DX Engineering Heavy-Duty 4130 Chromoly Steel Masts

DX Engineering offers Heavy Duty 4130 Chromoly Steel Masts in both 11 foot and 22 foot lengths. DX Engineering Heavy-Duty 4130 Chromoly Steel Masts offer ham radio operators an opportunity to stack large antennas. These 2-inch and 3-inch outside diameter galvanized masts feature a 0.250-inch wall thickness and meet ASTM A-513 Type 5 ratings. These high-strength carbon steel masts are cold-drawn and electric-welded with a specified yield stress rating of over 100,000 psi! Tensile strength minimum is above 110,000 psi. Minimum Rockwell B hardness is 96. They are temperature stress-relieved to ensure consistent mechanical strength. Compared to standard galvanized plumbing pipe, the Heavy‑Duty 4130 chromoly steel mast offers substantially greater strength and durability. The galvanizing on these masts meets ASTM A123/A123M specifications. As with all hot dip galvanized products, surface irregularities are normal. Any cut ends are protected with a cold galvanizing coating. Important: Because these masts are galvanized, their overall outside diameter will be larger than the nominal size. The 2 inch mast may measure up to 2.070 in. OD, and the 3 inch mast may measure up to 3.130 in. OD. Are you planning on stacking a few mono-banders on the tower? Are you going to have multiple Yagis stacked high and deep on an H frame? Are you raising a BIG log-periodic? If you are going to loft big antennas with a lot of wind area, then you absolutely need a DXE Heavy-Duty 4130 Steel Mast atop your heavy-duty tower! DX Engineering Heavy-Duty 4130 Chromoly Steel Masts may be ordered and picked-up at the Summit Racing Equipment Retail Store, 1200 Southeast Ave, Tallmadge, OH 44278. DX Engineering Lightning Rod Kits

The use of DX Engineering Lightning Rod Mast Mounts could protect your tower, antennas and station equipment from disastrous lightning damage. DX Engineering Lightning Rod Mast Mounts are 1/8 in. heavy-duty stainless steel clamps that will long outlast your steel tower. Their optional bolts (choose DXE-LRMM-FAST by combined mast and lightning rod diameters) are also high-quality stainless steel. Together, they are extremely durable clamps to keep your lightning rod in place. Lightning searches out the path of least resistance to ground. If that path is your tower, rotator and rotor bearings, antennas and coax, or the ground and electrical connections to your rigs, then that's where it will go. Providing a better path (one with very little resistance) is the key to keeping lightning outside the shack and limiting damage. When used with proper tower grounding, a heavy rotor-bearing bypass cable and installed coaxial surge protectors, a lightning rod above your antennas may save the day. Don't ignore proper grounding and lightning protection! Make a list of all the items you need to upgrade your station's lightning defense. Make sure a mast mounted lightning rod and DX Engineering Lightning Rod Mast Mounts are added to your list.

Insulated attachments prevent RF noise that can be created by Two kits are offered that include three Insulators of either size and three Bent Pin Shackles. The included porcelain guy strain insulators are commonly known in ham radio tower work as the "502" or the "504" so that is how these insulators are numbered. They have the mechanical strength of 10,000 pounds and 12,000 pounds, respectively. Each accepts big grip dead ends for either metallic or non-metallic guy lines. Also known as a clevis in the power industry, Bent Pin Shackles are specially designed with a removable bent bolt and locking nut to go through the outer hole of the matching insulator. Forged from 1/2 in. steel and hot dip galvanized, these shackles have a minimum ultimate strength of over 12,000 lbs. and have a rounded end that is large enough to be used around a tower leg. However, the assembly of the guy line and these insulated attachments are typically connected to a tower ear or guy bracket with a screw pin shackle used as a link. Order one DX Engineering Insulator and Bent Pin Shackle Kit for each level of guying. For those who already have insulators, Bent Pin Shackles are also available without insulators, in a set of three.
