DX Engineering Feedpoint Connectors

DX Engineering Feedpoint Connectors provide a direct transition from coaxial cable to feedpoint for Yagi, Loop Fed Arrays (LFA), Rotatable Dipoles and other antennas that do not have a coaxial connector. Three Feedpoint Connector types are available; SO-239 UHF Female, Type-N Female and 7-16 DIN Female. Each Feedpoint Connector (FPC) features silver-soldered solid tinned-copper 12 AWG wire leads to the connector, which is epoxy potted into a plastic housing, 1.573 inch square and 0.787 inch deep, for a weather-sealed direct feedpoint connection. Of course, additional weatherproofing should be applied to the male to female connector junction, as is typically suggested. DX Engineering Feedpoint Connectors' two wire leads are about 4 in. each, for connection to balanced driven elements of beams and rotatable dipoles on which a coaxial connector does not exist. A longer length of wire is easily soldered to these tinned wires, if required, but increasing connection spacing drives up feedpoint impedance and increases the possibility of mismatch. FPCs are ideal for antennas, especially phased antenna pairs or multiples, on which a coaxial cable ferrite RF bead choke is required at the feedpoint, in place of a traditional enclosed balun. DXE-FPC units do not have mounting clamps, straps or holes. They are intended to be supported by the coax cable attachment to the boom or mast and by the connections to the antenna. An appropriate center insulator kit, such as the DXE-UWA-KIT and coaxial cable strain relief, DXE-CSR213-1, can accommodate the use of Feedpoint Connectors SO-239 UHF Female, Type-N and 7-16DIN for specialized and high power wire antennas, also accommodating a ferrite RF Bead Choke on the RG-213U size coax cable, 0.405 in. diameter.

Mastrant Antenna Support and Guy Line Ropes

Mastrant Antenna Support and Guy Line Ropes are available in several sizes and strength ratings, perfect for support of wire antennas, vertical antennas and antenna masts, as well as support of Yagi booms and elements. Mastrant ropes are of the highest quality for strength and are UV-protected for extended longevity. MASTRANT-O is a highly reflective rope (bright orange plus braided reflective tape) based on long-term proven Polyester (Dacron) product line. It is designed for maximum visibility in public places such as Field Day and POTA activities. Like all Mastrant ropes, it is UV stable and resistant to all weather conditions. It has low weight, great abrasion resistance, great durability and is nonconductive (no effect whatsoever on your antenna). Moreover, in contrast to ropes made from aramid fibers (Kevlar, Vectran, Technora, Twaron), it has knot strength about 60 %. Mastrant-P and Mastrant-R Ropes are stronger than other synthetic ropes of the same size, made from proven modern polyester. Mastrant-Q is a new rope made from a blend of polyester and polypropylene, designed specifically for guying applications. It offers an excellent performance-to-price ratio and has a knot strength of approximately 60%. It replaces Mastrant-P in diameters of 6 mm (1/4 in.) and larger. Mastrant-S is a similar polyester/polypropylene rope, distinguished by its highly reflective strands for increased visibility. Mastrant-M is their highest strength rope with the Dyneema® DM20 core, a superior synthetic rope offering high performance at an affordable price. Very high strength, negligible elongation, very low weight, and great abrasion resistance are all attributes that make Mastrant-M the best rope for guying. Larger, stronger sizes of Mastrant-M are used in Europe and other parts of the world for tower guying. Durability and safety are of prime concern to ensure that an antenna installation remains fully operational for a long time. Antennas and guy lines are exposed to changing weather conditions, mechanical strain, UV radiation, humidity, and more. These non-conductive synthetic fibers have all the necessary qualities: high strength, negligible stretch but good flexibility, long life, low moisture collection, fast drying, a minimum bending radius adding the ability to tie knots, good UV radiation resistance, weather durability and resistance to acids and alkali. Conversely, steel guying wires are heavy, difficult to work with, and their strength deteriorates with time due to corrosion and general aging. Electrical conductivity of steel guys is an undesirable feature, as they interact with the antennas and adversely modify radiation patterns. Thanks to recent developments in synthetic materials, both amateur and professional users are changing over to non-conductive guys and ropes. Mastrant offers these products for a variety of applications, from thin support lines used for wire antennas and beams, to rope guys for supporting small and portable masts and vertical antennas. When you need quality rope to install, replace, or modify your antenna systems, consider Mastrant Antenna Support and Guy Line Ropes, now available from DX Engineering.

DX Engineering Feedpoint Wire and Connector Assemblies

DX Engineering Feedpoint Wire and Connector Assemblies provide a new and unique method of feeding an antenna radiating element. A ring terminal with a 1/4 in. hole is crimped and soldered to a 12 in. long insulated 14 AWG stranded copper wire, complete with weather-protective heat shrink tubing. Then, these feed point wires are terminated to the center pin of an N-type male or UHF male PL-259 with special insulating sleeves and weather-sealing heat shrink. These assemblies are intended to be used with a double female bulkhead connector, mounted into the Radial Plate, for use on an HF vertical antenna, for example. This wire and connector combination allows for the complete weather sealing of a single wire feed point, while properly terminating the feedline shield to the radial system or ground point of the antenna system. Especially useful for phased vertical installations, the DX Engineering Feedpoint Wire and Connector Assemblies are ready for your special antenna projects!

DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits

DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits bring a practical solution to a serious problem when ferrite chokes are placed directly onto the metal boom at the feedpoint of beam antennas. A number of Amateur Radio operators and antenna engineers have known for years about the superior choking function of many ferrite toroids beads placed directly on the coaxial cable, as compared to standard feedpoint baluns. A more recent revelation is that the proximity of ferrite beads on coax taped to the aluminum boom of the antenna drastically reduces their effectiveness. DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits are mounting systems, made of fiberglass or acetyl standoff rods (color varies), PVC carriers and stainless steel hardware, available in four versions. Two sizes of PVC cradle tubes handle two different types of RF bead chokes; 3/4 inch outside diameter (OD) ferrite beads on RG-400 size cable, and 1 inch OD ferrite beads on RG-213 size 0.405 in. coax cable. Each are offered with two different boom size clamps, 2 inch OD and 3 inch OD. Bead Choke Standoff Kits simply hold an RF bead choke and feedline 4 inches away from the metal beam antenna boom (or 4 inches away from the metal mast for a dipole). They maintain the optimal choking performance of ferrite beads on coax. Using DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits, ferrite bead chokes function at peak performance for these key results: • Prevent feedline radiation of RF • Preserve current balance for proper beam antenna pattern • Prevent feedline shield exterior collected noise and signals from entering the antenna and interior of the feedline, resulting in lower noise floor and enhanced reception The absolute superiority of RF chokes made of many beads on the feedline, over the traditional enclosure balun, is becoming better understood in Amateur Radio. They achieve the best possible RF isolation of the feedline from the antenna and provide completely balanced currents at the feedpoint. Plus, they provide quieter reception with reduction of common-mode noise. Keeping Bead RF Chokes away from metal preserves the optimal function of this method of antenna feedpoint current balance and isolation. This mechanical requirement is simple and practical with DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits.

Low Band Systems HF Transmit Band Pass Filters

NOTICE: Due to materials supply and logistical issues, resupply of Low Band Systems products will be delayed for an indefinite period. Low Band Systems HF Transmit Band Pass Filters are very high quality multi-stage devices designed to specifically limit the RF band pass to a single Amateur band. They eliminate image and harmonic RF interference issues for dedicated mono-band operations in multi-radio contesting environments. Required for use with transmit multiplexers, these passive filters provide the additional isolation needed to allow multiple transceivers to be operated on different bands simultaneously on the same antenna. Used individually on mono-band radio and antenna combinations, these filters provide the isolation required in multi-radio contest stations. Low Band Systems band pass filters are available for each of the ten HF Amateur Bands in 200, 500 and 1,500 watt models, and 2,000 watt models for the main contesting bands of 160, 80, 40, 20 ,15 and 10 meters. Their unique aluminum enclosures, some with fans, are laser cut with "Perfo-Box" on the side and their power handling and band of operation are stenciled chassis cutouts in European nomenclature, such as "3,5 MHz" for the 80 meter filter, for example. Their permanent demarcation allows immediate identification, preventing any future trouble with faded or missing printed labels. Supplied only with standard UHF Female/SO-239 connectors, these HF Transmit Band Pass Filters achieve over 60 dB of out-of-band suppression that virtually eliminates out of band noise and interfering signals. They are designed to provide a sharp roll off just outside each Amateur band; just below 3.5 MHz and just above 4.0 MHz for the 80 meter filter for example. Low Band Systems filters are the first choice of major multi-multi contest stations around the world! They provide the clear benefit of a dramatically lower noise floor for enhanced single-band weak signal reception desired for elite contest and Field Day operations. Low Band Systems Band Pass Filters are used in conjunction with their multiplexers, also known as multi-band transmit combiners. Low Band Systems Diplexers, Triplexers, Quadplexers and Pentaplexers, also available from DX Engineering, provide good levels of isolation between band ports, but band pass filters are also needed for multi- transmitter operation. This is because the multiplexer's main purpose is to balance the impedances for the multiple-transceiver/single multi-band antenna stations. They provide UHF Female/SO-239 connections for multiple 50-ohm transceivers to be connected to a single 50-ohm feedline. So, band pass filters are REQUIRED for each multiplexer band input to provide the additional isolation required to allow multiple transceiver setups to work. The transceivers for each band are connected to their associated band pass filter, and then to the multiplex device such as a triplexer, which is connected to a tri-band beam, for example. All transceivers can operate simultaneously with up to 80 dB of isolation, unhindered by the signals from the other connected radios operating on the other bands on the same antenna! Achieve the advanced operational advantages that these exceptional filters and multiplexers provide. Order Low Band Systems HF Transmit Band Pass Filters from DX Engineering! NOTE: Filters made for 160 meters are 2.0 MHz low pass models to prevent harmonics on higher bands. They do not reject frequencies below 1.8 MHz. If AM broadcast interference is a problem, an additional BCI filter should be used. After better antennas, these filters are suggested as the most important multi-radio station upgrade by top contest station builders and operators. Low Band Systems HF Transmit Band Pass Filters simply allow more contacts to be made with worldwide DX stations and DXpeditions.

4O3A A50 Antenna/Load Switches

4O3A A50 Antenna/Load Switches serve as 50-ohm loads for open ports on the HFC4500 combiner or other multiplexer, preventing tuning degradation. Applying 12V power connects the input to the combiner's output, linking it to the corresponding combiner or filter. A typical setup switches a filter or a combiner to a monoband antenna. When the A50 is not powered, the switch defaults to a 50-ohm termination for the input and the antenna output is open. NOTE: The A50 is NOT an A/B switch. The manufacturer's label of "A/B Switch" is a product grouping, NOT an indication of the function of this product. The LOAD resistor is internal, so one of three connectors is unnecessary, which leaves an open hole in the chassis, a "normal feature" of the A50.
