DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes

The present-day DX Engineering was launched in the year 2000. To celebrate our 20th Anniversary in the year 2020 we have developed a new line of Baluns and Feedline Chokes. Introducing DX Engineering "Maxi-Core® 20" Baluns and Feedline Chokes. They reduce or eliminate currents on the outside of your feedline allowing you to hear and to be heard much better. They keep more RFI/BCI out of your antenna and receiver and transfer more of your transmitted signal to the antenna for higher efficiency, the best antenna pattern and maximum performance. Signaling a new era of RF performance across the 1.8 to 54 MHz frequency range, DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes handle full-legal-power-plus and provide higher common mode impedance (CMI) across a greater frequency range than competing models and even previous DX Engineering and Comtek models. Years of R&D coupled with major advancements in test equipment and techniques combined with custom ferrite materials have allowed our engineering team to design the DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes. Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Chokes have high CMI across the AM Broadcast band and the HF/6M spectrum, which is essential to provide sufficient suppression of unwanted transmitted and received RFI/BCI current on the feedline shield exterior. Hear and be heard with DXE Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes. Choose superior performance from these models: * DXE-MC20-1-1 Maxi-Core® 20 - 1:1 Current Choke Balun - For all HF-6m balanced antennas with a 50 ohm feedpoint, including resonant dipoles, loops, Yagis, beams, etc. * DXE-MC20-FC Maxi-Core® 20 - 1:1 Feedline Choke – This high CMI line isolator is perfect for use in line on 50 ohm coaxial feedlines, at the antenna, tower or shack end of the feedline. * DXE-MC20-1-1T Maxi-Core® 20 - 1:1 Current Choke Balun – This 1:1 "T" model is for force feeding antennas with a tuner. Use it at the end of ladder line of any impedance or mounted on a coax fed non-resonant antenna. This model tolerates operation at high SWR on non-resonant multi-band antennas. * DXE-MC20-C4-1 Maxi-Core® 20 - 4:1 Current Choke Balun is for use on antennas with a 200 ohm feedpoint and at the end of any impedance ladder line, especially on antenna systems with higher impedance. This model tolerates operation at high SWR on non-resonant multi-band antennas. * DXE-MC20-V4-1 Maxi-Core® 20 - 4:1 Voltage Balun is a 200 ohm to 50 ohm transformer for use on random long-wire and OCF antenna applications. This true voltage balun is intentionally designed with low CMI for antennas that need a transformer without RF choking for easier antenna tuner operation and it tolerates elevated SWR. Maxi-Core® 20 Baluns and Feedline Chokes are built into a convenient weather resistant NEMA enclosure that is mounted easily with optional brackets. They feature 1/4-20 stainless steel hardware and a high quality silver-plated PTFE dielectric SO-239 (UHF female) input connector. The SO-239 connector limits power handling to 5 kW at low SWR and reduced power at elevated SWR. These baluns and the feedline choke exhibit very low insertion loss and inherently low SWR. Optional mounting brackets are available for use on wire antennas or for verticals, Yagi and beam antennas. See the Suggested Parts tab after clicking "More Detail" on the model of interest. Combination packages that include balun or choke and mounting bracket are also available.

DX Engineering Receiver Guard Electronic RF Limiters

DX Engineering Receiver Guard RG5000HD Electronic RF Limiters are the best choice of inline devices to protect your receiver antenna inputs. The Receiver Guard is a receive antenna input limiter specifically designed to protect a sensitive receiver front-end against high levels of RF and potential damage. At the heart of each Receiver Guard is a highly effective electronic RF limiter covering 500 kHz to 150 MHz with an insertion loss under 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz and under 0.30 dB up to 150 MHz. The multi-stage design includes a gas discharge tube for maximum pulse energy protection. The DXE-RG5000HD rejects 10 watts of catastrophic receive antenna feedline RF while passing a maximum signal of about 87 dB over S-9, which is only 25 mw, a signal level that is well below the point of front end damage. Receiver Guards are a must for multiple radio contesting stations and they provide low-cost front-end "insurance." Use them in these common high-RF situations: - Receive antennas in very close proximity to transmit antennas - Field-day operations with many transmitters in close range - Multi-transmitter contesting sites - Neighboring Amateur and CB operators - Frequent high-power mobile encounters Extensively tested and proven in real-world stations, the Receiver Guard works for all radios and offers the ultimate performance required by the upper tier of transceivers tested to have the best narrow-spaced third-order dynamic range or published RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range). These are passive electronic limiters, so competitive contesting stations use separate band filters in addition to the Receiver Guard. When there are high levels of RF on your receive antennas, the DX Engineering Receiver Guard generates far less harmonic noise than other limiters on the market, which allows your station to continue to operate safely and competitively. At normal HF signal levels the RG5000HD operates continuously with no effect on the performance of your station while providing the best possible protection for your radio. Here are key Receiver Guard features: * Keeps stray high levels of RF from damaging your receiver input * Ideal for separate 160 and/or 80 meter receive systems with large pulse and RF energy capture area * Uses state of the art components for maximum protection of receivers * Under 6 ns response time * Multi-Stage protection * Very low insertion loss * Uses BNC type connectors to avoid accidental connection to a transmit feedline * Has been developed and tested in world-recognized multi-multi contest station K3LR Specifications - DX Engineering Receiver Guard model DXE-RG-5000HD - Frequency Range: 0.5 through 150 MHz - Insertion Loss: < 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz, < 0.3 dB 50 MHz up to 150 MHz - VSWR: < 1.2:1 - Maximum Output Level at 10 W input: +14 dBm (0.025 W) - Maximum Power Handling: 10 W CCS (Continuous Commercial Service) - Device Impedance: 50 to 75 ohms, unbalanced - Connectors, Input and Output: BNC female Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. What happens if the receive antenna is extremely close to the transmit antenna, or there is an antenna support or other system failure that causes a high RF level to enter the receive antenna input? A DX Engineering Receiver Guard can save the day! Order yours now.

DX Engineering UCGC-Z Universal Copper Grounding Clamps

DX Engineering Universal Copper Grounding Clamps, model DXE-UCGC-Z, are custom designed to provide a ground rod mounting solution for various types of lightning protectors commonly used for Amateur Radio. The "Z" design makes it easy to install and remove coaxial cable connectors. This ground rod clamp for surge protector mounting is ideal for permanent installations as well as for temporary installations, such as Field Day. The DXE-UCGC-Z Copper Grounding Clamp Features: - Mounts up to six protectors onto one ground rod - Fits common standard 5/8 in. through 3/4 in. diameter ground rods - Made from 1/16 in. thick Copper Alloy 110 for maximum conductivity -"Z" bends in the copper for easier installation and removal of coax connectors on protectors - Easy to assemble two-piece construction. Each plate is approximately 3-1/4 in. wide x 4-3/16 in. tall - Stainless Steel hardware is included: Four 1/4 in.-20 x 3/4 in. long hex head bolts, eight 1/4 in. flat washers, four 1/4 in.-20 Nyloc hex nuts - Using this copper clamp is faster and easier than building up the joint for an exothermic weld The DXE-UCGC-Z can easily mount up to six lightning protectors. The photo shows two DX Engineering and two PolyPhaser lightning protectors installed on a DXE-UCGC-Z mounted to a 5/8 in. diameter ground rod. Other lightning protection products can also be mounted, such as the DXE-IS-RCT Control Line Protector and Alpha Delta Lightning Protectors. Additionally, a solid copper strap from the station grounding bus bar may also be sandwiched between the copper plates of this clamp and the ground rod (not shown). An anti-seize compound such as JTL-12555 Jet Lube SS-30 Pure Copper Anti-Seize must be used on the threads to prevent galling or seizing of stainless steel hardware. All connections must be generously coated with a conductive joint compound to prevent moisture penetration and enhance conductivity. Properly weatherproofing coaxial cables and lightning protectors is important to ensure the longevity of the connection and maintain optimal performance. Prior to attaching the lightning protectors, install the coaxial cables to the lightning protectors and weather seal the PL-259 connectors using TES-2155 Temflex Rubber Sealing Tape with an overwrap of TES-06132 3M Super 33+ Vinyl Tape or 3M Scotch Super 88 Premium Vinyl Tape (TES-06143). These easily removable connector sealing tapes are now available in kits. The lightning protector bodies are not weatherproof and it is suggested to use a DX Engineering Weatherproofing Kits to permanently cover the body of the protectors. Some users have also suggested covering the entire assembly with a plastic food container or plastic trash bin As with all electronic equipment, take proper safety considerations. For example: Do not install if there is a storm anywhere in your area. Do not adjust or touch the grounding system equipment when there is a storm anywhere in your area. Make sure all power is removed before making any adjustments or working on any ground system or grounding components. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Complete your coaxial cable grounding installation with DX Engineering UCGC-Z Universal Copper Grounding Clamps.

DX Engineering Glass Antenna Insulators

Sometimes the oldest stuff turns out to be the best. Our exclusive DX Engineering Glass Antenna Insulators hearken back to the earliest years of "wireless" transmissions. Because Irish ship builders of the day pronounced "double" as "dooble," these insulators were once known as "glass doobies" due to their tempered-glass material and double-ended form. Glass insulators offer the highest of electrical insulation properties, strength and resilience available in any insulator of its size. There will be no signal bleed off with these little glass wonders! DX Engineering's DXE-TGI-2 end insulators are 3.69 in. long with 1.125 in. diameter double ends. Each smoothed and rounded end has a 5/16 in. (0.3125 in.) hole that will accommodate many wire and rope sizes without chafing. Their tensile strength and resistance to arcing will withstand almost any wire-antenna use within the Amateur Radio service, domestic or abroad. Since these are end insulators, they are sold as a pair. These are not toy-like models or replica insulators; these are fully functional, high strength glass insulators with excellent RF properties! But, that is not to say that they aren't gorgeous and worthy of showing off! They certainly are perfect for display as a radio room decoration or as a living area conversation piece. Very smooth and pleasing to the touch, these are attractive glass insulators that make a fantastic gift for the ham who thought he had everything! Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. In this instance, some interesting information on "Glass Doobies." Bring back a bit of the essence of the Amateur Radio of yesteryear in your wire antenna construction. These glass insulators are actually quite striking in their appearance. DX Engineering Telescoping Aluminum Antenna Tubing Kits

DX Engineering ATK65A Telescoping Aluminum Antenna Tubing Kits employ twelve aluminum tubes that may be used as rope-guyed vertical radiators. Intended for portable or temporary operations, these kits may also be used in a well-guyed permanent vertical antenna installation. They're a good DIY vertical antenna element for Field Day, DXpeditions, RVs, SOTA, camping, and more. Guying is required (three or four levels of rope guys are needed when these kits are extended beyond a 30 ft. height), so guy rings are included. ATK65A kits consist of 11- 6-ft. sections and one 3-ft. section of DX Engineering's rugged 6063-T832 drawn aluminum tubing. The kit also includes all required stainless steel element clamps. The bottom section is the 2.0-in. outside-diameter heavy-wall (0.120 in. thick) that mates up to 2-1/8 in. diameter tubing with an 8 in. overlap, and then back to 2-in. diameter tubing with a 5 in. overlap. Each sections continues the element taper down to 7/8-in. diameter at the top. The overall length of the assembled sections can reach up to 780 inches, or 65 feet. These kits are well suited as vertical radiators for your custom-designed single vertical antenna or in multiples in a two or four element array. They may be set to resonate on any HF band at any length up to 65 feet by simply removing or telescoping the sections and clamping them at the desired length. NOTE: This vertical antenna tubing kit is NOT intended to be used as a support for other antennas. Also keep in mind that vertical elements typically require counterpoise or radial wires emanating from the feedpoint for proper function. Erection of this thin-wall aluminum tubing element is a multi-helper, simultaneous push-up and pull-on guy lines process. See the instructions for details. For additional product information, please look at the files under the "Documentation" tab. Whether you use them as a stack of aluminum for your experimentation or as quarter-wave resonant vertical element, DX Engineering ATK65A Telescoping Aluminum Antenna Tubing Kits provide the most economical path to building your own designs!

DX Engineering Logo UltrAtomic® Wall Clocks

DX Engineering Logo UltrAtomic® Wall Clocks feature dramatically improved reception and reliability, to automatically set and keep time, even at daylight saving time changes. Excellent readability and attractive styling make this special DX Engineering 14 inch analog clock a great addition to any Amateur Radio station, office complex, school or home. The UltrAtomic receives the enhanced phase modulated WWVB broadcast signal introduced by NIST in 2012. This advanced technology allows the radio time signal to "break through" barriers like cement walls, unlike previous PWM only Atomic clocks. This is the DX Engineering version of the La Crosse Technology wall clock that was the first on the market to be based on this enhanced broadcast, offering unparalleled reception. UltrAtomic clocks operate even in the harshest conditions, where the signal-to-noise ratio interferes with radio-controlled clock reception using the legacy AM signal broadcast. UltrAtomic technology digitally processes the received signal via an integrated circuit within the clock. It leverages the advanced modulation scheme and new data encoding. The reception reliability of the technology has been validated in the most challenging locations and scenarios and has been demonstrated successfully throughout all of North America. UltrAtomic clocks allow you to select any time zone with a custom setting, especially UTC/GMT. Now you can enjoy UltrAtomic accuracy, while viewing any time zone around the world. The phase modulated WWVB broadcast provided by the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) includes a notification for the daylight savings time transitions well ahead of when they are to occur. The UltrAtomic clock reads and stores this information and, at the appropriate instance, automatically advances the hands one hour in the spring and eleven hours in the fall (to move back one hour), even if the signal is not received on the day of the transition. * UltrAtomic time with manual set option * Barrier-resistant signal reception with dual antenna that is insensitive to orientation * Adjustable time and zone (24 hour World Time) from UTC+0h to -11h * Eco Mode extends battery life--turns second hand off from 11 pm to 5 am * Q-Mode (Quartz Mode) for manual time setting * Automatically updates for daylight saving time (with DST On/Off option) * 14 in. stainless steel frame bezel * Glass lens * Black metal hands and black numerals on white background * Low battery detection indicator--second hand stops at 6 * Powered by 2 or 4 high-quality "C" LR14 batteries (not included) for up to 3 or 6 years of operation in Eco Mode

DX Engineering Lightning Rod Kits

The use of DX Engineering Lightning Rod Mast Mounts could protect your tower, antennas and station equipment from disastrous lightning damage. DX Engineering Lightning Rod Mast Mounts are 1/8 in. heavy-duty stainless steel clamps that will long outlast your steel tower. Their optional bolts (choose DXE-LRMM-FAST by combined mast and lightning rod diameters) are also high-quality stainless steel. Together, they are extremely durable clamps to keep your lightning rod in place. Lightning searches out the path of least resistance to ground. If that path is your tower, rotator and rotor bearings, antennas and coax, or the ground and electrical connections to your rigs, then that's where it will go. Providing a better path (one with very little resistance) is the key to keeping lightning outside the shack and limiting damage. When used with proper tower grounding, a heavy rotor-bearing bypass cable and installed coaxial surge protectors, a lightning rod above your antennas may save the day. Don't ignore proper grounding and lightning protection! Make a list of all the items you need to upgrade your station's lightning defense. Make sure a mast mounted lightning rod and DX Engineering Lightning Rod Mast Mounts are added to your list.

DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas

DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas: Near Vertical Incidence Skywave (NVIS) is a propagation mode which uses high-angle radiation that sends signals almost straight up! They are then reflected back to Earth for very effective short to medium distance communications that works virtually every day and into the evening. NVIS dipoles are almost Omni-directional and their height requirement is for the feedpoint to be at only 15 feet above the ground! These 80 and 40 meter wire antennas work very well with their feedpoint at only 15 feet above the ground, supported by the included mast, or your own non-metallic support. The ropes tied to the wire dipole end-insulators are used as guys for the support mast, and are secured to the ground with four tent pegs. DXE-NVIS-8040S and the DXE-NVIS-8040 antenna kits are complete with everything required; the fiberglass mast (four, 4 ft. sections that extend to 15 ft.), a DX Engineering Maxi-Core® 20 1:1 Balun, model DXE-MC20-1-1T, a balun mounting kit, coax strain relief bracket, antenna wire, insulators, four tent pegs, rope, and a 100 ft. RG-8X coax assembly with PL-259s! The four legs of the antenna, each deployed 90 degrees apart, provide the mast guying. DXE-NVIS-8040SNM and the DXE-NVIS-8040NM antenna kits are exactly the same kits with everything except the 15 ft. fiberglass mast. Use your own non-metallic mast or hang the feedpoint 15 ft. above the ground from the limb of a tree. The DXE-NVIS-8040S and DXE-NVIS-8040SNM are shortened NVIS wire antenna kit version that features loading coils to make the 80 meter dipole legs the same length as the 40 meter dipole legs, 34 ft., so this antenna fits into a square area that is only about 50 ft. by 50 ft. The DXE-NVIS-8040 and DXE-NVIS-8040NM are full size, with 67 ft. wire dipole antenna legs for 80 meters and 34 ft. legs for 40 meters and it fits into a rectangular area approximately 100 ft. by 50 ft. NVIS rarely works at frequencies outside the range of 2 MHz to 10 MHz. The signal must penetrate the D layer of the ionosphere and bounce off the F layer. Signals on frequencies below 2 MHz will not penetrate the D layer; frequencies higher than 10 MHz will not bounce off the F layer at these sharp angles, they penetrate and continue out into space. Regular-height dipoles or vertical antennas have a lower take off angle and your signal may be heard three states away, but not in your own state due to the "skip zone." This skip zone is the area between the maximum ground wave distance and the shortest sky wave distance where no communications are possible. Depending on operating frequencies, antennas, their height above ground and propagation conditions, this skip zone can start at roughly 10 to 20 miles away and extend out to several hundred miles. NVIS mode of operation makes it ideal for in-state and next state communications during disasters or other emergency situations. The military has used NVIS techniques for decades to provide short haul communication with other units on the ground. This is why these antennas are ideal for round-table gatherings with regional ham friends on 40 and 80 meters, day to day and night after night. These antennas are easy to deploy and are great for camping, RVs, QRP, ARES, EMCOMM, State QSO Parties and Parks On The Air (POTA) and any other uses where short range HF operation on 80 or 40 meters is desirable. They are actually pretty stealthy, too! Due to their near vertical radiation, NVIS dipoles are almost Omni-directional. They even have a legal-limit power rating! Remember, Amateur Radio operators look to 80 and 40 meters for short skip NVIS operations. Order DX Engineering 8040 NVIS Antennas and fill in the skip zone!

DX Engineering Portable VHF/UHF Antenna Mounts

Designed for rapid deployment in portable operations, the DXE-MOBILEPORT-U is the ideal solution for mounting VHF/UHF or GMRS vertical antennas in the field. Whether you're camping, participating in Field Day, supporting EmComm activities, or setting up a temporary station, this mounting plate simplifies antenna setup in challenging environments. The center hole is sized to fit over collapsible masts like the DXE Nomad fiberglass mast, providing a stable and secure base. Four outer holes serve dual purposes: they can anchor guy lines for mast stabilization and support soldered wires to create a ground plane—if your antenna requires one. However, for best performance and simplicity, a no-ground-plane-required antenna is recommended. Compact, lightweight, and versatile, the DX Engineering MOBILEPORT-U Portable VHF/UHF Antenna Mounts are a must-have for any portable antenna deployment kit. Important Note: This mounting plate is intended for use with fiberglass masts only. Carbon fiber masts are not recommended, as they may interfere with RF signals and cause SWR issues due to their conductive properties.
