DX Engineering RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers

DX Engineering RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers are newly designed versions of the RPA-1 with internal slots for accessory modules. They accommodate the addition of the one optional plug-in module, such as the 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Module, or the Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module, or the DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module. DXE-RPA-2 preamps have very low internal noise and are optimized for the 300 kHz to 35 MHz range. They help you hear the weakest signals without artificially raising the noise. Meticulous craftsmanship and durable, robust components allow these preamplifiers to withstand high signal levels while providing superior dynamic range and third-order intercept performance that equals or exceeds most receiver and transceiver front-ends. RPA-2 Receive Preamplifiers have key features added, as requested by our tech-oriented customers and enthusiasts: - Internal slot accommodates the optional 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Module to accomplish typical receive antenna feedline to equipment transitions without losses -Also allows direct connection to 50 ohm receive antenna feedline BNC connectors with no transformer required - Internal slot for DXE-RG5000HD-PM Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module – Front-end protection for the RPA-2 - Secure BNC female connectors and receive-system friendly F female connectors remain; both prevent accidental connection to transmitting devices with UHF connectors - A green LED indicates when DC power is present and the preamplifier circuit is engaged. - An ingenious positive-capture threaded-sleeve 2.1 mm power connector that ensures the DC power cannot be accidentally disconnected from the RPA-2. - Alternatively, a simple internal jumper change allows the RPA-2 to be powered by DC on the feedline While many other common preamplifiers suffer from harmonic distortion, RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers include our exclusive, advanced push-pull design that eliminates harmonic distortion. Their high quiescent current increases their ability to handle strong signals without distortion or overload. These high performance devices must be powered with a well filtered and regulated DC power supply and will offer maximum performance at 12 to 18 Vdc input. Please do not use a cheap wall transformer or noisy switching wall-wart to power these top-of-the-line preamplifiers. Indoor installation at the back of the radio is recommended for RPA-2. For those who want to place them in an enclosure at a receive antenna system, a handy internal jumper allows these new units to be powered on the coaxial cable. DX Engineering Bulk Radial Wire Kits

DX Engineering Bulk Radial Wire Kits will help you achieve optimal performance with a ground-mounted vertical and allow you to install as many radials as possible. These PVC-insulated stranded-copper radial wires are UV-resistant and roll out easily, unlike the wire that's commonly available at "big box" stores. Any type of ground-mounted vertical antenna—an Inverted L for instance—can usually benefit from the addition of a radial system. The increase in field currents provided by radials improves efficiency and antenna Q. Compared to bare wire, DX Engineering Bulk Radial Wire Kits will last much longer when exposed to the elements. These kits include either steel or biodegradable resin radial wire staples for holding down the radials until grass grows over them. The kits work extremely well with DX Engineering Radial Plates (DXE-RADP-3) to create a complete radial system. Biodegradable staples allow easy installation of radial wires and will degrade and disappear in about a year when they are no longer needed, making them environmentally friendly! Biodegradable staples are intended for softer ground, where they may be pushed or lightly tapped into the ground with a tool head. Since they are a resin material, the staples are subject to breaking in rocky or hard soil. They're not intended to be hammered in; if hammering is required for installation, you should use the steel wire staples. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. For easy installation of antenna radials, DX Engineering Bulk Radial Wire Kits provide the wire, ring terminals and lawn staples. Suggested as a station upgrade product; make more contacts to worldwide DX stations and DXpeditions.

DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas

DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas (the RSEAV Antennas) offer excellent low noise radio frequency reception from 40 kHz to 30 MHz. Better receiving performance than full-size transmit antennas and other active makes the DXE-RSEAV-1 the best choice on the market for VLF through HF reception, including long-distance AM broadcast, Medium Wave and Shortwave (SWL), and new low-frequency Amateur bands, DXing, contesting, and everyday HF operations. Click on a listed product title and Scroll Down to see additional important information. A complete product description appears below the Specifications Overview. Instruction manual links appear in the Documentation section. The sleek and stealthy DXE-RSEAV-1 includes a high-quality three-section 8.5 ft. (2.6m) aluminum tubing whip, insulated mounting plate and the completely new DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit. Its state-of-the-art broadband operational amplifier design works as a high-impedance buffer between the short antenna element and RG6U 75-ohm coax. When installed in the appropriate location, RSEAV antennas provide significantly better weak signal reception than other active receive antennas and full-size transmit-capable antennas, with substantially reduced noise and lower spurious signal interference. Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. They are sold individually (DXE-RSEAV-1), or with a bias tee (DXE-RSEAV-1FVI) and DXE-RSEAV-1 Receive Short Element Active Verticals set a new standard for "Active Receive Vertical Antennas" replacing legacy DXE-ARAV-3, ARAV-2, ARAV-1 and AL-24 versions. Use multiple DXE-RSEAV-1 for all 4 and 8 element DX Engineering Receive Arrays – all 3, 4 and 8 element Hi-Z Antennas Arrays – and 2 element receive arrays with DXE-NCC-2 and NCC-1 Variable Phasing Controllers. The DXE-RSEAV-1 is designed to be a very low-gain, low-noise antenna for greatly improved signal-to-noise performance over a very wide range of frequencies. In a proper single or multi-element array installation, this Receive Vertical antenna will attenuate high-angle skywave signals, which is the goal for a low band DXing receive antenna. Low-angle, long-range DX signals are easier to copy with a good radio and DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace or upgrade all the elements in the array with identical, fully compatible DXE-RSEAV-1 antennas or DXE-AVA-3 units.

DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems

DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems basically allow two Beverage antennas to be switched to receive in opposite directions while sharing the same physical space. DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems antennas provide two opposite "end-fire" directional patterns with excellent front-to-rear directivity and superior signal-to-noise ratio as compared to transmitting antennas. Dramatically improved long distance weak signal results may be achieved on MW and the 160, 80 and 40 meter bands, including shortwave bands, with receive-only Beverage antennas using wires that are typically only 350 to 800 feet long, depending upon the band of interest. The two-direction DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems offer a space and installation advantage because two opposite single-wire Beverage antennas would require twice the length. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems are immune to the strong signal overload and core saturation common in multi-transmitter contesting environments and are used by winning contest stations and low-band DXers around the world. These Reversible Beverage antennas have two "F" connectors; one "Away" port for the default end-fire receiving pattern off the end of the wire, and one "Toward" port for the opposite direction. The standard configuration of these systems has the "Toward" port terminated (75-ohm termination included), so both antennas share a common feedline. Applying a negative 10 to 18V DC to the feedline switches the system between the two antenna ports for reception in opposite directions. For simultaneous reception from opposing directions, each of the two feedlines can be run to separate receivers, with the termination load not used. You can build a 4-direction receive antenna system with two DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems and one DX Engineering RLS-2 Two-Port Receiving Switch that also requires only one feedline! The optional DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Coupler, model DXE-FVC-1 is highly recommended to provide all of the required feedline voltage injection. Plus, the optional DXE-EC-4 BCD Control Console completes the system for four-direction switching right in the shack. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems are optimized to use our optional 450 ohm ladder line for the antenna element. We strongly recommend using that type of "window line" because the consistent spacing of the antenna wires will produce the best operational results. However, the RBS will work with any 300-600 ohm 2-wire line. For best feed line results, DX Engineering highly recommends using our high quality flooded or quad-shielded 75-ohm coax with F-type compression connectors to ensure a weatherproof installation. Additional features include: * Broad operating range, 0.2 to 30 MHz * Fully isolated grounds prevent common-made noise and unwanted signals * 75 ohm design enables the use of high quality, low cost cable and connectors * RF shielded housing used for isolation and improved life * Directional Switching Voltage: nominal 12V AC or negative 12V DC, feedline injected * Directional Switching Current: less than 80 mA * Antenna impedance: 300-600 ohm (450 ohm recommended) * Feedline impedance: 50-75 ohm (75 ohm recommended) * RBSA-1FP Feed Point unit dimensions: 5.5 in. width x 3.5 in. depth x 1.5 in. height * RBS-1RT Reflection Transformer unit dimensions: 2.125 in. width x 2.125 in. depth x 1.125 in. height Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. DX Engineering Tinned Copper Radial Wire Kits

DX Engineering Tinned Copper Radial Wire Kits include plentiful quantities of biodegradable staples and tinned crimp ring terminals that are easily soldered. Along with spools of the same wire as used by the most successful contest stations and DX enthusiasts for their ground-mounted vertical antennas, these kits will help your antenna system achieve optimal performance. The 16 AWG tinned solid copper wire in these kits provide an extremely cost effective solution for the high-count, full-size ground radial wire systems that are required for top-performing HF vertical antenna installations. Ground wire radials do not need to be any specific length because the earth detunes them. Fill your ground-mounted vertical space with radials that run out from the antenna feedpoint in all possible directions, as far as they can go, up to about one-quarter wavelength on the lowest frequency. Even radials that are all about one-eighth wavelength long on the lowest frequency band are just fine for multi-band verticals over reasonably conductive soils. Use longer radials on lossy soils with sand and rocks. In most cases, a greater number of short ground radials will provide greater efficiency and stronger signals than is achieved with a few long radials. DX Engineering Tinned Copper Radial Wire Kits are available in four sizes: Shorter spool kits, 500 ft. and 1,000 ft., are perfect for the single HF ground-mounted vertical. Longer spool kits, 2,500 ft. and 5,000 ft., are intended for 2-element Dual Vertical Arrays, 3-element ProStack Arrays, and 4-element Four Square Array Systems. Each kit has the appropriate number of biodegradable staples and tinned crimp ring terminals. Why is this wire the absolute best choice for any ground-mounted vertical antenna? Because, DX Engineering Tinned Copper Radial Wire will last much longer in a variety of soil conditions as compared to bare copper, copper coated steel or aluminum wires. Radials deployed with those other wire types actually corrode and degrade rather quickly. Unfortunately, they do so slowly enough that the operator does not easily perceive that degradation in terms of antenna system performance. With Tinned Copper wire, full radial system integrity is maintained for a greater number of years. Depending upon soil type, installations with DXE-TCRW16 will maintain vertical antenna performance for many, many years… and even decades. NOTE: To prevent accelerated corrosion and the possibility of noise, DO NOT use metal anchor pins (lawn staples) on Tinned Copper Radial Wire. These kits contain only the DXE-STPL-100BD Biodegradable Anchor Pins to hold down bare wire radials. Biodegradable staples allow easy installation of radial wires and will disperse in a couple years, after they are no longer needed, making them site friendly. Biodegradable staples work best in soft ground where they may be pushed or lightly tapped into the ground. Since they are a lacto-resin material they are subject to breaking in rocky or hard soil and are not intended to be hammered. DX Engineering Tinned Copper Radial Wire kits are the right choice for long lasting top-performance radial systems for your ground-mounted vertical antenna system.

DX Engineering Receive 8 Circle Array Controllers

DX Engineering RCA8C-1 Receive 8 Circle Array Controllers are the highly sophisticated switch controller relay units from the Eight Circle Array Systems--the receiving systems that use time delay phasing--rather than the conventional narrow-band, frequency-dependent phasing, to provide eight 45 degree spaced directional patterns. The RCA8C time delay phasing is directivity-optimized to produce wider and deeper rear nulls and a narrower main lobe. The result is that noise and undesirable signals are greatly reduced for a superior front-to-rear ratio (F/R). Better control of phase and currents provides a cleaner pattern with the Receive 8 Circle than is available with vertical antenna transmit arrays. DX Engineering Receive 8 Circle Array Controllers are designed to be used with eight identical vertical active or passive vertical elements, symmetrically spaced in a large circle, to provide switching for an 8-direction receiving antenna system. Passive elements will generally provide you with a monoband receiving system. Finally, these systems offer greater reliability in receiving applications. Receive Eight Circle Array Controllers use sealed relays sized for receiving applications with silver contacts to prevent oxidation and contamination. Most transmitting four-square switches use large open-frame relays where the contacts are exposed to the air, which can lead to contamination. Relays with brass contacts can oxidize, leading to poor conductivity. Receive Eight Circle Array controllers feature: * W8JI design * Operation from 100 kHz to 30 MHz * Excellent directivity for better signal-to noise ratio * Switching console provides eight 45 degree spaced directions * Less physical space and maintenance required than phased Beverage antennas * Low current DC powered control console allows system operation without AC power mains The optional DX Engineering Eight Circle Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antenna Package, DXE-RSEAV-8, offers excellent receiving performance from 100 kHz to 30 MHz, while using only a 8.5 ft. (2.6m) aluminum vertical antenna elements. A unique design makes the Receive Eight Circle Array System vastly superior to traditional active vertical antennas in both strong signal handling and feedline decoupling. This results in significantly better weak signal reception due to lower spurious signal interference and reduced noise. DX Engineering RCA8C Receive 8 Circle Array Controllers are the foundation of your Eight Circle Array!

DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas

DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas: Near Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS) is a propagation mode which uses high-angle radiation that sends signals almost straight up! They are then reflected back to Earth for very effective short to medium distance communications that works virtually every day and into the evening. NVIS dipoles are almost Omni-directional and their height requirement is for the feedpoint to be at only 15 feet above the ground! These 80 and 40 meter wire antennas work very well with their feedpoint at only 15 feet above the ground, supported by the included mast, or your own non-metallic support. The ropes tied to the wire dipole end-insulators are used as guys for the support mast, and are secured to the ground with four tent pegs. DXE-NVIS-8040S and the DXE-NVIS-8040 antenna kits are complete with everything required; the fiberglass mast (four, 4 ft. sections that extend to 15 ft.), a DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 1:1 Balun, model DXE-MC20-1-1T, a balun mounting kit, coax strain relief bracket, antenna wire, insulators, four tent pegs, rope, and a 100 ft. RG-8X coax assembly with PL-259s! The four legs of the antenna, each deployed 90 degrees apart, provide the mast guying. DXE-NVIS-8040SNM and the DXE-NVIS-8040NM antenna kits are exactly the same kits with everything except the 15 ft. fiberglass mast. Use your own non-metallic mast or hang the feedpoint 15 ft. above the ground from the limb of a tree. The DXE-NVIS-8040S and DXE-NVIS-8040SNM are shortened NVIS wire antenna kit version that features loading coils to make the 80 meter dipole legs the same length as the 40 meter dipole legs, 34 ft., so this antenna fits into a square area that is only about 50 ft. by 50 ft. The DXE-NVIS-8040 and DXE-NVIS-8040NM are full size, with 67 ft. wire dipole antenna legs for 80 meters and 34 ft. legs for 40 meters and it fits into a rectangular area approximately 100 ft. by 50 ft. NVIS rarely works at frequencies outside the range of 2 MHz to 10 MHz. The signal must penetrate the D layer of the ionosphere and bounce off the F layer. Signals on frequencies below 2 MHz will not penetrate the D layer; frequencies higher than 10 MHz will not bounce off the F layer at these sharp angles, they penetrate and continue out into space. Regular-height dipoles or vertical antennas have a lower take off angle and your signal may be heard three states away, but not in your own state due to the "skip zone." This skip zone is the area between the maximum ground wave distance and the shortest sky wave distance where no communications are possible. Depending on operating frequencies, antennas, their height above ground and propagation conditions, this skip zone can start at roughly 10 to 20 miles away and extend out to several hundred miles. NVIS mode of operation makes it ideal for in-state and next state communications during disasters or other emergency situations. The military has used NVIS techniques for decades to provide short haul communication with other units on the ground. This is why these antennas are ideal for round-table gatherings with regional ham friends on 40 and 80 meters, day to day and night after night. These antennas are easy to deploy and are great for camping, RVs, QRP, ARES, EMCOMM, State QSO Parties and Parks On The Air (POTA) and any other uses where short range HF operation on 80 or 40 meters is desirable. They are actually pretty stealthy, too! Due to their near vertical radiation, NVIS dipoles are almost Omni-directional. They even have a legal-limit power rating! Remember, Amateur Radio operators look to 80 and 40 meters for short skip NVIS operations. Order DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas and fill in the skip zone!
