Overview
VA6AM Engineering HF Multiplexers
VA6AM Engineering HF Multiplexers are transmit and receive capable Diplexers and Triplexers that are sophisticated RF filtering splitter/combiners. Always used along with monoband HF Band-Pass Filters, they allow multi-transceiver stations to share a single multi-band antenna, simplifying multi-op antenna systems. Supplied with standard UHF Female/SO-239 connectors, HF transmit multiplexers are great for Field Day, contesting and multi-op DXing. Use them anytime you need to operate multiple rigs on one multi-band antenna! Insertion loss is negligible; typically, less than 0.2 dB in band! VA6AM Engineering Diplexers and Triplexers provide good levels of isolation between band ports. The multiplexer's main purpose is to provide 50-ohm SO-239 connections for multiple transceivers and balance the impedances for a single 50-ohm feedline to a multi-band antenna. Alternatively, VA6AM Engineering Diplexers and Triplexers can be used to combine multiple low-SWR resonant antennas into a switchless multiband system for a single transceiver.
VA6AM Engineering HF Multiplexers are available in different multi-band combinations and they are intended to be used along with VA6AM Engineering HF Band-Pass Filters, also available from DX Engineering. Each band port of the multiplexer requires one VA6AM Engineering Band-Pass Filter to provide the additional isolation that allows multiple transceiver setups to function properly. In the multi-transceiver contest station, each “monoband” transceiver has the appropriate HF Band-Pass Filter in-line with the appropriate Triplexer or Diplexer band port input. The 50 ohm Mix port is connected to a multi-band beam, for example. Each transceiver can operate simultaneously with up to 80 dB of isolation, unhindered by the signals from the other connected radios operating on the other bands on the same antenna!
IMPORTANT: VA6AM Engineering HF Multiplexers, by themselves, cannot provide the necessary isolation. Each transceiver must also be connected through a transmit bandpass filter for the proper band. The nature of a complete system of band pass filters and the multiplexer device is to isolate your transceivers and keep them from interfering with each other. They also reduce out of band noise, thereby improving each transceiver's noise floor. Chosen by major multi-multi contest stations around the world, they provide the clear benefit of a dramatically lower noise floor for enhanced single-band weak signal reception desired for top-notch Contesting and Field Day operations.
