure large systems or arrays. Built for years of slip free service, Solid Center Cross Booms eliminate the worry of crushing, cracking or splintering the center portion of an all fiberglass cross boom.

One of the uses for these extra heavy duty solid center 11 ft. long cross booms are in an azimuth-elevation rotator (AZ-EL). Two medium or long boom Yagi antennas of two different VHF/UHF bands are mounted at each end of the cross boom, as required for satellite uplink and downlink operations. These cross booms are also used for horizontally stacking a phased pair of 2 meter cross polarized Yagi antennas for all-mode terrestrial operations including on FM and SSB/CW, as well as for a pair of circularly polarized Yagi beams for EME. These two applications require a non-metallic cross boom mounted horizontally on a rotating mast or in the AZ-EL rotator, respectively. The ultimate satellite, EME or terrestrial VHF/UHF antenna system uses two of these cross booms mounted vertically at the ends of an 11 ft. metallic cross boom. This type of four cross or circularly polarized Yagi array, horizontally and vertically stacked, provides incredible gain and front-to-back performance, effectively quadrupling your effective radiated power (ERP) and dramatically increasing your reception capabilities.
