EAntenna HEX6B Six Band Hexbeam Antenna

EAntenna HEX6B Six Band Hexbeam is a directional HF antenna for the six Amateur bands 20, 17, 15, 12, 10 and 6 meters. This design follows the ideas of G3TXQ Steve Hunt, the originator of the Broadband version of the Hex Beam antenna. However, this mechanical construction is a version refined by EAntenna with their long-standing antenna engineering experience. The result is an efficient, lightweight portable antenna for the high HF DX bands, which is ideal for use for DXpeditions and vacations. An installation at 20 ft. above the ground can work quite well, but a tower-mounted Hexbeam at a height of 35 to 60 ft. is known to perform as intended and produce excellent DX results. The HEX6B works as two element beam on each band. Ready-to-use wires and ropes are attached to the fiberglass struts and due to the mechanical tension of the struts, the beam is stretched to its fixed size all the time, so there is no sag on the wires. The radiator dipoles are connected to the vertical center support, with each band wire element attaching with screw clamps. The center support is designed as a coaxial transformer and balun, providing a particularly good match on each band, with one feedline for all six bands. The HEX6B forward gain is approximately 3dBD or better, the front/back ratio is between 13 and 22dB. SWR is 1.5:1 or better on all bands except 10m, where SWR is 2:1 or better. Each band can be used in full bandwidth without a tuner. The maximum allowed power is 5 kW. The fiberglass tubes are double coated against UV radiation. The setup of the HEX6B six band beam is simple and can be done by one person in about 30 minutes. All ropes and wires are ready, cut to length, so no tuning is required. Due to the low weight of only 18.7 lbs. (8.2 kg) this hex beam can be installed on a light aluminum push-up mast. Rotation is either done with a small rotator or by hand. The HEX6B mast clamp accommodates poles with a Diameter from 1.10 -2.05 in. (28-52mm).

NOTE: Manuals are normally supplied bilingual. If your manual lacks an English section, contact DX Engineering for an English version. IMPORTANT: EAntenna VHF and UHF Loop Fed Antennas are intended to be mounted horizontally for SSB and CW operation which is at the lower frequency end of the bands, NOT on FM. For example, the 2 meter LFA should be mounted horizontally and is tuned for use on 144-146 MHz and is not intended for FM use on 146-148 MHz. Additionally, the DK7ZB design EAntenna dual-band beams for 2 meters and 70 cm cover only 144-146 MHz and 420-440 MHz, the same European frequency range, and so they are not suitable for FM use in North America. EAntenna Cross Polarized LFA beams have both horizontal and vertical elements with only 144.0 - 144.5 MHz coverage designed specifically for EME or satellite enthusiasts.

EAntenna Sloper Antennas

The EAntenna Slopers are shortened with a coil to reduce the antenna length, but behave like quarter-wave sloper antennas. Like any Sloper antenna, it is directional with a low angle for excellent long range DX results. Directivity is away from the supporting metal mast or tower, toward the lower end of the sloper. If a non-metallic vertical support is used for the sloper, an additional vertical wire counterpoise is required. The antenna wire is 2mm (approx. 12 AWG) with UV-resistant insulation for durability. This antenna does not include a balun, but use with a feedline choke, line isolator, or coax bead choke is recommended to achieve the desired results. These antennas are rated for 2 kW CW. The EAntenna EASLP160S achieves a considerable 2:1 SWR bandwidth of 75 kHz. The EAntenna EASLP80S achieves a respectable 2:1 SWR bandwidth of 210 kHz. The assembly and deployment of this antenna is simple. The feedpoint of the antenna is attached to the mast or tower at the minimum height listed below, or higher, if possible, for better results. If supported by a tree, this antenna requires a grounded vertical wire counterpoise, in addition to the coax feedline. With antenna support rope, extend the insulated end to a support a minimum of 10 ft. above the ground. This antenna is preset to the bottom of the band. Adjust to higher frequencies within the band with 5 cm (2 in.) cuts for gradual changes while using an antenna analyzer. In just 5 minutes you can prune the antenna to cover the desired portion of the band. Physical Characteristics of the EAntenna Slopers: * EASLP160 Total Length: 17.7m (58.0 ft.); Minimum Height: 12.7m (41.6 ft.) * EASLP80 Total Length: 11.0m (36.0 ft.); Minimum Height: 8.0m (26.2 ft.)
