DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems

Imagine adjusting the controls to knock out strong interfering stations or noise—and then being able to copy and log that weak DX station. By successfully combining the right antennas with the advanced phasing capabilities of the NCC-2, this is the operating thrill that every radio enthusiast can enjoy, again and again! DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems are variable phasing controllers that combine the 300 kHz- 30MHz received signals from one transmit antenna and one receive antenna, or from two dedicated receive antennas. Combining signals from two stationary antennas physically spaced 1/10 to 1/2 wavelength apart creates an array pattern with signal peaks and dips called nulls. Adjusting the NCC-2 Phase and Balance controls have the effect of electronically rotating or steering that pattern. Steering the null direction to significantly weaken a local or distant interfering signal or noise is known as "Noise Cancelling." This "Noise Cancelling Controller" (NCC-2) can dramatically enhance the reception of weak signals from non-null directions. This "reverse-beam" capability on radio frequencies AM Broadcast through HF can provide amazing benefits for many types of AM DX and SWL receiving and ham radio operating. Work new DX, hear the weak station in casual regional conversations, snag the rare multiplier in contests and hear beyond the noise and interference in dire circumstances. DX Engineering NCC-2 Phasing Systems now feature the built-in RTR Receive-Transmit Interface relay system that expands the exciting benefits of antenna phasing for interference reduction in two ways: * First, the NCC-2 can combine signals from the HF transmit antenna and a separate receive antenna to effectively notch-out strong stations or noise. Almost any Amateur can now enjoy the benefits of antenna phasing and noise-nulling, even those with space limitations for separating the receiving and transmitting antennas. * Second, the user of any standard HF transceiver that lacks a separate receive antenna input can have enhanced reception of noise and signal nulling with the DXE-NCC-2 and two antennas. Rear panel SO-239, F and BNC connectors make the NCC-2 extremely versatile and easy to connect to almost any receiver or HF transceiver up to 200 watts. Redesigned with plug-in modular circuit board sockets, the NCC-2 includes one switched and powered internal slot and two passive internal slots per channel to accommodate these new options: * DXE-RPA-2-PM Receive Preamplifier Plug-In Modules (powered): one per channel for low-signal passive antennas with poor ground conditions * DXE-RG5000HD-PM Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module (passive): Front-end protection for the NCC-2 and the receiver * DXE-IT-PM 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Plug-In Module (passive): to match 75 ohm RX ANT feedlines to NCC-2 50 ohm internal impedance * NCC-2 Receive Filter Sets (passive, non-switchable): High Pass, Band Pass and Low Pass Filters for 160, 80, 40 meters typically in stock, with other band filters available individually by special order. DX Engineering Receiver Guard Electronic RF Limiters

DX Engineering Receiver Guard RG5000HD Electronic RF Limiters are the best choice of inline devices to protect your receiver antenna inputs. The Receiver Guard is a receive antenna input limiter specifically designed to protect a sensitive receiver front-end against high levels of RF and potential damage. At the heart of each Receiver Guard is a highly effective electronic RF limiter covering 500 kHz to 150 MHz with an insertion loss under 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz and under 0.30 dB up to 150 MHz. The multi-stage design includes a gas discharge tube for maximum pulse energy protection. The DXE-RG5000HD rejects 10 watts of catastrophic receive antenna feedline RF while passing a maximum signal of about 87 dB over S-9, which is only 25 mw, a signal level that is well below the point of front end damage. Receiver Guards are a must for multiple radio contesting stations and they provide low-cost front-end "insurance." Use them in these common high-RF situations: - Receive antennas in very close proximity to transmit antennas - Field-day operations with many transmitters in close range - Multi-transmitter contesting sites - Neighboring Amateur and CB operators - Frequent high-power mobile encounters Extensively tested and proven in real-world stations, the Receiver Guard works for all radios and offers the ultimate performance required by the upper tier of transceivers tested to have the best narrow-spaced third-order dynamic range or published RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range). These are passive electronic limiters, so competitive contesting stations use separate band filters in addition to the Receiver Guard. When there are high levels of RF on your receive antennas, the DX Engineering Receiver Guard generates far less harmonic noise than other limiters on the market, which allows your station to continue to operate safely and competitively. At normal HF signal levels the RG5000HD operates continuously with no effect on the performance of your station while providing the best possible protection for your radio. Here are key Receiver Guard features: * Keeps stray high levels of RF from damaging your receiver input * Ideal for separate 160 and/or 80 meter receive systems with large pulse and RF energy capture area * Uses state of the art components for maximum protection of receivers * Under 6 ns response time * Multi-Stage protection * Very low insertion loss * Uses BNC type connectors to avoid accidental connection to a transmit feedline * Has been developed and tested in world-recognized multi-multi contest station K3LR Specifications - DX Engineering Receiver Guard model DXE-RG-5000HD - Frequency Range: 0.5 through 150 MHz - Insertion Loss: < 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz, < 0.3 dB 50 MHz up to 150 MHz - VSWR: < 1.2:1 - Maximum Output Level at 10 W input: +14 dBm (0.025 W) - Maximum Power Handling: 10 W CCS (Continuous Commercial Service) - Device Impedance: 50 to 75 ohms, unbalanced - Connectors, Input and Output: BNC female Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. They are sold individually (DXE-RSEAV-1), or with a bias tee (DXE-RSEAV-1FVI) and DXE-RSEAV-1 Receive Short Element Active Verticals set a new standard for "Active Receive Vertical Antennas" replacing legacy DXE-ARAV-3, ARAV-2, ARAV-1 and AL-24 versions. Use multiple DXE-RSEAV-1 for all 4 and 8 element DX Engineering Receive Arrays – all 3, 4 and 8 element Hi-Z Antennas Arrays – and 2 element receive arrays with DXE-NCC-2 and NCC-1 Variable Phasing Controllers. The DXE-RSEAV-1 is designed to be a very low-gain, low-noise antenna for greatly improved signal-to-noise performance over a very wide range of frequencies. In a proper single or multi-element array installation, this Receive Vertical antenna will attenuate high-angle skywave signals, which is the goal for a low band DXing receive antenna. Low-angle, long-range DX signals are easier to copy with a good radio and DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace or upgrade all the elements in the array with identical, fully compatible DXE-RSEAV-1 antennas or DXE-AVA-3 units.

DX Engineering NOISELOOP Portable Receive Flag Antenna Kit

DX Engineering NOISELOOP Portable Receive Flag Antenna Kit is based on the design by Don Kirk, WD8DSB. Don's article on this antenna is published in the March 2021 issue of QST Magazine (used by permission). The DXE-NOISELOOP is a kit of parts to build this receive-only portable directional HF loop antenna, which measures only 48 by 24 inches plus 36 inches of mast-handle. It may be used while walking or stationary with your portable HF receiver. Oriented vertically, this loop antenna features a cardioid pattern at the horizon with a deep null of up to 30 dB rejection. It is an excellent tool for locating noise sources from 1.8 through 30 MHz and for low-noise, general coverage reception from the AM broadcast band through 30 MHz. An optional Preamplifier-Attenuator Unit, DXE-NL-PRE-ATT-1, may be attached to the loop mast handle for enhanced operations. An IC-705, a portable SW or a handheld HF receiver are excellent choices for searching for local noise sources with the NOISELOOP, around the neighborhood and even around your own home. This Portable Flag Antenna Kit includes everything needed to make the antenna: fiberglass tubing for the frame and handle, mounting plate, separate PC boards for the bifilar wound transformer and load resistor, antenna wire, coaxial cable with male BNC and stainless steel hardware. Simple hand tools and a solder iron are required for assembly. Included instructions detail assembly. This kit will typically take between 1 and 2 hours to build. The WD8DSB Portable Flag Antenna design has become a real game changer in direction finding of RFI on MF and HF frequencies, and you will also find it an invaluable tool when hunting RFI due to the following key features. *Unidirectional (unlike a tuned loop) *Broadband (unlike a tuned loop, excellent for AM DXing, SWL and Amateur) *Portable (easy to walk with while directional noise finding or HF Fox Hunting) Traditionally Flag antennas are large and designed for stationary use, but the idea for this antenna was to design a Portable Flag. It was designed to be the largest possible (to maximize gain) that would fit inside a car and it's still small enough to maintain a cardioid pattern up through 30 MHz. The portable Flag has an approximate dimension of 2 feet tall by 4 feet long which you (or a helper) can easily walk with while tracking down a signal. Unlike a tuned loop, the Portable Flag is a broadband antenna with unidirectional properties, and it's designed for direction finding from 1.8 to 30 MHz as long as an appropriate preamp is used. It's even useful for direction finding down in the AM broadcast band. The rear of the antenna produces a sharp null when pointed at the signal of interest and the sharp null is often used for direction finding versus using the broad peak which occurs when the front of the antenna is pointed at the signal of interest. DX Engineering 2-Port Splitter-Combiners

DX Engineering 2-Port Splitter-Combiners are receive signal-level RF devices that operate from 300 kHz to 30 MHz, available in 50 ohm and 75 ohm versions. They're typically used to split one RF signal to properly feed two receivers, or the receive antenna inputs of one transceiver and one separate receiver. They also properly combine two receiving antennas in phase, such as Beverage antennas, to form a phased receive array. Important features of the DX Engineering 2-Port Splitter-Combiner: * Available for 50 ohm and 75 ohm systems * Broad, 300 kHz through 30 MHz operating range * High-quality components * Isolated ports * Metal housing for superior shielding and longer life * Reliable side-mount connectors: BNC female for 50 ohm, F female connectors for 75 ohm model * Economical solution to potential impedance errors that cause losses With the updated "SC" versions of the original 2-Port Splitter-Combiner, DX Engineering has maintained the port isolation design that prevents signal performance degradation caused by impedance errors in less-than-perfect receive systems. The normal signal level reduction when used as a splitter is just over 3 dB per port. As with any system, losses are dependent upon source and load impedances being matched. DX Engineering Splitter-Combiners provide equal power, voltage, and current to matched loads on ports 1 and 2. The primary advantage is that individual receiver input variations, or a band filter attached to only one port, will not seriously affect the signal level in the other receiver. In addition, any spurious signals generated in one receiver are greatly attenuated by the 2-Port Splitter-Combiner before reaching the second receiver. When splitting in-phase signals, the loss is somewhat less. Any unused port of the 2-Port Splitter-Combiner should be terminated and specified losses are based on source and load impedances being matched. The DX Engineering 2-Port Splitter-Combiner is a passive device; therefore it requires no power to operate. Use the 75-ohm version for combining two 75 ohm antenna feedlines into a single 75 ohm feedline with negligible loss; or use the 50-ohm version for 50-ohm antennas and feedlines. Examples for applications are for two antennas forming an in-phase (broadside) receiving array, a cross-fire Echelon Beverage array, or any type of array with fixed phasing. There are a number of advantages to using these units for combining antenna systems over a standard parallel connection: * Splitter-Combiners match the entire antenna system to the feedline impedance; conversely, paralleling feedlines by using a T-connector divides the impedance in half, causing mismatched losses * With antennas connected directly in parallel, if either one develops a high impedance open, becomes shorted, falls down, or has a feedline problem, the entire antenna system may become unusable. By using the 2-Port Splitter-Combiner, only the problem antenna is unusable; the antenna on the other port can still be used * Unlike quarter wave matching sections that only work on one band, these Splitter-Combiners have extremely wide bandwidth * Due to the built-in isolation and balancing, these units limit the signal loss to approximately 3 dB per port * 2-Port Splitter-Combiners provide very high isolation between ports 1 and 2; this prevents either antenna from interfering with the other during normal operation Note: These devices cannot be used for FM broadcast, VHF, UHF, CATV or Satellite TV. They operate only MF through HF. Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information.

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module drastically reduces RF signals in the 530 to 1700 kHz MW range while passing frequencies below and above this range with minimal attenuation. A large section of the AM Broadcast Band (BCB) is attenuated by nearly 70db with a maximum of 75dB. Response rolls off quickly above 490 kHz and below 1.8 MHz. Detailed plots demonstrate the excellent performance of this AM band receiving rejection filter. The DXE-Z10020-PM RX AM Reject Filter plug-in module is our version of the 7th Order Chebyshev design built to deliver the performance of the original Clifton Labs AM Broadcast Band (BCB) filter. It provides excellent Broadcast Interference (BCI) filtering performance for Amateur low band and commercial SW receive applications, with less than 2dB insertion loss across the 160 meter band. The DXE-Z10020-PM module can be installed in the DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis to create an inline high-performance receive-only AM Band Reject Filter. Or, install one of these versatile AM filter modules inside of the DXE-RPA-2 Receive Preamplifier or the DXE-RTR-2 Receive Antenna Interface. Two AM BCB Reject Filter modules will cover the two channels of the DXE-NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Unit. DX Engineering Transmit Receive Interrupter Plug-In Module

DX Engineering Transmit Receive Interrupter Plug-In Module, DXE-TRI-PM, provides essential protection from the station's transmitted energy picked up by a receive antenna that is connected to the DXE-NCC-2 Channel B Receive Antenna Input active front end. This optional custom PCB relay switch device is typically installed in the top Option Slot of the Channel B rear panel board in the NCC-2. When the transceiver keys the RADIO PTT port of the NCC-2, the DXE-TRI-PM can open or ground the receive antenna input and the board output, as selected by jumpers. It functions independently and does not affect or depend on the settings of the NCC-2 Bias-Tee Enable circuit that places DC on the receive antenna feedline for Active antennas. The DXE-TRI-PM is only in the path of the receive antenna input. It also features a Gas Discharge Tube to protect the front end of the NCC-2 while in the receive mode. Adding a second DXE-TRI-PM Transmit Receive Interrupter Plug-In Module to the the top slot of the NCC-2 Channel A rear panel board is recommended. The gas tube provides pulse energy protection during receive and disconnect or grounding protection when the CH A RX ANT IN port is used for a receive antenna that is physically too close to the transmit antenna. Adding a DXE-TRI-PM can provide input protection for the RTR-2 RX ANT IN during receive and by grounding the receive antenna input during transmissions. Alternatively, the DXE-TRI-PM installed in the DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis can interrupt or ground any receive antenna feedline or a receiver input. Jumper settings select opening or grounding of the receive antenna input and receiver output. This receive feedline RF switch is operated by toggling 13.8 VDC, on for Receive and off when Transmitting. The DMC-2 PCB jumper HD5 selects operating DC from either the 2.1mm power connector or the "Receiver Output" coaxial cable with a user supplied DC Bias-Tee device, such as the DXE-FVI-1 Feedline Voltage Injector. Remote outdoor installation requires a weather resistant cover.

DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Antenna System Combos

DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Antenna System Combos allow two Beverage antennas to be switched to receive in opposite directions while sharing the same physical space. These exciting new reversible Beverage combos include DX Engineering's superb receive preamp! Dramatically improved weak signal results can be achieved on MW, BCB, 160, 80 and 40 meter bands and shortwave bands with receive-only Beverage wire antennas that are typically 350 to 800 feet long, depending upon the lowest band of interest. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage System Combos are immune to the strong signal overload and core saturation common in multi-transmitter contesting environments. Reversible Beverages have two antenna F connectors; one "Away" port for the default end-fire receiving pattern off the end of the wire, and one "Toward" port for the opposite direction. Applying a negative 10 to 18 V DC to the feedline switches the system between the two antenna ports for reception in opposite directions. You can build a 4-direction receive antenna system with two reversible Beverage systems and one DX Engineering RLS-2 Two-Port Receiving Switch that also requires only one feedline! The optional DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Coupler, model DXE-FVC-1 is highly recommended to provide all of the required feedline voltage injection. Plus, the optional DXE-EC-4 BCD Control Console completes the system for four-direction switching right in the shack. These RBS systems will work with any 300-600 ohm 2-wire line. For best low-loss low-noise results, use DX Engineering flooded or quad-shielded 75-ohm coax; with our F-type compression connectors to ensure a weatherproof installation. DX Engineering RPA-1 Receive Preamplifiers use RCA-type phono jacks and CATV Type-F female connectors for the input and output connections to prevent accidental connection to transmitting devices. DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array V3 Systems

DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array V3 Systems, DXE-R4S-SYS-V3, dramatically improve reception of weak distant MW and SW signals with excellent rejection of extraneous signals and noise. This is a four-direction switchable phased array that is able to cover multiple HF Amateur bands, such as 160, 80 and 40 meters, by using time delay phasing of four physically short active receive vertical elements. The resulting directional receiving pattern has deep back and side nulls that are superior to Beverage antennas and other receive arrays. The DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array is less susceptible to high angle signals than EWE, Flag, Pennant, K9AY and SAL antennas. Short vertical element receive arrays limit interfering signals and noise for dramatically superior weak signal reception, as compared to full size transmitting antennas and arrays. With the appropriate location and spacing of the four stealthy 8.5 ft. (2.6m) vertical elements, the Receive Four Square Array V3 System is a high performance, directional receive antenna for HF Amateur, SWL or AM DXing. Click or tap the title of a listed item for an overview - a complete description, Specifications, Required and Suggested Parts. Links to instruction manuals and charts appear in Documentation. DX Engineering Receive Four Square Arrays offer directional performance comparable to four long Beverage wire antennas, while using far less land area. In the appropriate clear area, away from metal, structures and other antennas, each of the four Actives simply mount inches above the earth onto a ground rod. Each element is installed on the corners of the array square with sides that are one-eighth to one-quarter wavelength on the lowest band. For example, the optimized Receive Four Square Array for 160, 80 and 40 meters has elements spaced 70 ft. apart. The DXE-R4S-SYS-V3 system includes the DXE-RFS-3 Receive Four Square Array Controller, four Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas, DXE-RSEAV-1, featuring the new DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Units, insulating mounting plates and stainless hardware. These Active Antennas are packed in a 38 x 5 x 5 in. carton for lower shipping cost. Three sections of 3 ft. aluminum tubing, 0.500, 0.375 and 0.250 inch OD, assemble to a height of only 8.5 ft., so each self-supporting element is truly stealthy. This complete array system also includes the DXE-EC-4 Directional Control Console, one 1,000 ft. roll of quality RG6U cable, all cable prep tools, connectors and hardware for construction of the array. Required ground rods and control cable are purchased separately. Build an exceptionally effective, electronically rotatable, stationary receive antenna that lets you hear the DX signals that cannot be heard on a transmit antenna. Dig the weak signals out of the noise with an antenna that can help make your station one of the best. Order and install the DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array V3 System.
