DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits
DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits provide the appropriate transition from non-metallic to metallic guying cable at the ground end of tower guying systems. Steel Tail Kits are available for Phillystran HPTG-4000I, -6700I and 11200I Guy Lines. What is the function of the steel tail? Here is the recommendation by Phillystran, the manufacturer of HPTG-I High Performance Tower Guy non-metallic guy lines: A steel tail is a length of EHS (Extra High Strength) steel guy line connecting the HPTG-I assemblies to the turnbuckle or guy anchor. The steel tail protects the HPTG-I assemblies from damage due to brush fires, lawn maintenance equipment or vandals. The steel tail length should be sufficient to get the bottom end of the HPTG-I assembly above arm's reach, or above brush tops (if located in a marsh or tall brush area). The HPTG-I should never pass through tree limbs or be allowed to rub against poles or trees. The steel tail allows for easier guy length calculations and serves as a guy tension monitoring point, as well as a safer area to attach guy grips during guy line installation and tensioning. Eliminating the hassle of buying a length of steel cable and obtaining a special tool to cut it, DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits provide everything needed to isolate your tower's non-metallic guy cable from harm. Three different size kits are available for different tower guying requirements provided by Phillystran guy cables 4000I, 6700I and 11200I. Here are the items included in these innovative Steel Tail kits: - 12 ft. EHS steel guy line, Galvanized, in three kit sizes, 3/16 in., 1/4 in. or 5/16 in. - Porcelain Guy Line Strain Insulator, 502 or 504 depending upon kit size - Galvanized Steel Preform Dead End Big-Grips for EHS steel guy line, two per line - Heavy Duty Thimble, galvanized steel, appropriately sized for each kit - Cable Ties, UV protected Black, four, to secure installed Big-Grip ends Note: Phillystran guy line and Preform Dead End Big-Grips for Phillystran are not provided in this kit and must be ordered separately. DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits provide Porcelain Guy Line Strain Insulators for the top end of the Steel Tail so that the galvanized steel Big-Grips for the Phillystran and for the EHS Steel Guy Lines do not touching and make RF noise. For three different size Phillystran guy line, HPTG-4000I, -6700I and -11200I, these kits are available exclusively from DX Engineering in 3-packs for each level of tower guying.

DX Engineering Bent Pin Shackles
DX Engineering Bent Pin Shackles are used for guy line attachment to towers for Amateur Radio and commercial applications. Also known as a clevis in the power industry, these shackles are specially designed with a removable bent bolt and locking nut to go through the outer hole of the matching guy strain insulators commonly known as the "502" or the "504" in ham radio tower work. Forged from 1/2 in. steel and hot dip galvanized, these Bent Pin Shackles have a minimum ultimate strength of over 12,000 lbs. and have a rounded end large enough to be used around a tower leg. However, they are typically connected to a guy attachment tower ear or guy bracket, with a screw pin shackle used as a link. The insulators that fit inside of this shackle accept the guy line big grips from either metal or non-metallic guy lines. For those who already have insulators, Bent Pin Shackles are offered in a set of three for each level of guying. We sell the matching DXE-502 and DXE-504 insulators in sets of three. Also available are two kits that include three Insulators of either size and three Bent Pin Shackles. Look to DX Engineering for the unique tower hardware that you need.

DX Engineering Rotator Control Line Protectors
DX Engineering Rotator Control Line Protectors are custom made surge protectors designed for use on rotator cables - up to 8 conductors. We routinely protect power and antenna cables, why ignore rotator control cables? These protectors are also ideal for control lines of remote antenna switches and any low voltage control system where voltages are normally below 60V DC or AC. External terminals allow convenient connection while the surge devices remain securely protected inside the metal enclosure. DXE-IS-RCT features include: * Weatherproof metal enclosure with cover, mounting stud and terminal gaskets to deter water from entering the enclosure. * Terminal strips to connect up to eight rotator control wires * 1/4 in. x 20 mounting stud allowing multiple mounting configurations * Each line connection has an individual shunt MOV for maximum surge protection * Voltage spikes exceeding 82 Vdc (in either polarity) will be shunted to ground * RoHS compliant construction DXE-IS-RCT protectors are recommended to be installed on a tower leg or ground rod using an optional DXE-J-1 or DXE-J-2 Grounding Clamp or a DXE-UCGC Copper Ground Rod Clamp. The location you choose for your DXE-IS-RCT should provide a good, low-impedance ground connection. The surface to which a grounding clamp is connected should be thoroughly cleaned to a bright-colored surface and then treated with a conductive anti-oxidant coating. This procedure will minimize weather-related complications and improve conductivity for your DXE-IS-RCT. DXE-CCK Copper Cleaning Kits provide cleaning pads and copper paste which is ideal for this application. If a tower or mast is being used and is properly grounded, your DXE-IS-RCT may be connected to the base of that structure just above the grounding point. For best results, follow the installation instructions carefully. As with all electronic equipment, observe proper safety considerations. For example: Do not install your DXE-IS-RCT if there is a storm anywhere in your area. Do not adjust or touch the grounding system equipment when there is a storm anywhere in your area. Make sure all power is removed before making any adjustments or working on any ground system or grounding components. DXE-IS-RCT Specs: Surge Energy: 6500 A or 38 J (Max energy 8/20) Response Time: 10 ns typical, 25 ns max. DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes
The present-day DX Engineering was launched in the year 2000. To celebrate our 20th Anniversary in the year 2020 we have developed a new line of Baluns and Feedline Chokes. Introducing DX Engineering "Maxi-Core® 20" Baluns and Feedline Chokes. They reduce or eliminate currents on the outside of your feedline allowing you to hear and to be heard much better. They keep more RFI/BCI out of your antenna and receiver and transfer more of your transmitted signal to the antenna for higher efficiency, the best antenna pattern and maximum performance. Signaling a new era of RF performance across the 1.8 to 54 MHz frequency range, DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes handle full-legal-power-plus and provide higher common mode impedance (CMI) across a greater frequency range than competing models and even previous DX Engineering and Comtek models. Years of R&D coupled with major advancements in test equipment and techniques combined with custom ferrite materials have allowed our engineering team to design the DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes. Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Chokes have high CMI across the AM Broadcast band and the HF/6M spectrum, which is essential to provide sufficient suppression of unwanted transmitted and received RFI/BCI current on the feedline shield exterior. Hear and be heard with DXE Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes. Choose superior performance from these models: * DXE-MC20-1-1 Maxi-Core® 20 - 1:1 Current Choke Balun - For all HF-6m balanced antennas with a 50 ohm feedpoint, including resonant dipoles, loops, Yagis, beams, etc. * DXE-MC20-FC Maxi-Core® 20 - 1:1 Feedline Choke – This high CMI line isolator is perfect for use in line on 50 ohm coaxial feedlines, at the antenna, tower or shack end of the feedline. * DXE-MC20-1-1T Maxi-Core® 20 - 1:1 Current Choke Balun – This 1:1 "T" model is for force feeding antennas with a tuner. DX Engineering AVA-3 Active Matching Units
DX Engineering AVA-3 Active Matching Units are state-of-the-art broadband receive RF operational amplifiers that achieve unparalleled weak signal reception across the radio frequency range from 40 kHz* to 30 MHz. They work as a high impedance buffer between a short antenna element of 6 to 24 feet and an economical 75 ohm feedline. The AVA-3 and a short element are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. The gain adjustable AVA-3 is the sole upgrade and drop-in replacement for all discontinued receive array element amplifiers including Hi-Z Antennas AMP, PLUS6-AMP, AMP-V2 and AMP-PLUS-V2 as well as DXE-AVA-2 and AVA-1. The DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit is the heart of the new line of DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas, DXE-RSEAV-1. Compared to large antennas, this amplified short element method dramatically improves signal-to-noise performance for excellent VLF, LF and HF weak signal reception. Click or tap the title of the listed item for an overview - a complete description, Specifications, Required and Suggested Parts. Links to instruction manuals and charts appear in Documentation. The AVA-3 Active Matching Unit provides these features and benefits: • Ultimate frequency coverage of 40 kHz* to 30 MHz for VLF through HF (including the 2200m and 630m Amateur bands) • High Third Order Intercept (TOI) Performance +39dBm for superior strong signal handling equal to top transceivers • Consistent unit to unit gain for greatly improved array performance • Virtually Flat Gain (+/-0.4 dBm) across the entire frequency range • Internally settable gain (default -6, 0, or +6 dBm) for different ambient noise locations and element sizes • Direct DC via second F connector – internal settable choice for separate DC and RF coaxial cables for best performance, or standard Bias Tee DC on the RF coax • Each DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit operates on 12 -15 VDC at 25mA • Element is grounded when power is removed • 75 ohm F connectors support field serviceable RG-6 Quad Shield suitable up to 1,000 feet for VLF through HF *Frequency coverage below 200 kHz requires Direct DC on a separate DC only coaxial cable. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace and upgrade all the element amplifiers in the array with fully compatible DXE-AVA-3 units.

DX Engineering USB Isolator
DX Engineering USB Isolator, DXE-ISO-USB is an inline Solid State device that provides surge protection between two USB 2.0 devices, typically a transceiver and a computer. The DXE-ISO-USB is a passive device that requires no power, and it has two ports, one USB A and one USB B. It is bi-directional, so it can be installed in either direction. The supplied USB A to USB B standard patch cable, 19.7 in. (500mm), can be reversed and used for either type of equipment connection with the opposite connector to the mating port on the ISO-USB. A user supplied cable must have the opposite mating connector for the ISO-USB and its other end must have the USB connector type that provides connection to the second piece of equipment or computer. Often, an identical USB A to USB B will be on hand or is readily available. USB interface cables between several types of equipment can serve as a conduit to lightning pulses or other unexpected voltage pulses. For example, a damaging surge can occur whenever one device is connected to an antenna feedline that also has a USB cable to the other device, which is connected to a commercial AC power main, or through a DC power supply. The DXE-ISO-USB protects a transceiver from a voltage surge coming from the computer, and vice versa, it protects a computer from a surge from a transceiver. The maximum USB 2.0 speed of the DXE-ISO-USB is 480 Mbps (Mb/s). This supports RS-232 COM port data speeds greater than the fastest 115,200 bps baud rate selection found in most USB capable equipment. PLEASE NOTE: The DXE-ISO-USB does NOT support USB C Gb/s data speeds, and it does NOT pass sufficient DC current for charging or powering a device. Maximum current is 100mA (0.1A). It cannot be used for data storage devices and is not to be used for charging. In an unusual application, two different user supplied cables, USB A to USB C and USB B to USB C, could be used to provide DXE-ISO-USB protection between two USB C devices, as long as neither device is supplying or drawing power.

DX Engineering Dual Impedance Antenna Transformers
DX Engineering Dual Impedance Antenna Transformers are dual ratio UNUN (unbalanced to unbalanced line) transformers. They're great for coupling your 50 ohm coax to an antenna with a feed point impedance of either 25 or 12.5 ohms, typically found at HF mobile antennas. DX Engineering Dual Impedance Antenna Transformers are ideal for antennas that have been enhanced with a Hot Rodz capacity hat. These transformers are housed in an aluminum enclosure and use silver plated PTFE SO-239 connectors. Many mobile HF antennas are naturally between 10 ohms and 36 ohms at resonance. With 10 ohms at a 50 ohm feed point the resulting SWR is 5:1! Likewise, 36 ohms yields a 1.4:1 SWR. Matching at 1.4:1 isn't too bad, but 5:1 is definitely an issue. DX Engineering MM-1 Dual Impedance Antenna Transformers are ideal for adjusting the impedance mismatch in your HF mobile! When the natural resonant impedance of the antenna is at 30 ohms or below, the MM-1 mobile unun can provide the needed match. With a 50 ohm input, it provides a 25 ohm port and a 12.5 ohm port to facilitate mobile HF matching. Let's say that your antenna analyzer indicates a resonant antenna impedance of 22 ohms. Your SWR without an MM-1 would be 50/22 or 2.27:1. That's enough to cause considerable power rollback in most modern HF rigs. Using the MM-1 25 ohm port, your SWR would be 25/22, or 1.14:1. That's a very significant improvement! Many hams are using antenna analyzers to adjust mobile HF antennas. When a mismatch is indicated at resonance, a DX Engineering MM-1 Unun can solve the problem! Power handling capability depends on the match: * Using the 25 ohm to 50 ohm port, with SWR below 2:1 on the 50 ohm side, -- 750 watts PEP * Using the 12.5 ohm to 50 ohm port, with SWR below 2:1 on the 50 ohm side, -- 500 watts PEP Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Antenna analyzers are becoming more common. Buy or borrow one to check the impedance of your mobile antennas. Then get DX Engineering Dual Impedance Antenna Transformers to get the best match and highest efficiency you can!

DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas
DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas are designs that are rugged, yet lightweight. Using a tuner, they are usable to 30 MHz and come complete with the wire elements, ladder feedline, center T support, and end mount brackets. These antennas are built using the highest quality components. They use 14 AWG stranded-copper, PVC jacketed elements for flexibility and strength and 100 ft. of 18 AWG 300-ohm 0.88 Velocity Factor ladder lines that are UV-resistant. Stainless steel hardware is included. Often, a 4:1 balun is suggested for multi-band dipoles; however, the best balun to use for this application is a 1:1 ratio. The 1:1 baluns provide better balance, have lower loss, and are more tolerant to load impedance and balance variations than other baluns. A tuner balun is not included in the dipole antenna kits and is available separately. The dipole center T support has pre-drilled holes for the attachment of the wire elements, feedline, and support or messenger lines. The center support top hole is used for the attachment of a "messenger line" that can be strung above the antenna wire and is used to provide support for the antenna wire and feedline. The use of the messenger line, which is strongly recommended but not included, will reduce the stress on the element wires and keep the antenna from stretching over time, which will change its resonant frequency. This line can be thin Synthetic Textile rope available from DX Engineering, which has a high breaking strength. Ideally, it should attach to the same structure used for the dipole, only above it, forming at least a 30 degree angle between the dipole and the messenger line. For further information and to decide the amount of rope you will need, please read the included instructions and check your wire antenna area of construction. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. When you lack the room for more than one antenna or need a multiband antenna for band agility, consider one of these DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas as an elegant and economical solution!

Pretuned Quarter-Wave Phased Array Cables ensure optimum pattern control and gain from your phased antenna array. They are available individually, in pairs and in four-packs, all terminated with soldered silver-plated PL-259s. These cable assemblies are exactly as required for many 80 and 40 meters phased arrays including Comtek Hybrid Four Square Arrays, DX Engineering TFS4 Four Square Arrays, as well as DX Engineering Dual Vertical Arrays. DX Engineering Pretuned Quarter-Wave Phased Array Cables are made from the highest quality waterproof PE jacketed, direct-burial RG-11/U 75-ohm low-loss foam coaxial cable. They are called "phasing feed-lines" because they are one quarter wavelength long electrically, which differs from the free-space dimension by the velocity factor of the cable. This RG-11U coaxial cable is manufactured to DX Engineering specifications, with a nominal velocity factor of 0.82. That means they're the right physical length to allow for easy burial and routing from the center-mounted array phasing unit to the base of each vertical element. Maximum performance is achieve with properly installed phased arrays, including ground-mounted base-fed full-size quarter-wave elements with free-space array dimensions and complete, interconnected ground radial wire systems. The electrical dimensions of phased array transmission cables are critical to system performance. Each of our cable assemblies is hand crafted and electronically tuned at DX Engineering. Eliminate the trouble and concern of trying to tune your own cables and order a set of DX Engineering Pretuned Quarter-Wave Phased Array Cables. NOTE: Custom tuned phased cables for all other frequencies in each Amateur band are also available. See DX Engineering Phased Array Quarter Wave Tuned Cables.

DX Engineering Receiver Guard Electronic RF Limiters
DX Engineering Receiver Guard RG5000HD Electronic RF Limiters are the best choice of inline devices to protect your receiver antenna inputs. The Receiver Guard is a receive antenna input limiter specifically designed to protect a sensitive receiver front-end against high levels of RF and potential damage. At the heart of each Receiver Guard is a highly effective electronic RF limiter covering 500 kHz to 150 MHz with an insertion loss under 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz and under 0.30 dB up to 150 MHz. The multi-stage design includes a gas discharge tube for maximum pulse energy protection. The DXE-RG5000HD rejects 10 watts of catastrophic receive antenna feedline RF while passing a maximum signal of about 87 dB over S-9, which is only 25 mw, a signal level that is well below the point of front end damage. Receiver Guards are a must for multiple radio contesting stations and they provide low-cost front-end "insurance." Use them in these common high-RF situations: - Receive antennas in very close proximity to transmit antennas - Field-day operations with many transmitters in close range - Multi-transmitter contesting sites - Neighboring Amateur and CB operators - Frequent high-power mobile encounters Extensively tested and proven in real-world stations, the Receiver Guard works for all radios and offers the ultimate performance required by the upper tier of transceivers tested to have the best narrow-spaced third-order dynamic range or published RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range). These are passive electronic limiters, so competitive contesting stations use separate band filters in addition to the Receiver Guard. When there are high levels of RF on your receive antennas, the DX Engineering Receiver Guard generates far less harmonic noise than other limiters on the market, which allows your station to continue to operate safely and competitively. At normal HF signal levels the RG5000HD operates continuously with no effect on the performance of your station while providing the best possible protection for your radio. Here are key Receiver Guard features: * Keeps stray high levels of RF from damaging your receiver input * Ideal for separate 160 and/or 80 meter receive systems with large pulse and RF energy capture area * Uses state of the art components for maximum protection of receivers * Under 6 ns response time * Multi-Stage protection * Very low insertion loss * Uses BNC type connectors to avoid accidental connection to a transmit feedline * Has been developed and tested in world-recognized multi-multi contest station K3LR Specifications - DX Engineering Receiver Guard model DXE-RG-5000HD - Frequency Range: 0.5 through 150 MHz - Insertion Loss: < 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz, < 0.3 dB 50 MHz up to 150 MHz - VSWR: < 1.2:1 - Maximum Output Level at 10 W input: +14 dBm (0.025 W) - Maximum Power Handling: 10 W CCS (Continuous Commercial Service) - Device Impedance: 50 to 75 ohms, unbalanced - Connectors, Input and Output: BNC female Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. What happens if the receive antenna is extremely close to the transmit antenna, or there is an antenna support or other system failure that causes a high RF level to enter the receive antenna input? A DX Engineering Receiver Guard can save the day! Order yours now.
