Palstar AT5K 3500 Watt Antenna Tuners

American-made Palstar AT5K 3500 Watt Antenna Tuners are unique high-power tuners, built in the American ham radio tradition. These tuners have been nick-named the "Rock Crusher" and are fast becoming the tuner of choice among Amateurs who demand the best and most robust antenna tuner on the market.

One of the all-time great antenna tuners, the predecessor model AT4K, helped build the Palstar reputation for high quality and "Built-Like-A-Tank" durability. Unwilling to rest on their laurels, Palstar decided they could go one better.

Their AT5K 3500 Watt Antenna Tuners take power handling to the next level, coming in with an impressive rating of 3,500 watts single tone continuous with low losses—and 5,000 watts PEP performance at certain impedance ranges. AT5K tuners offer a wide impedance tuning range from 1.8 through 22 MHz, and a slightly limited impedance tuning range from 22 to 29.5 MHz.

Inside each the AT5K tuners you'll find massive custom large-plate (600 pF) variable capacitors rated at 6 kV. This high capacitance means unsurpassed performance on 160 meters, while specially designed non-metallic end plates allow a minimum capacitance of only 23 pF for 10 meter tuning—which is unusually low for a variable capacitor this large. Equally massive is the 35 uH, 10 ampere, 7 kV, ceramic-body inductor, which is wound with 10-gauge plated copper wire with silver-plated wheel shaft and contact wheel.

Palstar AT5K tuners provide balanced OUTPUT with a high power 5 kW PTFE cable balun at the INPUT of the tuner circuit for excellent balanced feed antenna operation. When the network is properly tuned, a 50 ohm impedance will be presented to the input and output of the balun for maximum efficiency. Designed to handle both balanced line feeds and unbalanced coax feedlines, AT5K tuners feature a front panel switch to select between feed types. Two coaxial and one bypass unbalanced outputs are also handled by the extra heavy-duty ceramic 6-position 7 kV, 10 ampere RF switch assembly.

AT5K tuners also feature the Active Peak and Peak Hold technology used in their popular PM2000A Wattmeter. The frequency-compensated, lighted, dual-movement SWR/wattmeter may be switched between 300 watt and 3,000 watt scales for peak or average power readings.
