DX Engineering RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers

DX Engineering RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers are newly designed versions of the RPA-1 with internal slots for accessory modules. They accommodate the addition of the one optional plug-in module, such as the 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Module, or the Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module, or the DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module. DXE-RPA-2 preamps have very low internal noise and are optimized for the 300 kHz to 35 MHz range. They help you hear the weakest signals without artificially raising the noise. Meticulous craftsmanship and durable, robust components allow these preamplifiers to withstand high signal levels while providing superior dynamic range and third-order intercept performance that equals or exceeds most receiver and transceiver front-ends. RPA-2 Receive Preamplifiers have key features added, as requested by our tech-oriented customers and enthusiasts: - Internal slot accommodates the optional 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Module to accomplish typical receive antenna feedline to equipment transitions without losses -Also allows direct connection to 50 ohm receive antenna feedline BNC connectors with no transformer required - Internal slot for DXE-RG5000HD-PM Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module – Front-end protection for the RPA-2 - Secure BNC female connectors and receive-system friendly F female connectors remain; both prevent accidental connection to transmitting devices with UHF connectors - A green LED indicates when DC power is present and the preamplifier circuit is engaged. - An ingenious positive-capture threaded-sleeve 2.1 mm power connector that ensures the DC power cannot be accidentally disconnected from the RPA-2. - Alternatively, a simple internal jumper change allows the RPA-2 to be powered by DC on the feedline While many other common preamplifiers suffer from harmonic distortion, RPA-2 Modular Receive Preamplifiers include our exclusive, advanced push-pull design that eliminates harmonic distortion. Their high quiescent current increases their ability to handle strong signals without distortion or overload. These high performance devices must be powered with a well filtered and regulated DC power supply and will offer maximum performance at 12 to 18 Vdc input. Please do not use a cheap wall transformer or noisy switching wall-wart to power these top-of-the-line preamplifiers. Indoor installation at the back of the radio is recommended for RPA-2. For those who want to place them in an enclosure at a receive antenna system, a handy internal jumper allows these new units to be powered on the coaxial cable. RPA-2 Receive Preamplifier Specifications: -Input and Output Connectors, female: BNC and F -Frequency Range: 300 kHz to 35 MHz -Gain: 16 dB, +/- 1.5 dB (over entire frequency range) -Output Third Order Intercept: 43 dBm -Noise Figure: 3.5 dB -One dB Compression Point: +26 dBm (400 mW output) -Dynamic Range, IM3: 110 dB or greater (500 Hz bandwidth) -Power Requirement: 12-18 Vdc, 140 mA max. DX Engineering NOISELOOP Portable Receive Flag Antenna Kit

DX Engineering NOISELOOP Portable Receive Flag Antenna Kit is based on the design by Don Kirk, WD8DSB. Don's article on this antenna is published in the March 2021 issue of QST Magazine (used by permission). The DXE-NOISELOOP is a kit of parts to build this receive-only portable directional HF loop antenna, which measures only 48 by 24 inches plus 36 inches of mast-handle. It may be used while walking or stationary with your portable HF receiver. Oriented vertically, this loop antenna features a cardioid pattern at the horizon with a deep null of up to 30 dB rejection. It is an excellent tool for locating noise sources from 1.8 through 30 MHz and for low-noise, general coverage reception from the AM broadcast band through 30 MHz. An optional Preamplifier-Attenuator Unit, DXE-NL-PRE-ATT-1, may be attached to the loop mast handle for enhanced operations. An IC-705, a portable SW or a handheld HF receiver are excellent choices for searching for local noise sources with the NOISELOOP, around the neighborhood and even around your own home. This Portable Flag Antenna Kit includes everything needed to make the antenna: fiberglass tubing for the frame and handle, mounting plate, separate PC boards for the bifilar wound transformer and load resistor, antenna wire, coaxial cable with male BNC and stainless steel hardware. Simple hand tools and a solder iron are required for assembly. Included instructions detail assembly. This kit will typically take between 1 and 2 hours to build. The WD8DSB Portable Flag Antenna design has become a real game changer in direction finding of RFI on MF and HF frequencies, and you will also find it an invaluable tool when hunting RFI due to the following key features. *Unidirectional (unlike a tuned loop) *Broadband (unlike a tuned loop, excellent for AM DXing, SWL and Amateur) *Portable (easy to walk with while directional noise finding or HF Fox Hunting) Traditionally Flag antennas are large and designed for stationary use, but the idea for this antenna was to design a Portable Flag. It was designed to be the largest possible (to maximize gain) that would fit inside a car and it's still small enough to maintain a cardioid pattern up through 30 MHz. The portable Flag has an approximate dimension of 2 feet tall by 4 feet long which you (or a helper) can easily walk with while tracking down a signal. Unlike a tuned loop, the Portable Flag is a broadband antenna with unidirectional properties, and it's designed for direction finding from 1.8 to 30 MHz as long as an appropriate preamp is used. It's even useful for direction finding down in the AM broadcast band. The rear of the antenna produces a sharp null when pointed at the signal of interest and the sharp null is often used for direction finding versus using the broad peak which occurs when the front of the antenna is pointed at the signal of interest. Learn more about how to build this antenna kit by clicking on More Detail and the Documentation link for the Instruction Manual. DX Engineering Receive Feedline Voltage Injectors

DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Injectors, DXE-FVI-1, are high-quality bias-tee devices that place direct current onto a receive antenna system's coaxial cable while preventing DC from reaching the Radio port. These FVI-1 voltage injectors are used to power active accessory devices, such remote relays, switching systems, and preamplifiers. These are the original equipment FVI-1 units provided with single DX Engineering Active Receive Vertical antenna models. Voltage is applied via the 2.1mm power connector to the receive antenna feedline F connector. The RCA phono jack connects to the receiver input with that DC voltage blocked, while passing RF from 100 kHz to 30 MHz. Various RCA phono plug adapters for different RF cable connectors are available in Suggested Parts. Two DXE-FVI-1 feedline voltage injectors may be connected at opposite ends of a feedline to provide DC voltage on the transmission line for your own custom application, keeping the input and output RF devices isolated from the voltage. The included 120V AC 60 Hz wall transformer power supply may be connected to the 2.1mm power connector may to place approximately +12 volts DC on the coaxial cable center conductor, with the coaxial cable shield used as the negative ground return. A different station power supply, 1-16 VDC, may be used with an in-line, 1 Ampere, fast-blow fuse for various devices. DX Engineering feedline voltage injectors are ready for your "DC power on the coax" needs! DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules

DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules provide frequency-specific receiving system enhancements, which fit into special DX Engineering devices listed below. These advanced plug-in filter modules are available separately to allow any user to create a specific or customized filter with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass frequency ranges. Filter cut-off and center frequencies correspond to the major Amateur bands, 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, with filter module insertion loss of only about 1dB. By reducing or excluding frequency-specific interfering noise and signals, the noise floor can be lowered for the desired passband for dramatically improved reception DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules may be installed in these devices: DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis accepts one or two filter modules to create a stand-alone passive inline filter unit of any configuration. One high pass and one low pas can be combined to create a multi-band bandpass filter of any HF range. DXE-RPA-2-PM Modular Receive Preamplifier accepts one Receive Filter Plug-In Module to customize the preamplifier passband. DXE-NCC-2 Receive Phasing Controller can accept one or two Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, one into each, Channel A and Channel B. The DX Engineering NCC-2 is highly regarded by many owners and engineers to be the best receive phasing and noise canceling unit available and is used extensively by enthusiasts in Amateur Radio DXing, Contesting, AM DXing, and Short-Wave Listening (SWL), and is also used in commercial AM and HF broadcast applications. DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules add an extra dimension of functionality to the NCC-2, for advanced directional noise and signal nulling performance, enhanced with a specific frequency range operations. By default, NCC-2 internal option slots have bypass boards to pass all signals. Receive Filters placed into these slots dedicate the unit to filtered operation. Typically, one pair of band-pass or high-pass or low-pass filters, depending on desired filtering, is installed in the NCC-2 to suit the specific signal rejection needs of the discerning operator. As an example, an 80 meter DX enthusiast may elect to install two 80 meter band pass Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, part number DXE-R-BP80-PM, into their NCC-2 Channel A and Channel B middle slots. This dedicates their NCC-2 to 80 meter-only operations. This dramatically reduces noise and signals from outside the 80 meter band, very effectively excluding interference from nearby AM Broadcast, 160 and 40 meter stations. A much lower noise floor across 80 meters can help achieve reception of weak 80 meter DX signals. An additional pair of filters can be swapped out for a different band when desired. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. All Receive Filter Plug-In Modules displayed here are also conveniently listed on a single page linked in Documentation.

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10000 Buffer Amplifiers may be the products most often requested by radio experimenters and electronics enthusiasts. These are the very popular circuits, designed by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), that are crucial for adding a SDR receiver and panadapter display capabilities to a receiver or transceiver which lacks that feature. The Z10000 Buffer Amplifier's high-input impedance can safely tap the early-stage broadband Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal from inside your radio and feed the buffered and amplified low impedance IF signal to your external SDR receiver. It can then produce a spectrumscope - waterfall display pattern of the receiver signals on a compatible tablet or monitor and PC that is running the appropriate third party SDR software. DX Engineering offers two Clifton Labs Buffer Amplifier Kits to add an IF output SMA connector to the rear panel of your radio: * The DXE-Z10000U-KIT is the Universal Buffer Amplifier Kit that covers 50 kHz to 100 MHz. This kit is designed for those willing to do an internal modification, and will output the IF signal of virtually any receiver or transceiver that has an IF in that range. However, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT can be used as a buffer and low-gain preamp between any low level RF devices that operate in that range. As a buffer, this circuit provides over 90dB of reverse isolation to protect the IF stages of the radio from possible birdies on an SDR receiver input. So, even if your radio has an IF output connector, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT may be used externally, with a user-supplied shielded metal enclosure, to be certain to maintain proper radio operation. * The DXE-Z10000K2-KIT is the Buffer Amplifier Kit specifically tuned to the 4.915 MHz IF signal of the Elecraft K2 transceiver. It offers the same high reverse isolation, plus the added benefit of a tuned IF input with a narrower bandwidth of operation and a potentially a lower noise floor on the output. Both Buffer Amp kits contain the updated, completely assembled and tested DX Engineering Z10000C PC Board with a nominal 6.5 dB gain, retaining all the benefits of the reliable original Z10000B boards. Both kits include our finished printed circuit board, required coaxial cables assemblies with special connectors, insulating materials, and hardware—all for an easier installation than ever before! A third party SDR receiver, software (typically free) and compatible tablet or PC and monitor are required to make use of the IF signal provided by the Z10000 Buffer Amplifier and see the signals that your old radio can hear. Due to the high number of specialized radio installations, no printed instructions are included with these buffer kits. Instructional web links are found on the part detail webpages. Installation web documents and videos are only available online. The legacy that was built by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), with Clifton Laboratories, lives on with select products, exclusively from DX Engineering. NOTE: DX Engineering cannot provide electronic technical support of devices installed in user radios and is not responsible or liable for damages that occur to a user radio due to improper or erroneous techniques during the installation of this product. Unplug all electronic devices when working on them and observe all electrical safety and electrostatic discharge precautions when opening sensitive electronics. Modification of a radio should only be attempted by individuals with advanced experience on electronic circuit repair and operation.

DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems

Imagine adjusting the controls to knock out strong interfering stations or noise—and then being able to copy and log that weak DX station. By successfully combining the right antennas with the advanced phasing capabilities of the NCC-2, this is the operating thrill that every radio enthusiast can enjoy, again and again! DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems are variable phasing controllers that combine the 300 kHz- 30MHz received signals from one transmit antenna and one receive antenna, or from two dedicated receive antennas. Combining signals from two stationary antennas physically spaced 1/10 to 1/2 wavelength apart creates an array pattern with signal peaks and dips called nulls. Adjusting the NCC-2 Phase and Balance controls have the effect of electronically rotating or steering that pattern. Steering the null direction to significantly weaken a local or distant interfering signal or noise is known as "Noise Cancelling." This "Noise Cancelling Controller" (NCC-2) can dramatically enhance the reception of weak signals from non-null directions. This "reverse-beam" capability on radio frequencies AM Broadcast through HF can provide amazing benefits for many types of AM DX and SWL receiving and ham radio operating. Work new DX, hear the weak station in casual regional conversations, snag the rare multiplier in contests and hear beyond the noise and interference in dire circumstances. DX Engineering NCC-2 Phasing Systems now feature the built-in RTR Receive-Transmit Interface relay system that expands the exciting benefits of antenna phasing for interference reduction in two ways: * First, the NCC-2 can combine signals from the HF transmit antenna and a separate receive antenna to effectively notch-out strong stations or noise. Almost any Amateur can now enjoy the benefits of antenna phasing and noise-nulling, even those with space limitations for separating the receiving and transmitting antennas. * Second, the user of any standard HF transceiver that lacks a separate receive antenna input can have enhanced reception of noise and signal nulling with the DXE-NCC-2 and two antennas. Rear panel SO-239, F and BNC connectors make the NCC-2 extremely versatile and easy to connect to almost any receiver or HF transceiver up to 200 watts. Redesigned with plug-in modular circuit board sockets, the NCC-2 includes one switched and powered internal slot and two passive internal slots per channel to accommodate these new options: * DXE-RPA-2-PM Receive Preamplifier Plug-In Modules (powered): one per channel for low-signal passive antennas with poor ground conditions * DXE-RG5000HD-PM Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module (passive): Front-end protection for the NCC-2 and the receiver * DXE-IT-PM 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Plug-In Module (passive): to match 75 ohm RX ANT feedlines to NCC-2 50 ohm internal impedance * NCC-2 Receive Filter Sets (passive, non-switchable): High Pass, Band Pass and Low Pass Filters for 160, 80, 40 meters typically in stock, with other band filters available individually by special order. DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems offer these new additional benefits: * Multi-Color Status Indicating LEDs for Power, RTR Mode and Preamp Power CH A and CH B * New Radio Key Line Input with RX Enable Output-RTR Failsafe to prevent RF damage to NCC-2 and RX equipment * New ACC Key Line Output RCA female 'ground on transmit' pass-through for Amplifier or Accessory * New screw-on 2.1mm DC connector to prevent accidental power cable pull-out * Operates on +13.8VDC @ 2A input to power the NCC-2 and internally jumper set Bias Tee on each RX ANT ports for coax fed Active Verticals and other accessories. DX Engineering RF Attenuators

DX Engineering RF Attenuators are used inline with receiving equipment for testing purposes. An inline attenuator will limit the RF input to preamplifier to prevent overload or be used to pad the output of a high gain preamp to an appropriate level. Adding an inline attenuator to a receiver input allows determination of accuracy of s-meter readings on transceivers with a constant RF input signal source. Sometimes, the level of low power RF equipment needs to be reduced for measurement or to obtain the proper input level to an amplification device, such as with QRP equipment. Specifications of impedance, attenuation, power handling and connectors appear on the part number description. Order inline RF Attenuators for your test bench or shack from DX Engineering.

DX Engineering MBS-4 Multi-Band Splitters

As opposed to standard four-port splitters, DX Engineering MBS-4 Multi-Band Splitters have been specially designed to pass signals from the bottom of the AM broadcast band (500 kHz) to beyond the top of the satellite radio band (2.4 GHz) and do it with low-loss. With such a wide pass-band they are very useful for implementing whole-house and commercial RF distribution networks supplying signals that are used in all types of entertainment systems. These signals could include AM/FM HD radio, VHF/UHF digital television, satellite radio and Wi-Fi. ANY signal frequency within the pass-band may be split to multiple locations! DXE-MBS-4 splitters are also designed to pass DC between their input and one of the output ports via protection diodes that prevent DC feedback. This allows powered amplifiers and antennas to receive power-feed through the splitters. RF insertion loss for these splitters is up to 12-dB. However, they may be used in tandem with wideband preamps to implement a lossless system! These splitters are not recommended for use in stand-alone satellite radio splitter configurations without additional external amplification and DC impedance terminations of unused ports. Whether you are wiring a living room, den, bedroom and sunroom, or a building with multiple offices, these DX Engineering MBS-4 Multi-Band Splitters are at the core of your signal-distribution network!

DX Engineering Time Variable Sequencer Units

DX Engineering Time Variable Sequencer Units are microprocessor-based transmit/receive control signal-delay units. They can provide 0-30 milliseconds of delay, programmable in 2 milliseconds increments, to as many as five different outputs tied to your CW keying or push-to-talk (PTT) lines. By controlling the receive-to-transmit (and back) timing of linear amplifiers, and other sensitive equipment, damage caused by improper switch timing may be avoided. These DX Engineering TVSUs improve CW performance by eliminating the annoying leading-edge chopping or truncating of Morse characters, especially important in contests or pileups, where sending accuracy is critical. Now RoHS-compliant, they may also control external devices, such as preamps, active antennas, or external relays that need to have power removed during transmit. Separate power-in and power-out jacks on the front panel are used to control external power. Two 2.1mm power plugs and two 3.5mm stereo plugs are provided. Additional TVSU features include: * Control timing of PTT turn-on, hang delay of PTT, amplifier hang delay, external antenna relay hang delay, and turn-on delay of auxiliary output * Dip switch settable delays of 0-30ms in 2ms increments * Side tone generator that follows input of keyer or hand key, not transmitter * Side tone pitch can be programmed from 300 to 1,000 Hz in 50 Hz steps * Front panel headphone jack with adjustable volume * Supports CW full break-in * Can control external power to DX Engineering active receive antennas and thereby permit operation in closer proximity to transmit antennas Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. To make sure that all of your equipment keeps safely in step, use one of these DX Engineering Time Variable Sequencer Units!
