DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 3 kW of RF power, DXE-LL450 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF. It is ideal for exceptionally long feedline runs and for low band wire antennas operated on multiple bands on which the feedpoint impedance can vary significantly, causing mismatch and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL450 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where antenna feedpoint impedance mismatches cause high SWR. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable when feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL450 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a high-quality flat RF feedline, about 0.938 in. wide (15/16") with two 16-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors (29 AWG x 19 strands) that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of around 400 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 91 percent. For proper performance, LL450 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL450 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, DXE-LL450 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-C4-1 4:1 Balun or a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax, not foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DXE-213U or DXE-214 Coaxial Cable Assemblies 12 or 18 ft. with PL-259s are perfect for this method, which eliminates the need for a special balanced tuner, and avoids the losses and detuning effects caused by unbalancing when ladder line is routed indoors near wires and ducts. DXE-LL450 is sold by the foot, previously sold as DXE-LL450-CTL, this is the same ladder line with a new part number. It is also available in spools of 500 ft. DXE-LL450-5C and 1,000 ft. DXE-LL450-1K, which are specified for DX Engineering Reversible Beverage System Antennas. NOTE: This type of feedline is intended for MF and HF use and is not suitable for use above 54 MHz. Also consider DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line, DXE-LL300, an excellent alternative low-loss HF feed line that reduces impedance extremes on non-resonant HF multiband antenna systems.

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 2.5 kW of RF power, DXE-LL300 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF that is ideal for long feedline runs. It is an excellent feedline choice for a low band non-resonant wire antenna operated on multiple bands on which the impedance varies significantly, causing mismatches and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL300 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where impedance mismatches cause high SWR. The lower impedance of DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is actually better suited than 450 ohm ladder line for limiting the impedance extremes of non-resonant multiband antennas. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable for feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL300 Ladder Line is a flat, high-quality RF feedline, about 0.438 in. wide with two 18-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of 275 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 88 percent. For proper performance, LL300 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL300 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Most often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, dipoles, and inverted-vees, DXE-LL300 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax instead of foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems

DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems basically allow two Beverage antennas to be switched to receive in opposite directions while sharing the same physical space. DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems antennas provide two opposite "end-fire" directional patterns with excellent front-to-rear directivity and superior signal-to-noise ratio as compared to transmitting antennas. Dramatically improved long distance weak signal results may be achieved on MW and the 160, 80 and 40 meter bands, including shortwave bands, with receive-only Beverage antennas using wires that are typically only 350 to 800 feet long, depending upon the band of interest. The two-direction DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems offer a space and installation advantage because two opposite single-wire Beverage antennas would require twice the length. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems are immune to the strong signal overload and core saturation common in multi-transmitter contesting environments and are used by winning contest stations and low-band DXers around the world. These Reversible Beverage antennas have two "F" connectors; one "Away" port for the default end-fire receiving pattern off the end of the wire, and one "Toward" port for the opposite direction. The standard configuration of these systems has the "Toward" port terminated (75-ohm termination included), so both antennas share a common feedline. Applying a negative 10 to 18V DC to the feedline switches the system between the two antenna ports for reception in opposite directions. For simultaneous reception from opposing directions, each of the two feedlines can be run to separate receivers, with the termination load not used. You can build a 4-direction receive antenna system with two DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems and one DX Engineering RLS-2 Two-Port Receiving Switch that also requires only one feedline! The optional DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Coupler, model DXE-FVC-1 is highly recommended to provide all of the required feedline voltage injection. Plus, the optional DXE-EC-4 BCD Control Console completes the system for four-direction switching right in the shack. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems are optimized to use our optional 450 ohm ladder line for the antenna element. We strongly recommend using that type of "window line" because the consistent spacing of the antenna wires will produce the best operational results. However, the RBS will work with any 300-600 ohm 2-wire line. For best feed line results, DX Engineering highly recommends using our high quality flooded or quad-shielded 75-ohm coax with F-type compression connectors to ensure a weatherproof installation. Additional features include: * Broad operating range, 0.2 to 30 MHz * Fully isolated grounds prevent common-made noise and unwanted signals * 75 ohm design enables the use of high quality, low cost cable and connectors * RF shielded housing used for isolation and improved life * Directional Switching Voltage: nominal 12V AC or negative 12V DC, feedline injected * Directional Switching Current: less than 80 mA * Antenna impedance: 300-600 ohm (450 ohm recommended) * Feedline impedance: 50-75 ohm (75 ohm recommended) * RBSA-1FP Feed Point unit dimensions: 5.5 in. width x 3.5 in. depth x 1.5 in. height * RBS-1RT Reflection Transformer unit dimensions: 2.125 in. width x 2.125 in. depth x 1.125 in. height Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems offer the best DX reception and flexibility in high performance two-direction wire Beverage receive antennas. Get yours set up soon!

DX Engineering Time Variable Sequencer Units

DX Engineering Time Variable Sequencer Units are microprocessor-based transmit/receive control signal-delay units. They can provide 0-30 milliseconds of delay, programmable in 2 milliseconds increments, to as many as five different outputs tied to your CW keying or push-to-talk (PTT) lines. By controlling the receive-to-transmit (and back) timing of linear amplifiers, and other sensitive equipment, damage caused by improper switch timing may be avoided. These DX Engineering TVSUs improve CW performance by eliminating the annoying leading-edge chopping or truncating of Morse characters, especially important in contests or pileups, where sending accuracy is critical. Now RoHS-compliant, they may also control external devices, such as preamps, active antennas, or external relays that need to have power removed during transmit. Separate power-in and power-out jacks on the front panel are used to control external power. Two 2.1mm power plugs and two 3.5mm stereo plugs are provided. Additional TVSU features include: * Control timing of PTT turn-on, hang delay of PTT, amplifier hang delay, external antenna relay hang delay, and turn-on delay of auxiliary output * Dip switch settable delays of 0-30ms in 2ms increments * Side tone generator that follows input of keyer or hand key, not transmitter * Side tone pitch can be programmed from 300 to 1,000 Hz in 50 Hz steps * Front panel headphone jack with adjustable volume * Supports CW full break-in * Can control external power to DX Engineering active receive antennas and thereby permit operation in closer proximity to transmit antennas Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. To make sure that all of your equipment keeps safely in step, use one of these DX Engineering Time Variable Sequencer Units!

DX Engineering RT4500HD Rotator Control Extension Cables

DX Engineering RT4500HD Rotator Control Extension Cables are premium pre-assembled cables with the appropriate 4-pin mating connectors installed for the DX Engineering RT4500HD Rotator. They eliminate the time-consuming task of soldering two additional optional connectors onto a long control cable. Designed for durability, these 4-conductor cable assemblies are rugged, yet flexible and are built to last with heavy duty stranded copper conductors and industry leading direct-bury polyethylene (PE) black jacket that is impervious to water and highly resistant to sunlight UV. Two 12AWG wires are for DC supply to the rotator motor and two 18AWG wires are for the rotator Pulse Sensor. One end of the cable features an interlocking weather-sealed 4-pin DXE-LP20-F female connector that mates with the RT4500HD rotator pigtail male connector. The 4-pin DXE-LP20-M cable mount male connector on the opposite end of this extension cable is intended to be connected to the controller pigtail. The DXE-LP20-F Rotator Control Line cable-mount female connector supplied with the RT4500HD, along with any convenient length of DXE-CW1812OR Heavy-Duty Spec Rotator Cable (sold separately), can be used to make a permanent pigtail with appropriate ring terminals for the screw terminal connections on the rotator controller. The use of the pigtail and this Rotator Control Extension Cable with mating connectors supports easy disconnection of the controller for additional surge protection and for simplified equipment repositioning. In this arrangement, the female receptacle connectors are appropriately used to supply power. Cable mounted male connector exposed pins are never energized when they are disconnected from their mate, thereby eliminating an accidental short circuit to ground. NOTE: At the appropriate point along the run, this cable may be cut, split, prepared and terminated for connection to a grounded surge protection device. Control Line Surge Protection, such as the DXE-CLTB-M or DXE-IS-RCT, is recommended to be installed at the grounding point of the tower base.
