DX Engineering Radial Plates

DX Engineering Radial Plates are made of 304 Stainless Steel, 1/8 inch thick and 11.625 in. x 11.625 in. outside dimensions. They are made with the finest Stainless Steel that will last! Not cheap aluminum that will dissolve in your soil! ".....it is so beautiful, I want to frame it and put it up on the wall - not in the dirt under my vertical. Sebastian - NS0W" Unique enough to be covered by two US Patents, (Pat. No. 6,927,740 and D533,167), the DX Engineering Radial Plate is meant for those of you that have or are building a quarter wave vertical antenna and who want an easy, neat and effective way to connect those essential radial wires and the coax to your vertical antenna for the lowest takeoff angle and strongest signals. Stainless steel construction assures that your signal won't disappear like a disintegrating aluminum radial plate. One OPTIONAL SADDLE CLAMP (SOLD SEPARATELY) IS REQUIRED to mount the DX Engineering Radial Plate to a ground mounted antenna support pipe, also sold separately. For STEEL pipe from 1 to 2 in. O.D. the all-Stainless Steel DXE-SSVC-2P is the REQUIRED clamp, sold separately. For STEEL pipe from 2 to 3 in. O.D. the all-Stainless Steel DXE-SSVC-3P is the REQUIRED clamp, sold separately. For pipe or rod whose O.D. is between 0.50 in. and 1.75 in. the DXE-CAVS-11P V-saddle clamp is the REQUIRED clamp, sold separately. For aluminum tubing from 1 in.to 2 in. O.D., the DXE-CAVS-2P V-saddle clamp is the REQUIRED clamp, sold separately. This plate will work perfectly with most commercially available vertical antennas such as the Hustler BTV series (4BTV thru the 6BTV), the SteppIR (BiggIR or SmallIR) or an antenna of your own construction. When used with the Hy-Gain AV-18HT Hy-Tower antenna, the radial plate will sit on the concrete under the base plate and will fit within the three concrete-mounted base/insulator pipes. The DX Engineering Radial Plate has a number of advantages over the other plates on the market: First, the DX Engineering Radial Plate will attach easily and rigidly to a 4x4 or 6x6 wooden post using simple wood screws, or to a steel or aluminum pipe (up to 3.0 in. outside diameter) using an OPTIONAL SADDLE CLAMP, SOLD SEPARATELY, to attach to whatever you have supporting your vertical. Size and clamp selection is detailed above. Second, this plate actually has a place where you can attach your coax! What a concept! The plate assembly has been drilled for optional SO-239 Chassis Mount and Bulkhead Fittings. This is a MUST item for proper handling of RF ground current! Regardless of how you do it, it is imperative that your coax be grounded to the radials to complete the circuit for your radial current. Third, the DX Engineering Radial Plate is laser cut from tough stainless steel so that it has smooth edges, won't corrode and will always look good. You will be proud of how good your installation looks. Fourth, it is square. Why? Because a square has more lineal distance around it than the round plates that you usually see. This allowed us to put 60 holes in it, use larger bolts for more clamping power and still not crowd them together. Remember: The more current that flows in through your radials and through this plate, the stronger your signal is going to be and the more DX stations that you are going to hear. So, put on as many radials as you can. Fifth, we supply the correct Stainless Steel bolts, nuts, star washers, flat washers and lock washers to attach the radials. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. For the absolutely finest made radial plate available, order DX Engineering Radial Plates. Suggested as a station upgrade product - make more contacts to worldwide DX stations and DXpeditions

DX Engineering Tilt Base Antenna Mounting Systems

The patented* DX Engineering Tilt Base Antenna Mounting Systems enable an operator to raise or lower an antenna in seconds, while leaving the base of the antenna securely attached to the mounting plate and post. DX Engineering Tilt Bases make it easy to tune your vertical, repair, or simply lower your antenna to a safe horizontal position long before bad weather hits. One person can install, raise and lower, and service their vertical antenna with our stainless steel Tilt Base; just walk it up or down. The Tilt Base prevents potential accidents when climbing a step ladder to tune the antenna, especially on soft ground. This is an essential tool that has helped countless hams eliminate the possibility of personal injury and damage to their ground-mounted vertical antenna. There is no need to remove brackets from the support posts and you will never again have to lift the entire weight of the antenna in order to tilt it down or tilt it up. Nearly two decades of customer comments about DX Engineering Tilt Bases (and the Radial Plate) have included "it's a work of mechanical art" and another exclaimed "...it's so gorgeous I don't want to mount it outside, I want to hang it on the wall!" Year after year, users are thankful for the amazing ease of the Lift, Slide and Tilt action of this antenna mount for making antenna adjustments simple. Recently, DX Engineering customer Michael, KO4VVH, said "I wondered why this bracket had a cost over $60, but when it arrived today I was blown away. Heavy duty doesn't do this beast justice. Heavy plate stainless steel and it is one of the best mounts I've ever owned. It's big and heavy... Ultra heavy duty. I will mount it up to my Hustler 5BTV HF antenna so I can drop it to ground level for maintenance, adjustments and SWR tweaks. Thank you!" Precision-cut from 3/16 in. 304 stainless steel, these Tilt Base Antenna Mounts are virtually indestructible. They conveniently mount to the same ground pipe or tubing that you use for the antenna and Radial Plate. You could use lag screws or carriage bolts to mount the Tilt Base and the Radial Plate to a wood post, but typically they are securely mounted to a 2 in. max. OD pipe using optional SSVC-2P saddle clamps, displayed in "Required Parts". There are five versions of the DX Engineering Tilt Base Antenna Mounting Systems kit designed for a variety of HF antenna types: DXE-TB-3P: Specifically designed with included stainless steel hardware to mate with the antenna mounting bracket of the Hustler 4, 5 or 6 BTV vertical antennas. DXE-TB-4P: This Tilt Base model provides a mounting plate and clamps for tilting a customer supplied antenna support mast up to 1.75 in. OD and 10 ft. tall, for mounting elevated no-radial vertical antennas that weigh less than or equal to 20 pounds, and have a height of no more than 28 ft. The Vertical antennas and mast assemblies must be adequately guyed. Precautions must be taken when raising or lowering to avoid undue lateral stress on the tilt mechanism. The TB-4P is the tilt option for legacy DX Engineering vertical antenna models DXE-30VE-1, DXE-40-VE-1 and DXE-40VA-1. See the DXE-TB-7P below for the replacement COM-30VA and COM-40VA Monoband Vertical Antennas. DXE-TB-6P: Is specifically designed to mate to the antenna mounting bracket of the Hy-Gain AV-14AVQ (HGN-AV-14AVQ). This special tilt base mounting system includes stainless steel hardware that allows the AV-14AVQ to be closer to ground level for maximum performance. DXE-TB-7P: Is specifically designed to mate to the COMTEK 30 Meter (COM-30VA) and 40 Meter (COM-40VA) Vertical Antennas. DXE-TB-8P: Is specifically designed to mate to the COMTEK 20 Meter Vertical Antennas (COM-20VA) which may be tuned to resonate on one band, 20, 17, 15, 12, or 10 meters. DX Engineering Ruggedized BTV Reinforced Lower Tube

Build or refurbish any Hustler BTV antenna to be stronger with a DX Engineering Ruggedized BTV Reinforced Lower Tube. Almost any time we hear of a Hustler BTV Series antenna being damaged by wind, it's the lower tube that gets bent. A BTV is a very tough antenna! But like any antenna, if the wind hits it just right, they can still be damaged. That's where our DX Engineering Ruggedized BTV Reinforced Lower Tube comes in. Our DXE-RLT double-wall aluminum tube is stronger than the original single-wall tube and it works on all BTV Series antennas, old and new. It is 72 in. overall so it is direct replacement; it takes the place of the original Hustler BTV antenna 72 in. lower tube (HSR-4087-1). Once the DXE-RLT reinforced tube is installed, your BTV antenna will be much stronger! Perfect for a new or old BTV antenna, a stronger lower antenna also offers protection against accidents and animal damage. DX Engineering Receive Feedline Voltage Injectors

DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Injectors, DXE-FVI-1, are high-quality bias-tee devices that place direct current onto a receive antenna system's coaxial cable while preventing DC from reaching the Radio port. These FVI-1 voltage injectors are used to power active accessory devices, such remote relays, switching systems, and preamplifiers. These are the original equipment FVI-1 units provided with single DX Engineering Active Receive Vertical antenna models. Voltage is applied via the 2.1mm power connector to the receive antenna feedline F connector. The RCA phono jack connects to the receiver input with that DC voltage blocked, while passing RF from 100 kHz to 30 MHz. Various RCA phono plug adapters for different RF cable connectors are available in Suggested Parts. Two DXE-FVI-1 feedline voltage injectors may be connected at opposite ends of a feedline to provide DC voltage on the transmission line for your own custom application, keeping the input and output RF devices isolated from the voltage. The included 120V AC 60 Hz wall transformer power supply may be connected to the 2.1mm power connector may to place approximately +12 volts DC on the coaxial cable center conductor, with the coaxial cable shield used as the negative ground return. A different station power supply, 1-16 VDC, may be used with an in-line, 1 Ampere, fast-blow fuse for various devices. DX Engineering feedline voltage injectors are ready for your "DC power on the coax" needs! DX Engineering Yagi Antenna Hairpin Matching Systems

DX Engineering Yagi Antenna Hairpin Matching Systems are a convenient way to match the feed-point of a low-impedance Yagi design to 50 ohms. Then a 1:1 balun fed with 50-ohm coaxial cable may be used for optimal beam antenna performance and cancellation of RFI-causing common mode current. The DX Engineering Yagi Antenna Hairpin Matching Systems are balanced and easy to tune. They feature an upgraded electrical and mechanical design and are easily installed and tuned in as little as 10 minutes. They have enough capacity for almost any HF through 6 meter high performance Yagi design. Depending on your Yagi design, they include all of the hardware items that you need to match your Yagi antenna to a 50 ohm feed line -- without the need for drilling holes. If your Yagi does not have a split driven element (insulated from the boom), you will need to add the proper-size DX Engineering Insulated Boom-to-Element Bracket and DX Engineering Boom-to-Element Bracket Hardware Kit. Depending on the driven element diameter, you may also need DX Engineering Element Adapters. Different models cover most Yagi boom sizes and they are easily installed on the boom and fastened to the Yagi's split driven element with clamps. These same clamps may also be used for the balanced connections to the balun that handles the unbalanced coaxial cable. Hairpin Matching System Background: Many directly-fed Yagi antenna designs for HF and 50 MHz that are optimized for the best gain and front-to-back performance have feed-point impedances of approximately 20 to 25 Ohms, at resonance. Obviously, this will not allow a direct connection to a 50-ohm feedline without a serious mismatch (2:1 or more). There are various ways to match the driven element to the feed-line successfully; Gamma Match, T-Match, and the Hairpin (aka Beta Match) are favorites. The Gamma match is an outdated, unbalanced system that typically distorts the antenna radiation pattern. The T-match is basically two Gamma Match systems on either side of the boom, which may correct the imbalance, but is a mechanical nightmare and is difficult to tune correctly. In a superior-balanced Yagi feed system, the driven element must be insulated from the boom and it must be split at the boom so that the driven element halves are also insulated from each other, like a dipole. A balanced Yagi can make use of a balun for balanced distribution of RF currents and a proper, predictable radiation pattern. While the hairpin has been popular with radio operators for years, DX Engineering Yagi Antenna Hairpin Matching Systems improve on the classic design by using rods that are parallel to the boom. You can quickly match your Yagi antenna by repositioning the boom clamp and shorting bar along the boom and hairpin rods, so the antenna is easier to adjust for minimum SWR than conventional wire-loop hairpins. DX Engineering Yagi Antenna Hairpin Matching Systems also add rigidity, offer better protection against ice and wind, and add a professional appearance. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Improve your Yagi feed-point matching with DX Engineering Yagi Antenna Hairpin Matching Systems and accessories!

DX Engineering TWIG End Fed Half Wave QRP Antenna Kits

DX Engineering TWIG End Fed Half Wave QRP Antenna Kits include the essential components needed to build a lightweight, low-power (QRP) end-fed half-wave antenna for portable and field operations. Ideal for activities such as POTA® and SOTA™, these kits are designed for quick deployment, efficient operation, and minimal equipment requirements. When properly assembled and tuned, TWIG End Fed Half Wave QRP antennas deliver an SWR of less than 2:1 without the need for an antenna tuner and are rated for 25 watts SSB, 10 watts CW, and 5 watts digital modes. At the heart of these kits is a 49:1 transformer that matches the high feedpoint impedance of the half-wave radiator to a standard 50-ohm coaxial feedline. The integrated BNC female connector is compatible with recommended coaxial cables and most QRP transceivers. Once the included antenna wire is properly tuned for the desired operating band, an external tuner is typically unnecessary, reducing pack weight and simplifying field operation. No separate counterpoise wire is required, as the coaxial feedline serves this function when installed correctly. To simplify assembly and deployment, the kits feature a built-in quick-connect wire terminal designed for use with the included 24 AWG antenna wire. Two end insulators and attachment clips are also included to provide secure strain relief and convenient field installation. A DX Engineering wire winder and reusable Bongo ties help keep the antenna organized and compact when stored or transported. A typical installation uses a sloper configuration, with the feedpoint positioned approximately 6 to 7 feet above ground level and the antenna wire extending upward to a height of 25 to 30 feet. For optimum performance, a 25- to 35-foot coaxial feedline with BNC connectors is recommended. An optional DXE-LPFC-BNC Feedline Choke installed at the transceiver end of the coax is also recommended to help minimize common-mode current. While the antenna can be deployed in a variety of configurations, final wire lengths may vary depending on the installation method and operating requirements. User assembly is required. Recommended tools and materials include wire cutters, a tape measure, 3/16-inch diameter rope to hang the antenna, electrical tape, a suitable throwing weight for antenna installation, and an antenna analyzer for trimming and tuning the antenna element to the desired operating band.

DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas

DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas are designs that are rugged, yet lightweight. Using a tuner, they are usable to 30 MHz and come complete with the wire elements, ladder feedline, center T support, and end mount brackets. These antennas are built using the highest quality components. They use 14 AWG stranded-copper, PVC jacketed elements for flexibility and strength and 100 ft. of 18 AWG 300-ohm 0.88 Velocity Factor ladder lines that are UV-resistant. Stainless steel hardware is included. Often, a 4:1 balun is suggested for multi-band dipoles; however, the best balun to use for this application is a 1:1 ratio. The 1:1 baluns provide better balance, have lower loss, and are more tolerant to load impedance and balance variations than other baluns. A tuner balun is not included in the dipole antenna kits and is available separately. The dipole center T support has pre-drilled holes for the attachment of the wire elements, feedline, and support or messenger lines. The center support top hole is used for the attachment of a "messenger line" that can be strung above the antenna wire and is used to provide support for the antenna wire and feedline. The use of the messenger line, which is strongly recommended but not included, will reduce the stress on the element wires and keep the antenna from stretching over time, which will change its resonant frequency. This line can be thin Synthetic Textile rope available from DX Engineering, which has a high breaking strength. Ideally, it should attach to the same structure used for the dipole, only above it, forming at least a 30 degree angle between the dipole and the messenger line. For further information and to decide the amount of rope you will need, please read the included instructions and check your wire antenna area of construction. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. When you lack the room for more than one antenna or need a multiband antenna for band agility, consider one of these DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas as an elegant and economical solution!

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10000 Buffer Amplifiers

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10000 Buffer Amplifiers may be the products most often requested by radio experimenters and electronics enthusiasts. These are the very popular circuits, designed by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), that are crucial for adding a SDR receiver and panadapter display capabilities to a receiver or transceiver which lacks that feature. The Z10000 Buffer Amplifier's high-input impedance can safely tap the early-stage broadband Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal from inside your radio and feed the buffered and amplified low impedance IF signal to your external SDR receiver. It can then produce a spectrumscope - waterfall display pattern of the receiver signals on a compatible tablet or monitor and PC that is running the appropriate third party SDR software. DX Engineering offers two Clifton Labs Buffer Amplifier Kits to add an IF output SMA connector to the rear panel of your radio: * The DXE-Z10000U-KIT is the Universal Buffer Amplifier Kit that covers 50 kHz to 100 MHz. This kit is designed for those willing to do an internal modification, and will output the IF signal of virtually any receiver or transceiver that has an IF in that range. However, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT can be used as a buffer and low-gain preamp between any low level RF devices that operate in that range. As a buffer, this circuit provides over 90dB of reverse isolation to protect the IF stages of the radio from possible birdies on an SDR receiver input. So, even if your radio has an IF output connector, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT may be used externally, with a user-supplied shielded metal enclosure, to be certain to maintain proper radio operation. * The DXE-Z10000K2-KIT is the Buffer Amplifier Kit specifically tuned to the 4.915 MHz IF signal of the Elecraft K2 transceiver. It offers the same high reverse isolation, plus the added benefit of a tuned IF input with a narrower bandwidth of operation and a potentially a lower noise floor on the output. Both Buffer Amp kits contain the updated, completely assembled and tested DX Engineering Z10000C PC Board with a nominal 6.5 dB gain, retaining all the benefits of the reliable original Z10000B boards. Both kits include our finished printed circuit board, required coaxial cables assemblies with special connectors, insulating materials, and hardware—all for an easier installation than ever before! A third party SDR receiver, software (typically free) and compatible tablet or PC and monitor are required to make use of the IF signal provided by the Z10000 Buffer Amplifier and see the signals that your old radio can hear. Due to the high number of specialized radio installations, no printed instructions are included with these buffer kits. Instructional web links are found on the part detail webpages. Installation web documents and videos are only available online. The legacy that was built by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), with Clifton Laboratories, lives on with select products, exclusively from DX Engineering. NOTE: DX Engineering cannot provide electronic technical support of devices installed in user radios and is not responsible or liable for damages that occur to a user radio due to improper or erroneous techniques during the installation of this product. Unplug all electronic devices when working on them and observe all electrical safety and electrostatic discharge precautions when opening sensitive electronics. Modification of a radio should only be attempted by individuals with advanced experience on electronic circuit repair and operation.

DX Engineering TWIG QRP 4:1 Current Baluns

The DXE-TWIG-4-1C QRP Current Balun is designed to be used as the feedpoint of a very low power (QRP) Off Center Fed dipole (OCF) antenna. Ideal for use during outdoor adventures such as POTA® or SOTATM, or any portable operation. The TWIG-4-1C incorporates a 4:1 transformer to convert the OCF antenna impedance of 200-ohms to the desired 50-ohms to match the coaxial cable feedline. It also has a 1:1 feedline choke, to prevent current imbalance, detuning, and to help prevent the addition of unwanted noise. The connector is a BNC female and mates with the recommended coax and most low power (QRP) transceivers. When properly installed and the element wire is properly tuned, you should not need an external tuner. This reduces the need to bring more equipment than is necessary or a portable operation and provides higher efficiency of your output signal and instant band changes. The antenna shown in this manual was designed and tested using the optional 24 AWG wire such as CEW-VIZ24-YEL100 stranded copper, PVC insulated, high visibility yellow antenna wire. The BNC connectors coax cable is recommended to be at least 25 to 35 feet in length. The antenna can be installed in different configurations of wire lengths for various band selections. For example, a very common TWIG QRP OCF for 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters has one 57 ft. dipole wire and the other wire is 12 ft. See the chart in the Instruction Manual linked below for details. This is a low power (QRP) antenna system balun which handles only 25 Watts on SSB, 10 Watts on CW and 5 Watts on digital mode when antenna SWR less than 2:1, without the use of an antenna tuner.

DX Engineering Flanged Feedpoint Connectors

DX Engineering Flanged Feedpoint Connectors provide a direct transition from coaxial cable to feedpoint for Yagi, Loop Fed Arrays (LFA), Rotatable Dipoles and other antennas that do not have a coaxial connector. The worry of failed weatherproofing at the end of a stripped coax is eliminated for the 50 ohm beam or loop antenna feedpoint with stud terminals. Flanged Feedpoint Connectors allow direct connection of a PL-259 or N male terminated coaxial cable. Only this Flanged version (FFPC) can be mounted using the optional bracket, Flanged Feedpoint Connector Mount (FFPM) and an optional studded band clamp or other clamp of choice. Two connector types are available in three versions: DXE-FFPC-SO239ZD UHF Female with 11 inch leads and color-coded heat shrink DXE-FFPC-SO239 UHF Female with 4 inch leads and color-coded heat shrink DXE-FFPC-N Type N with 4 inch leads and color-coded heat shrink Each Flanged Feedpoint Connector (FFPC) features silver-soldered solid tinned-copper 12 AWG wire leads to the silver-plated connector, which is epoxy potted into a plastic housing, 1.573 inch square and 0.787 inch deep, for a weather-sealed direct feedpoint connection. Each lead has color-coded heat shrink; Red is Center and Black is Shield. Additional weatherproofing should be applied to the male-female connector junction, as recommended. DX Engineering Flanged Feedpoint Connectors two wire leads are about 4 in. each, or 11 in. each for the ZD version. A longer length of wire can be soldered to these tinned wires, if required, but keep in mind that increasing connection spacing drives up feedpoint impedance, which could increase the possibility of mismatch on an antenna that has a 50 ohm feedpoint. Flanged Feedpoint Connectors are ideal for phased antenna pairs or multiples, on which a coaxial cable ferrite RF bead choke is desired at the feedpoint, in place of a traditional enclosure balun. The top performing 40-bead DXE-FBC Ferrite Bead Choke fits on 0.405 in. diameter coax cable, like RG-213U and RG-8U, prior to connector installation. For the 50 ohm beam or loop antenna feedpoint with stud terminals, the DXE-FFPC-SO239, DXE-FFPM and DXE-FBC are THE perfect combination of feedpoint connection, mounting and RF choke.

DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits

Some vertical antenna manufacturers indicate that their antennas do not need guying. During times of high winds or ice loading, however, some of these vertical antennas may sustain damage or fail altogether. With the small amount of effort needed to install one of these DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits, the risk hardly seems worth taking. They feature a 4-point guying scheme that provides the best mechanical advantage to prevent wind stress, regardless of direction. The guying is intended for stability only and should never be depended on for primary support. DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits are especially recommended for use with DX Engineering tilt bases, because just one of the guy ropes has to be loosened when you tilt the vertical down. The remaining guys help to stabilize the vertical in three directions when being raised. These kits have been designed to be used with ground-mounted quarter-wavelength vertical antennas, such as DX Engineering monoband and multiband verticals and the Hustler 4, 5, and 6-BTV models. Using the DX Engineering vertical antenna guying kits, you can install four guy ropes approximately halfway up the vertical antenna system to ground level and angled at approximately 45 degrees. Guying should be tightened just enough to permit the antenna to swing a few inches. The ends of the ropes are tied to the earth anchors that are screwed into the ground at about the same angle as the ropes. Tie the other ends of the ropes to the vertical antenna just above one of the antenna element clamps or traps (a guying ring is not required). Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. The DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits are available in different lengths to fit your varying vertical antenna needs.
