SOTAbeams Speech Compressors

SOTAbeams Speech Compressors are available in two versions; ready-built or as an easy-to build kit with a build time of approximately 40 minutes. Unleash your DX potential! The FT-817 and FT-818 are great little radios, but their SSB speech power does lack punch. Here is a fantastic external AF dynamic compressor that will aid readability and maximize the performance of your radio, which is essential when using QRP. Speech Compressors work by raising the average level of your audio signal, giving greater "talk power" with an apparent improvement of up to 6 dB! SOTAbeams Speech Compressors are Plug- and-Play! They have a modular 8-pin jack for your Yaesu microphone and a modular cable is included to connect the unit to the radio microphone input. The compressor function can be switched on or off, and the module draws its DC power directly from the transceiver (approximately 10mA). The compression level is adjustable and modifications to your microphone or transceiver are not required! An additional, very useful feature of this compressor unit is a tuning tone. Press the Down button on the microphone while the PTT is depressed to activate the tone, which is useful for adjusting tuners and antennas. The SOTAbeams Speech Compressors are also suitable for use with all versions of Yaesu FT-900, FT-857, FT-897 and FT-450 transceivers. IMPORTANT: Speech compression cannot be used on FM mode.

SOTAbeams LASERBEAM DSP Filter Modules

SOTAbeams LASERBEAM DSP Filter Modules work much better at reducing QRM than mechanical or analog filters. SOTAbeams applies special algorithm-based software to create well-defined passbands with steep contours. SOTAbeams offers their General Purpose, CW and SSB filter modules with switchable passbands. For example, the CW module (SBM-LB-MODULE-CW) may be used with either a 550 to 850 Hz passband, or a wider 300 to 1300 Hz passband. You choose the passband based on your own band conditions. Their SSB module (SBM-LB-MODULESSB) features passbands of either 300 to 2700 Hz or 300 to 2400 Hz. SOTAbeams designers have determined that these passbands work very well for SSB voice filtering. They offer their General Purpose filter module (SBM-LB-MODULE-GP) to accommodate both CW and SSB. These modules have selectable passbands of 550 to 850 Hz and also 300 to 2700 Hz. In this way you may limit CW or SSB QRM that is outside the selected audio passband. Be advised that these modules are NOT of the plug-in style. To use them takes some knowledge and soldering skill. You will also have to add an enclosure, if desired, as well as external parts not supplied with the PCBs. As designed, these modules will drive typical "low power" earbuds all by themselves. They will also drive audio amplifiers or amplified speakers. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Are you tired of battling the QRM? Order SOTAbeams LASERBEAM DSP Filter Modules from DX Engineering to hold those signals at bay!

SOTAbeams LASERBEAM-VARI Digital Variable Bandwidth Audio Filter Module

SOTAbeams LASERBEAM-VARI Digital Variable Bandwidth Audio Filter Module - the perfect addition to your project or your existing radio. Unlike analogue filters, digital filters provide near-perfect characteristics. Because of the way that they are implemented, they are better than analogue filters in almost every way! LASERBEAM-VARI Modules been designed for ease of use. One simple control allows you to continuously vary the bandwidth or the center frequency of the filter. All settings produce the same great filters with flat pass bands and steep skirts. Whether you need passband tuning, filters for digital modes and APRS, low pass filters or CW filters, the LASERBEAM-VARI does it all in one compact module. Dial up EXACTLY the filter you need. •Bandwidth 200Hz - 3500Hz •Max Passband 200Hz - 3500Hz •Indicator outputs for tuning mode (bandwidth or center-frequency) •On board overload indicator •User-defined power-up filter settings •Two gain settings Great for all modes: SSB-CW-Digi-AM-NBFM. A single clickable rotary encoder provides the main functionality. Click to switch between variable bandwidth or center frequency. Store your favorite setting as a power-up default. Simple but very effective, this filter is continuously variable and always has near perfect characteristics unattainable with conventional analogue techniques. Kit includes: •filter module PCB (ready-built), •Bourns rotary encoder (6mm diameter shaft) , •3 x LEDs, •2 x 10 way headers, •7 resistors, 2 capacitors NOTICE: NO enclosure or instructions are provided. All construction data is online at SOTAbeams.co.uk Simple to use: the instructions are downloadable here. The instructions contain information to allow users to control the filter using a microcontroller. Example filters These plots have been made by testing a LASERBEAM-VARI using a professional audio spectrum analyzer (QuantAsylum QA400). Remember that the LASERBEAM-VARI can synthesize any bandpass filter that you want (200-3500Hz).
