With a shorter collapsed length and a full extra 6 inches of extended height over traditional 17' whips, the [Z]-17CSS provides enhanced tuning flexibility when external factors—like ground conditions, coil loading, or terrain—call for just a bit more whip.

When paired with the Scout base, the Z-17CSS is resonant as a ¼-wave vertical from 20 through 6 meters. It can also be loaded for 40 meters using the Scout 4017 coil, Recon 40, or Ranger 80 systems—making it a highly versatile whip for portable HF operation. The [Z]-17CSS uses a riveted base rather than a cross pin—an upgrade that ensures the internal wall of the tubing is tightly clamped to the threaded base for excellent mechanical strength and consistent electrical contact.
