DX Engineering Glass Antenna Insulators
Sometimes the oldest stuff turns out to be the best. Our exclusive DX Engineering Glass Antenna Insulators hearken back to the earliest years of "wireless" transmissions. Because Irish ship builders of the day pronounced "double" as "dooble," these insulators were once known as "glass doobies" due to their tempered-glass material and double-ended form. Glass insulators offer the highest of electrical insulation properties, strength and resilience available in any insulator of its size. There will be no signal bleed off with these little glass wonders! DX Engineering's DXE-TGI-2 end insulators are 3.69 in. long with 1.125 in. diameter double ends. Each smoothed and rounded end has a 5/16 in. (0.3125 in.) hole that will accommodate many wire and rope sizes without chafing. Their tensile strength and resistance to arcing will withstand almost any wire-antenna use within the Amateur Radio service, domestic or abroad. Since these are end insulators, they are sold as a pair. These are not toy-like models or replica insulators; these are fully functional, high strength glass insulators with excellent RF properties! But, that is not to say that they aren't gorgeous and worthy of showing off! They certainly are perfect for display as a radio room decoration or as a living area conversation piece. Very smooth and pleasing to the touch, these are attractive glass insulators that make a fantastic gift for the ham who thought he had everything! Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. In this instance, some interesting information on "Glass Doobies." Bring back a bit of the essence of the Amateur Radio of yesteryear in your wire antenna construction. These glass insulators are actually quite striking in their appearance. DX Engineering Off Center Fed High Power Dipole Kits
DX Engineering Off Center Fed (OCF) dipole wire antenna kits use two different lengths of antenna wire (dipole legs) to achieve operation on the HF bands. A slightly elevated SWR is the trade-off for a single wire antenna that covers multiple bands efficiently. On most bands, the internal tuner in modern transceivers will match the antenna feedline when the SWR is 3:1 or less. On frequencies where the SWR is above 3:1 SWR, an ATU external to the rig may be needed. DX Engineering Off Center Fed Dipoles are designed to be rugged yet lightweight, and handles 1,500 watts SSB and CW. These kits include two lengths of premium 14 gauge relaxed PVC antenna wire, each with a ring terminal soldered on one end; one DXE-MC20-C4-1 DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 4:1 Dual Core Balun (with SO-239); the DXE-WA-BMB Dipole Center Insulator Mounting Bracket for Maxi-Core® Balun including End Insulators; and Stainless Steel hardware. Add supports, coax and rope to your order for a complete multi-band antenna installation.

DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas
DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas: Near Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS) is a propagation mode which uses high-angle radiation that sends signals almost straight up! They are then reflected back to Earth for very effective short to medium distance communications that works virtually every day and into the evening. NVIS dipoles are almost Omni-directional and their height requirement is for the feedpoint to be at only 15 feet above the ground! These 80 and 40 meter wire antennas work very well with their feedpoint at only 15 feet above the ground, supported by the included mast, or your own non-metallic support. The ropes tied to the wire dipole end-insulators are used as guys for the support mast, and are secured to the ground with four tent pegs. DXE-NVIS-8040S and the DXE-NVIS-8040 antenna kits are complete with everything required; the fiberglass mast (four, 4 ft. sections that extend to 15 ft.), a DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 1:1 Balun, model DXE-MC20-1-1T, a balun mounting kit, coax strain relief bracket, antenna wire, insulators, four tent pegs, rope, and a 100 ft. RG-8X coax assembly with PL-259s! The four legs of the antenna, each deployed 90 degrees apart, provide the mast guying. DXE-NVIS-8040SNM and the DXE-NVIS-8040NM antenna kits are exactly the same kits with everything except the 15 ft. fiberglass mast. Use your own non-metallic mast or hang the feedpoint 15 ft. above the ground from the limb of a tree. The DXE-NVIS-8040S and DXE-NVIS-8040SNM are shortened NVIS wire antenna kit version that features loading coils to make the 80 meter dipole legs the same length as the 40 meter dipole legs, 34 ft., so this antenna fits into a square area that is only about 50 ft. by 50 ft. The DXE-NVIS-8040 and DXE-NVIS-8040NM are full size, with 67 ft. wire dipole antenna legs for 80 meters and 34 ft. legs for 40 meters and it fits into a rectangular area approximately 100 ft. by 50 ft. NVIS rarely works at frequencies outside the range of 2 MHz to 10 MHz. The signal must penetrate the D layer of the ionosphere and bounce off the F layer. Signals on frequencies below 2 MHz will not penetrate the D layer; frequencies higher than 10 MHz will not bounce off the F layer at these sharp angles, they penetrate and continue out into space. Regular-height dipoles or vertical antennas have a lower take off angle and your signal may be heard three states away, but not in your own state due to the "skip zone." This skip zone is the area between the maximum ground wave distance and the shortest sky wave distance where no communications are possible. Depending on operating frequencies, antennas, their height above ground and propagation conditions, this skip zone can start at roughly 10 to 20 miles away and extend out to several hundred miles. NVIS mode of operation makes it ideal for in-state and next state communications during disasters or other emergency situations. The military has used NVIS techniques for decades to provide short haul communication with other units on the ground. This is why these antennas are ideal for round-table gatherings with regional ham friends on 40 and 80 meters, day to day and night after night. These antennas are easy to deploy and are great for camping, RVs, QRP, ARES, EMCOMM, State QSO Parties and Parks On The Air (POTA) and any other uses where short range HF operation on 80 or 40 meters is desirable. They are actually pretty stealthy, too! Due to their near vertical radiation, NVIS dipoles are almost Omni-directional. They even have a legal-limit power rating! Remember, Amateur Radio operators look to 80 and 40 meters for short skip NVIS operations. Order DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas and fill in the skip zone!

DX Engineering TWIG End Fed Half Wave QRP Antenna Kits
DX Engineering TWIG End Fed Half Wave QRP Antenna Kits include the essential components needed to build a lightweight, low-power (QRP) end-fed half-wave antenna for portable and field operations. Ideal for activities such as POTA® and SOTA™, these kits are designed for quick deployment, efficient operation, and minimal equipment requirements. When properly assembled and tuned, TWIG End Fed Half Wave QRP antennas deliver an SWR of less than 2:1 without the need for an antenna tuner and are rated for 25 watts SSB, 10 watts CW, and 5 watts digital modes. At the heart of these kits is a 49:1 transformer that matches the high feedpoint impedance of the half-wave radiator to a standard 50-ohm coaxial feedline. The integrated BNC female connector is compatible with recommended coaxial cables and most QRP transceivers. Once the included antenna wire is properly tuned for the desired operating band, an external tuner is typically unnecessary, reducing pack weight and simplifying field operation. No separate counterpoise wire is required, as the coaxial feedline serves this function when installed correctly. To simplify assembly and deployment, the kits feature a built-in quick-connect wire terminal designed for use with the included 24 AWG antenna wire. Two end insulators and attachment clips are also included to provide secure strain relief and convenient field installation. A DX Engineering wire winder and reusable Bongo ties help keep the antenna organized and compact when stored or transported. A typical installation uses a sloper configuration, with the feedpoint positioned approximately 6 to 7 feet above ground level and the antenna wire extending upward to a height of 25 to 30 feet. For optimum performance, a 25- to 35-foot coaxial feedline with BNC connectors is recommended. An optional DXE-LPFC-BNC Feedline Choke installed at the transceiver end of the coax is also recommended to help minimize common-mode current. While the antenna can be deployed in a variety of configurations, final wire lengths may vary depending on the installation method and operating requirements. User assembly is required. Recommended tools and materials include wire cutters, a tape measure, 3/16-inch diameter rope to hang the antenna, electrical tape, a suitable throwing weight for antenna installation, and an antenna analyzer for trimming and tuning the antenna element to the desired operating band.

DX Engineering Cable Strain Relief Kits
DX Engineering Cable Strain Relief Kits are designed to be used with DX Engineering and COMTEK Baluns, are included in certain Universal Wire Antenna insulator kits, and are offered with two cable clamp sizes to cover most popular sizes of coaxial cables. They may be used in many other applications with only a single point of suspension necessary. Long runs of coaxial cable are heavy, and if they are not properly restrained, the weight of the cable can cause a failure in your feedline connection. In some cases, the cable can pull completely out of the PL-259 connector. DXE Cable Strain Relief Kits are manufactured with corrosion-resistant aluminum and supplied with stainless steel hardware. These kits are very durable and will ensure that the cable stays connected, to keep you on the air. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Don't use the antenna and coax connector to support your cable! Use DX Engineering Cable Strain Relief Kits and relieve that strain!

DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas
DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas are designs that are rugged, yet lightweight. Using a tuner, they are usable to 30 MHz and come complete with the wire elements, ladder feedline, center T support, and end mount brackets. These antennas are built using the highest quality components. They use 14 AWG stranded-copper, PVC jacketed elements for flexibility and strength and 100 ft. of 18 AWG 300-ohm 0.88 Velocity Factor ladder lines that are UV-resistant. Stainless steel hardware is included. Often, a 4:1 balun is suggested for multi-band dipoles; however, the best balun to use for this application is a 1:1 ratio. The 1:1 baluns provide better balance, have lower loss, and are more tolerant to load impedance and balance variations than other baluns. A tuner balun is not included in the dipole antenna kits and is available separately. The dipole center T support has pre-drilled holes for the attachment of the wire elements, feedline, and support or messenger lines. The center support top hole is used for the attachment of a "messenger line" that can be strung above the antenna wire and is used to provide support for the antenna wire and feedline. The use of the messenger line, which is strongly recommended but not included, will reduce the stress on the element wires and keep the antenna from stretching over time, which will change its resonant frequency. This line can be thin Synthetic Textile rope available from DX Engineering, which has a high breaking strength. Ideally, it should attach to the same structure used for the dipole, only above it, forming at least a 30 degree angle between the dipole and the messenger line. For further information and to decide the amount of rope you will need, please read the included instructions and check your wire antenna area of construction. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. When you lack the room for more than one antenna or need a multiband antenna for band agility, consider one of these DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas as an elegant and economical solution!

Resonant, low-SWR operation is accommodated on two bands by adding a pair of Band Links. Changing bands is done easily by linking or unlinking pairs of clips on opposite sides of the dipole. With the center of the antenna at 15 to 20 ft. high, and the ends of the dipole a few feet above the ground, the links are easy to reach. Additional band link kits (DXE-LINK-KIT) are available separately to create multiband linked dipole antennas. Each optional Link Kit has the parts for one additional band and contains 2 insulators, 4 'gator clips and 4 clip covers. The Center Insulator 1:1 Balun feedpoint BNC is easily connected with super thin DXE-174VDB or special adapter DXE-8XVDXB DX Engineering Hi-Visibility Orange Coaxial Cables, available in various lengths. DX Engineering Band Link Kits
DX Engineering Band Link Kits (DXE-LINK-KIT) are insulators and wire clips, used to "add a band" to a portable wire antenna. These are the same band link parts as supplied with the DX Engineering Low Power Portable Dipole and Winder Kits. Band Links make manual band changes 'quick and easy' on portable 'low-to-the ground' resonant portable dipoles deployed as center-fed single support inverted-vee antennas, and on resonant end-fed antennas. Band Links are sold as a pair for a dipole. Alligator clips on the corresponding pair of Band Links are disconnected to change the dipole to the next higher band and are connected to change the resonance to the lower band. Only one link changes the band on a resonant end-fed wire. Band Links can be used to change the resonant (low SWR) frequency of a dipole or end-fed from CW to digital, and another to phone, and so on. Each DXE-LINK –KIT contains: • 2 Link Insulators – which support the wire and may be used to "break up" the wire antenna into multiband sections. • 4 Alligator Clips - two per Band Link. Two Band Links, one for each wire antenna leg, are included with the DX Engineering Low Power Portable Dipole and Winder Kit to make it a two-band antenna. Adding this second pair would make the dipole a three-band antenna, and a third pair will make the dipole a four-band resonant antenna, and so on.

DX Engineering TWIG QRP Off Center Fed Dipole Kits
DX Engineering TWIG QRP Off Center Fed Dipole Kits provide everything needed to build lightweight, low-power (QRP) Off Center Fed Dipole (OCF) antennas around the DXE-TWIG-4-1C QRP Current Balun. Designed for portable operating, these kits make it easy to assemble efficient multiband antennas for outdoor activities such as POTA® and SOTA®, as well as other field and portable operations on the 40 through 10-meter amateur bands. When properly constructed, these antennas are rated for 25 watts SSB, 10 watts CW, and 5 watts digital modes. At the heart of these kits is the included DXE-TWIG-4-1C balun, which features a 4:1 transformer that converts the approximately 200-ohm impedance of an OCF antenna to the desired 50-ohm impedance required by standard coaxial feedlines. A BNC female connector provides compatibility with recommended coaxial cables and most QRP transceivers. When installed correctly and tuned to the desired operating bands, the included 24 AWG PVC-insulated, stranded copper, high-visibility yellow antenna wire typically eliminates the need for an external antenna tuner. This reduces the amount of gear operators need to carry into the field while allowing for quick band changes and improved operating efficiency. For best performance, a coaxial feedline with BNC connectors (sold separately) measuring approximately 25 to 35 feet is recommended. These antennas can be deployed in a variety of configurations, with final wire lengths varying based on the installation method and operating requirements.
