DX Engineering RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers are newly designed versions of the RPA-1 with internal slots for accessory modules. They accommodate the addition of the one optional plug-in module, such as the 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Module, or the Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module, or the DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module. DXE-RPA-2 preamps have very low internal noise and are optimized for the 300 kHz to 35 MHz range. They help you hear the weakest signals without artificially raising the noise. Meticulous craftsmanship and durable, robust components allow these preamplifiers to withstand high signal levels while providing superior dynamic range and third-order intercept performance that equals or exceeds most receiver and transceiver front-ends. Their high quiescent current increases their ability to handle strong signals without distortion or overload. These high performance devices must be powered with a well filtered and regulated DC power supply and will offer maximum performance at 12 to 18 Vdc input. Please do not use a cheap wall transformer or noisy switching wall-wart to power these top-of-the-line preamplifiers. Indoor installation at the back of the radio is recommended for RPA-2. For those who want to place them in an enclosure at a receive antenna system, a handy internal jumper allows these new units to be powered on the coaxial cable. DX Engineering Portable Receive Preamplifier-Attenuator
DX Engineering Portable Receive Preamplifier-Attenuator DXE-NL-PRE-ATT-1 – A very handy device to use with your receiver; handheld, portable or base. This attractive, light-weight unit comes completely assembled and tested, and provides a nominal 30 dB gain across the frequency range from 100 kHz through 30 MHz. Powered by an internal 9 volt battery (not included), it features BNC connectors for RF Input and Output, easy to use slide switches and a 'power on' LED when the preamp is on. Attenuation is selected with switches for -10 dB or -20 dB and -30 dB with both. Plus, an AM Broadcast Band Rejection Filter can be switched in or out, as needed. This is our version, the DXE-Z10046B-PM High-Output Preamplifier with 23dB gain, which is virtually identical to its predecessor in specs and performance. DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10000 Buffer Amplifiers may be the products most often requested by radio experimenters and electronics enthusiasts. These are the very popular circuits, designed by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), that are crucial for adding a SDR receiver and panadapter display capabilities to a receiver or transceiver which lacks that feature. The Z10000 Buffer Amplifier's high-input impedance can safely tap the early-stage broadband Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal from inside your radio and feed the buffered and amplified low impedance IF signal to your external SDR receiver. It can then produce a spectrumscope - waterfall display pattern of the receiver signals on a compatible tablet or monitor and PC that is running the appropriate third party SDR software. DX Engineering offers two Clifton Labs Buffer Amplifier Kits to add an IF output SMA connector to the rear panel of your radio: * The DXE-Z10000U-KIT is the Universal Buffer Amplifier Kit that covers 50 kHz to 100 MHz. This kit is designed for those willing to do an internal modification, and will output the IF signal of virtually any receiver or transceiver that has an IF in that range. However, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT can be used as a buffer and low-gain preamp between any low level RF devices that operate in that range. As a buffer, this circuit provides over 90dB of reverse isolation to protect the IF stages of the radio from possible birdies on an SDR receiver input. So, even if your radio has an IF output connector, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT may be used externally, with a user-supplied shielded metal enclosure, to be certain to maintain proper radio operation. * The DXE-Z10000K2-KIT is the Buffer Amplifier Kit specifically tuned to the 4.915 MHz IF signal of the Elecraft K2 transceiver. It offers the same high reverse isolation, plus the added benefit of a tuned IF input with a narrower bandwidth of operation and a potentially a lower noise floor on the output. Both Buffer Amp kits contain the updated, completely assembled and tested DX Engineering Z10000C PC Board with a nominal 6.5 dB gain, retaining all the benefits of the reliable original Z10000B boards. Both kits include our finished printed circuit board, required coaxial cables assemblies with special connectors, insulating materials, and hardware—all for an easier installation than ever before!
