DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems

Imagine adjusting the controls to knock out strong interfering stations or noise—and then being able to copy and log that weak DX station. By successfully combining the right antennas with the advanced phasing capabilities of the NCC-2, this is the operating thrill that every radio enthusiast can enjoy, again and again! DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems are variable phasing controllers that combine the 300 kHz- 30MHz received signals from one transmit antenna and one receive antenna, or from two dedicated receive antennas. Combining signals from two stationary antennas physically spaced 1/10 to 1/2 wavelength apart creates an array pattern with signal peaks and dips called nulls. Adjusting the NCC-2 Phase and Balance controls have the effect of electronically rotating or steering that pattern. Steering the null direction to significantly weaken a local or distant interfering signal or noise is known as "Noise Cancelling." This "Noise Cancelling Controller" (NCC-2) can dramatically enhance the reception of weak signals from non-null directions. This "reverse-beam" capability on radio frequencies AM Broadcast through HF can provide amazing benefits for many types of AM DX and SWL receiving and ham radio operating. Work new DX, hear the weak station in casual regional conversations, snag the rare multiplier in contests and hear beyond the noise and interference in dire circumstances. DX Engineering NCC-2 Phasing Systems now feature the built-in RTR Receive-Transmit Interface relay system that expands the exciting benefits of antenna phasing for interference reduction in two ways: * First, the NCC-2 can combine signals from the HF transmit antenna and a separate receive antenna to effectively notch-out strong stations or noise. Almost any Amateur can now enjoy the benefits of antenna phasing and noise-nulling, even those with space limitations for separating the receiving and transmitting antennas. * Second, the user of any standard HF transceiver that lacks a separate receive antenna input can have enhanced reception of noise and signal nulling with the DXE-NCC-2 and two antennas. Rear panel SO-239, F and BNC connectors make the NCC-2 extremely versatile and easy to connect to almost any receiver or HF transceiver up to 200 watts. Redesigned with plug-in modular circuit board sockets, the NCC-2 includes one switched and powered internal slot and two passive internal slots per channel to accommodate these new options: * DXE-RPA-2-PM Receive Preamplifier Plug-In Modules (powered): one per channel for low-signal passive antennas with poor ground conditions * DXE-RG5000HD-PM Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module (passive): Front-end protection for the NCC-2 and the receiver * DXE-IT-PM 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Plug-In Module (passive): to match 75 ohm RX ANT feedlines to NCC-2 50 ohm internal impedance * NCC-2 Receive Filter Sets (passive, non-switchable): High Pass, Band Pass and Low Pass Filters for 160, 80, 40 meters typically in stock, with other band filters available individually by special order. DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems offer these new additional benefits: * Multi-Color Status Indicating LEDs for Power, RTR Mode and Preamp Power CH A and CH B * New Radio Key Line Input with RX Enable Output-RTR Failsafe to prevent RF damage to NCC-2 and RX equipment * New ACC Key Line Output RCA female 'ground on transmit' pass-through for Amplifier or Accessory * New screw-on 2.1mm DC connector to prevent accidental power cable pull-out * Operates on +13.8VDC @ 2A input to power the NCC-2 and internally jumper set Bias Tee on each RX ANT ports for coax fed Active Verticals and other accessories. Offering new and experienced radio enthusiasts the next level of reception enhancements, DX Engineering model NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems in use around the world!

DX Engineering NOISELOOP Portable Receive Flag Antenna Kit

DX Engineering NOISELOOP Portable Receive Flag Antenna Kit is based on the design by Don Kirk, WD8DSB. Don's article on this antenna is published in the March 2021 issue of QST Magazine (used by permission). The DXE-NOISELOOP is a kit of parts to build this receive-only portable directional HF loop antenna, which measures only 48 by 24 inches plus 36 inches of mast-handle. It may be used while walking or stationary with your portable HF receiver. Oriented vertically, this loop antenna features a cardioid pattern at the horizon with a deep null of up to 30 dB rejection. It is an excellent tool for locating noise sources from 1.8 through 30 MHz and for low-noise, general coverage reception from the AM broadcast band through 30 MHz. An optional Preamplifier-Attenuator Unit, DXE-NL-PRE-ATT-1, may be attached to the loop mast handle for enhanced operations. An IC-705, a portable SW or a handheld HF receiver are excellent choices for searching for local noise sources with the NOISELOOP, around the neighborhood and even around your own home. This Portable Flag Antenna Kit includes everything needed to make the antenna: fiberglass tubing for the frame and handle, mounting plate, separate PC boards for the bifilar wound transformer and load resistor, antenna wire, coaxial cable with male BNC and stainless steel hardware. Simple hand tools and a solder iron are required for assembly. Included instructions detail assembly. This kit will typically take between 1 and 2 hours to build. The WD8DSB Portable Flag Antenna design has become a real game changer in direction finding of RFI on MF and HF frequencies, and you will also find it an invaluable tool when hunting RFI due to the following key features. *Unidirectional (unlike a tuned loop) *Broadband (unlike a tuned loop, excellent for AM DXing, SWL and Amateur) *Portable (easy to walk with while directional noise finding or HF Fox Hunting) Traditionally Flag antennas are large and designed for stationary use, but the idea for this antenna was to design a Portable Flag. It was designed to be the largest possible (to maximize gain) that would fit inside a car and it's still small enough to maintain a cardioid pattern up through 30 MHz. The portable Flag has an approximate dimension of 2 feet tall by 4 feet long which you (or a helper) can easily walk with while tracking down a signal. Unlike a tuned loop, the Portable Flag is a broadband antenna with unidirectional properties, and it's designed for direction finding from 1.8 to 30 MHz as long as an appropriate preamp is used. It's even useful for direction finding down in the AM broadcast band. The rear of the antenna produces a sharp null when pointed at the signal of interest and the sharp null is often used for direction finding versus using the broad peak which occurs when the front of the antenna is pointed at the signal of interest. Learn more about how to build this antenna kit by clicking on More Detail and the Documentation link for the Instruction Manual. DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 3 kW of RF power, DXE-LL450 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF. It is ideal for exceptionally long feedline runs and for low band wire antennas operated on multiple bands on which the feedpoint impedance can vary significantly, causing mismatch and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL450 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where antenna feedpoint impedance mismatches cause high SWR. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable when feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL450 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a high-quality flat RF feedline, about 0.938 in. wide (15/16") with two 16-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors (29 AWG x 19 strands) that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of around 400 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 91 percent. For proper performance, LL450 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL450 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, DXE-LL450 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-C4-1 4:1 Balun or a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax, not foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DXE-213U or DXE-214 Coaxial Cable Assemblies 12 or 18 ft. with PL-259s are perfect for this method, which eliminates the need for a special balanced tuner, and avoids the losses and detuning effects caused by unbalancing when ladder line is routed indoors near wires and ducts. DXE-LL450 is sold by the foot, previously sold as DXE-LL450-CTL, this is the same ladder line with a new part number. It is also available in spools of 500 ft. DXE-LL450-5C and 1,000 ft. DXE-LL450-1K, which are specified for DX Engineering Reversible Beverage System Antennas. NOTE: This type of feedline is intended for MF and HF use and is not suitable for use above 54 MHz. Also consider DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line, DXE-LL300, an excellent alternative low-loss HF feed line that reduces impedance extremes on non-resonant HF multiband antenna systems.

DX Engineering Ferrite

DX Engineering Ferrites are partially magnetic metal and ceramic mixes available in a variety of forms, including toroid core, bead type and plastic-covered split-bead ferrite called snap-beads. They are used in a myriad of RF suppression applications to mitigate RFI (radio frequency interference) as well as to reduce pulse and other types of RF noise interference. Special ferrites are used for experimentation and electronic circuit building and for making transformers, RF chokes and antenna baluns. The variations of magnetic and non-magnetic metals and non-metal ceramics used to make ferrites are called "Mixes" and each has different radio frequency properties or ranges. Therefore, different mix number ferrites are typically used for different applications within those ranges, determined by decades of experiments by engineers and applications by hams. Each Mix has been assigned a color code to help identify the ferrite, so numerical labeling is not used on the metal. Color coded ferrite can be identified long after the numbered package is discarded or has disintegrated with time. How do they work? Simply use snap-on beads on a cable or wire. An even more effective choke takes a few to several turns of a wire or cable through and around a ferrite snap-on bead or toroid core. This mitigates RFI to, or from, the connected RF noise producing or noise affected electronic device. The results can be very surprising. Solving noise and RFI can be frustrating. Due to the nature of RF and noise interference suppression; the techniques of appropriate use of ferrites can take a bit of trial and error, but are often the best solution for a difficult problem. Use DX Engineering Ferrite for an incredible range of electronic circuits, noise abatement and RF suppression projects. The details of DX Engineering Ferrite mixes and types appear in each product description. Sizes and applications are discussed in "More Details" and in the literature available at the "Documentation" tab of each of these products.

DX Engineering Receiver Guard Electronic RF Limiters

DX Engineering Receiver Guard RG5000HD Electronic RF Limiters are the best choice of inline devices to protect your receiver antenna inputs. The Receiver Guard is a receive antenna input limiter specifically designed to protect a sensitive receiver front-end against high levels of RF and potential damage. At the heart of each Receiver Guard is a highly effective electronic RF limiter covering 500 kHz to 150 MHz with an insertion loss under 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz and under 0.30 dB up to 150 MHz. The multi-stage design includes a gas discharge tube for maximum pulse energy protection. The DXE-RG5000HD rejects 10 watts of catastrophic receive antenna feedline RF while passing a maximum signal of about 87 dB over S-9, which is only 25 mw, a signal level that is well below the point of front end damage. Receiver Guards are a must for multiple radio contesting stations and they provide low-cost front-end "insurance." Use them in these common high-RF situations: - Receive antennas in very close proximity to transmit antennas - Field-day operations with many transmitters in close range - Multi-transmitter contesting sites - Neighboring Amateur and CB operators - Frequent high-power mobile encounters Extensively tested and proven in real-world stations, the Receiver Guard works for all radios and offers the ultimate performance required by the upper tier of transceivers tested to have the best narrow-spaced third-order dynamic range or published RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range). These are passive electronic limiters, so competitive contesting stations use separate band filters in addition to the Receiver Guard. When there are high levels of RF on your receive antennas, the DX Engineering Receiver Guard generates far less harmonic noise than other limiters on the market, which allows your station to continue to operate safely and competitively. At normal HF signal levels the RG5000HD operates continuously with no effect on the performance of your station while providing the best possible protection for your radio. Here are key Receiver Guard features: * Keeps stray high levels of RF from damaging your receiver input * Ideal for separate 160 and/or 80 meter receive systems with large pulse and RF energy capture area * Uses state of the art components for maximum protection of receivers * Under 6 ns response time * Multi-Stage protection * Very low insertion loss * Uses BNC type connectors to avoid accidental connection to a transmit feedline * Has been developed and tested in world-recognized multi-multi contest station K3LR Specifications - DX Engineering Receiver Guard model DXE-RG-5000HD - Frequency Range: 0.5 through 150 MHz - Insertion Loss: < 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz, < 0.3 dB 50 MHz up to 150 MHz - VSWR: < 1.2:1 - Maximum Output Level at 10 W input: +14 dBm (0.025 W) - Maximum Power Handling: 10 W CCS (Continuous Commercial Service) - Device Impedance: 50 to 75 ohms, unbalanced - Connectors, Input and Output: BNC female Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. (2.6m) aluminum tubing whip, insulated mounting plate and the completely new DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit. Its state-of-the-art broadband operational amplifier design works as a high-impedance buffer between the short antenna element and RG6U 75-ohm coax. When installed in the appropriate location, RSEAV antennas provide significantly better weak signal reception than other active receive antennas and full-size transmit-capable antennas, with substantially reduced noise and lower spurious signal interference. Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. They are sold individually (DXE-RSEAV-1), or with a bias tee (DXE-RSEAV-1FVI) and DXE-RSEAV-1 Receive Short Element Active Verticals set a new standard for "Active Receive Vertical Antennas" replacing legacy DXE-ARAV-3, ARAV-2, ARAV-1 and AL-24 versions. Use multiple DXE-RSEAV-1 for all 4 and 8 element DX Engineering Receive Arrays – all 3, 4 and 8 element Hi-Z Antennas Arrays – and 2 element receive arrays with DXE-NCC-2 and NCC-1 Variable Phasing Controllers. The DXE-RSEAV-1 is designed to be a very low-gain, low-noise antenna for greatly improved signal-to-noise performance over a very wide range of frequencies. In a proper single or multi-element array installation, this Receive Vertical antenna will attenuate high-angle skywave signals, which is the goal for a low band DXing receive antenna. Low-angle, long-range DX signals are easier to copy with a good radio and DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace or upgrade all the elements in the array with identical, fully compatible DXE-RSEAV-1 antennas or DXE-AVA-3 units.

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 2.5 kW of RF power, DXE-LL300 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF that is ideal for long feedline runs. It is an excellent feedline choice for a low band non-resonant wire antenna operated on multiple bands on which the impedance varies significantly, causing mismatches and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL300 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where impedance mismatches cause high SWR. The lower impedance of DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is actually better suited than 450 ohm ladder line for limiting the impedance extremes of non-resonant multiband antennas. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable for feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL300 Ladder Line is a flat, high-quality RF feedline, about 0.438 in. wide with two 18-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of 275 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 88 percent. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax instead of foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DXE-LL300 is sold by the foot, previously sold as DXE-LL300-CTL, this is the same ladder line with a new part number. It is also available in spools of 500 ft. DXE-LL300-5C and 1,000 ft. DX Engineering ISO-PLUS Ethernet RF Filters

DX Engineering ISO-PLUS Ethernet RF Filters are very effective EMI Suppressors that are quickly and easily connected inline on Cat5e or Cat6 network cables. Their patented* design provides common mode RF interference and EMI noise filtering of radio frequencies from well below 1 MHz to 100 MHz and beyond. DX Engineering ISO-PLUS Ethernet RF Filters have no effect on throughput; Ethernet data signal levels and speed remain unchanged. *US Patent No. 11,211,679 B2 Electromagnetic interference (EMI), also known as RF interference (RFI), can be imposed onto your received radio and data signals from many electronic devices normally found around a residence, a radio room or a business network. Areas of major concern are the Gigabit Ethernet Cat5(e) and Cat6 cables used for network (LAN) connections between personal computers, printers, multi-port switches, cable modems, routers and radio transceivers, and between many other devices. DX Engineering ISO-PLUS RF filters, installed on both ends of Ethernet cables, work two ways. First, they can mitigate RF interference caused to the Ethernet connected device. Second, they can reduce interference to radio receivers and other Ethernet devices that is caused by RFI or EMI generated by an Ethernet connected device. ISO-PLUS filters are sold in pairs and are normally installed at each end of an Ethernet cable; one filter at the RJ-45 Ethernet plug of the first device and the other filter at the RJ-45 Ethernet plug of the second device. Each ISO-Plus comes with one six inch shielded RJ-45 patch cable (color may vary). They are designed to be installed in pairs; offered in a 2 filter package DXE-ISO-PLUS-2 or a 10 filter package DXE-ISO-PLUS-10. Click "More Details" below for additional information. DX Engineering ISO-PLUS Ethernet RF Filters are an important tool to improve productivity and radio reception of weak signals. "If you can't hear them, you can't work them." DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors

The DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors shown here include two-part, silver-plated PL-259 and Type-N connectors designed to be crimped or soldered to the shield and soldered to the center conductor. These connectors deliver excellent performance for HF, VHF, and UHF applications. DX Engineering's PL-259 and Type-N connectors feature silver-plated brass throughout the outer and inner conductors and use PTFE dielectric—the best RF insulator—for very low loss and high electrical breakdown strength. Also available are DX Engineering Silver-Plated Reducers, which adapt standard solder-type PL-259 and Type-N connectors for use with single-shield RG-8X and RG-58U coaxial cables. While many types and grades of coaxial RF connectors are offered on the market, DX Engineering provides only top-quality connectors with silver-plated brass bodies and PTFE dielectric. These two-part solder-style connectors fit RG-213, RG-8U, RG-8X/LMR240 and other standard 0.405 in. single-braid shield coaxial cables intended for soldering*—but not 400MAX or LMR-400 double-shield cables. These solder-shield and solder-center connectors are the preferred choice for many Amateur Radio operators installing single-braid shield coaxial cables. Order your DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors and Reducers today! *NOTE: To prevent noise issues, modern engineering practice has determined that double shield cables that have one foil and one braid should not be soldered to the braid, including DXE-400MAX and LMR-400 style cables. Those cables should be terminated with crimp shield or clamp shield style connectors, also available from DX Engineering.
