DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems

Imagine adjusting the controls to knock out strong interfering stations or noise—and then being able to copy and log that weak DX station. By successfully combining the right antennas with the advanced phasing capabilities of the NCC-2, this is the operating thrill that every radio enthusiast can enjoy, again and again! DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems are variable phasing controllers that combine the 300 kHz- 30MHz received signals from one transmit antenna and one receive antenna, or from two dedicated receive antennas. Combining signals from two stationary antennas physically spaced 1/10 to 1/2 wavelength apart creates an array pattern with signal peaks and dips called nulls. Adjusting the NCC-2 Phase and Balance controls have the effect of electronically rotating or steering that pattern. Steering the null direction to significantly weaken a local or distant interfering signal or noise is known as "Noise Cancelling." This "Noise Cancelling Controller" (NCC-2) can dramatically enhance the reception of weak signals from non-null directions. This "reverse-beam" capability on radio frequencies AM Broadcast through HF can provide amazing benefits for many types of AM DX and SWL receiving and ham radio operating. Work new DX, hear the weak station in casual regional conversations, snag the rare multiplier in contests and hear beyond the noise and interference in dire circumstances. DX Engineering NCC-2 Phasing Systems now feature the built-in RTR Receive-Transmit Interface relay system that expands the exciting benefits of antenna phasing for interference reduction in two ways: * First, the NCC-2 can combine signals from the HF transmit antenna and a separate receive antenna to effectively notch-out strong stations or noise. Almost any Amateur can now enjoy the benefits of antenna phasing and noise-nulling, even those with space limitations for separating the receiving and transmitting antennas. * Second, the user of any standard HF transceiver that lacks a separate receive antenna input can have enhanced reception of noise and signal nulling with the DXE-NCC-2 and two antennas. Rear panel SO-239, F and BNC connectors make the NCC-2 extremely versatile and easy to connect to almost any receiver or HF transceiver up to 200 watts. Redesigned with plug-in modular circuit board sockets, the NCC-2 includes one switched and powered internal slot and two passive internal slots per channel to accommodate these new options: * DXE-RPA-2-PM Receive Preamplifier Plug-In Modules (powered): one per channel for low-signal passive antennas with poor ground conditions * DXE-RG5000HD-PM Receiver Guard 5000HD Plug-In Module (passive): Front-end protection for the NCC-2 and the receiver * DXE-IT-PM 75 to 50 ohm Impedance Transformer Plug-In Module (passive): to match 75 ohm RX ANT feedlines to NCC-2 50 ohm internal impedance * NCC-2 Receive Filter Sets (passive, non-switchable): High Pass, Band Pass and Low Pass Filters for 160, 80, 40 meters typically in stock, with other band filters available individually by special order. DX Engineering NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems offer these new additional benefits: * Multi-Color Status Indicating LEDs for Power, RTR Mode and Preamp Power CH A and CH B * New Radio Key Line Input with RX Enable Output-RTR Failsafe to prevent RF damage to NCC-2 and RX equipment * New ACC Key Line Output RCA female 'ground on transmit' pass-through for Amplifier or Accessory * New screw-on 2.1mm DC connector to prevent accidental power cable pull-out * Operates on +13.8VDC @ 2A input to power the NCC-2 and internally jumper set Bias Tee on each RX ANT ports for coax fed Active Verticals and other accessories. Offering new and experienced radio enthusiasts the next level of reception enhancements, DX Engineering model NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Systems in use around the world!

DX Engineering AVA-3 Active Matching Units

DX Engineering AVA-3 Active Matching Units are state-of-the-art broadband receive RF operational amplifiers that achieve unparalleled weak signal reception across the radio frequency range from 40 kHz* to 30 MHz. They work as a high impedance buffer between a short antenna element of 6 to 24 feet and an economical 75 ohm feedline. The AVA-3 and a short element are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. The gain adjustable AVA-3 is the sole upgrade and drop-in replacement for all discontinued receive array element amplifiers including Hi-Z Antennas AMP, PLUS6-AMP, AMP-V2 and AMP-PLUS-V2 as well as DXE-AVA-2 and AVA-1. The DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit is the heart of the new line of DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas, DXE-RSEAV-1. Compared to large antennas, this amplified short element method dramatically improves signal-to-noise performance for excellent VLF, LF and HF weak signal reception. Click or tap the title of the listed item for an overview - a complete description, Specifications, Required and Suggested Parts. Links to instruction manuals and charts appear in Documentation. The AVA-3 Active Matching Unit provides these features and benefits: • Ultimate frequency coverage of 40 kHz* to 30 MHz for VLF through HF (including the 2200m and 630m Amateur bands) • High Third Order Intercept (TOI) Performance +39dBm for superior strong signal handling equal to top transceivers • Consistent unit to unit gain for greatly improved array performance • Virtually Flat Gain (+/-0.4 dBm) across the entire frequency range • Internally settable gain (default -6, 0, or +6 dBm) for different ambient noise locations and element sizes • Direct DC via second F connector – internal settable choice for separate DC and RF coaxial cables for best performance, or standard Bias Tee DC on the RF coax • Each DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit operates on 12 -15 VDC at 25mA • Element is grounded when power is removed • 75 ohm F connectors support field serviceable RG-6 Quad Shield suitable up to 1,000 feet for VLF through HF *Frequency coverage below 200 kHz requires Direct DC on a separate DC only coaxial cable. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace and upgrade all the element amplifiers in the array with fully compatible DXE-AVA-3 units.

WiMo QRM Eliminator

The WiMo QRM Eliminator is a simple signal phasing device that can effectively reduce or remove noise interference for dramatically improved reception from 3.5 to 60 MHz. The QRM Eliminator is based on a totally innovative concept and cannot be compared to the performance of noise blanker or DSP circuits. Removing the noise before it gets to the receiver is the superior method of interference reduction. With the WiMo QRM Eliminator you can get rid of local interference almost entirely, up to an S9 level, with the likely result of completely clear reception! You don't have to understand the cause or type of interference nor do you need to know the location of its source. It doesn't matter if the interference originates from your own station or from a welding unit hundreds of feet away. The QRM Eliminator simply connects to the antenna port of transceiver and to the antenna (or amplifier input), without any radio modifications required. An additional user supplied auxiliary receiving antenna is required, such as a properly positioned 8 ft. outdoor dipole antenna or a simple 20 ft. wire in the shack, for example. This "noise sense" antenna receives mostly unwanted signal, while the transmitting antenna receives the same interference in a different phase along with the desired signal. The QRM Eliminator allows the adjustment of the amplification and phase to cancel out the unwanted signal before it reaches the receiver front end! Noise or interference nulling can provide over 45 dB of unwanted signal suppression, in many cases resulting in clear reception of the desired signal. The QRM Eliminator is built into a shielded metal enclosure, functions over the frequency range of 3.5 through 60 MHz, and has a status LED to indicate when the unit is turned on for phasing. The unit has a built-in T/R relay with PTT control via a rear panel RCA phono connector for the transceiver amplifier keying line. The QRM Eliminator automatically switches the Main antenna connection to the transceiver during transmit. Also, simply turn the unit off to bypass the phasing unit for normal reception on the Main transmit antenna. Click "More Detail" below to see additional information about this exciting device. You may not believe the power of interference phase nulling until you have experienced it for yourself. Order the WiMo QRM Eliminator exclusively in North America from DX Engineering.

DX Engineering Receive Feedline Voltage Injectors

DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Injectors, DXE-FVI-1, are high-quality bias-tee devices that place direct current onto a receive antenna system's coaxial cable while preventing DC from reaching the Radio port. These FVI-1 voltage injectors are used to power active accessory devices, such remote relays, switching systems, and preamplifiers. These are the original equipment FVI-1 units provided with single DX Engineering Active Receive Vertical antenna models. Voltage is applied via the 2.1mm power connector to the receive antenna feedline F connector. The RCA phono jack connects to the receiver input with that DC voltage blocked, while passing RF from 100 kHz to 30 MHz. Various RCA phono plug adapters for different RF cable connectors are available in Suggested Parts. Two DXE-FVI-1 feedline voltage injectors may be connected at opposite ends of a feedline to provide DC voltage on the transmission line for your own custom application, keeping the input and output RF devices isolated from the voltage. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems

DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems basically allow two Beverage antennas to be switched to receive in opposite directions while sharing the same physical space. DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems antennas provide two opposite "end-fire" directional patterns with excellent front-to-rear directivity and superior signal-to-noise ratio as compared to transmitting antennas. Dramatically improved long distance weak signal results may be achieved on MW and the 160, 80 and 40 meter bands, including shortwave bands, with receive-only Beverage antennas using wires that are typically only 350 to 800 feet long, depending upon the band of interest. The two-direction DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems offer a space and installation advantage because two opposite single-wire Beverage antennas would require twice the length. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems are immune to the strong signal overload and core saturation common in multi-transmitter contesting environments and are used by winning contest stations and low-band DXers around the world. These Reversible Beverage antennas have two "F" connectors; one "Away" port for the default end-fire receiving pattern off the end of the wire, and one "Toward" port for the opposite direction. The standard configuration of these systems has the "Toward" port terminated (75-ohm termination included), so both antennas share a common feedline. Applying a negative 10 to 18V DC to the feedline switches the system between the two antenna ports for reception in opposite directions. For simultaneous reception from opposing directions, each of the two feedlines can be run to separate receivers, with the termination load not used. You can build a 4-direction receive antenna system with two DXE-RBSA-1P Reversible Beverage Systems and one DX Engineering RLS-2 Two-Port Receiving Switch that also requires only one feedline! The optional DX Engineering Feedline Voltage Coupler, model DXE-FVC-1 is highly recommended to provide all of the required feedline voltage injection. Plus, the optional DXE-EC-4 BCD Control Console completes the system for four-direction switching right in the shack. DX Engineering Reversible Beverage Systems are optimized to use our optional 450 ohm ladder line for the antenna element. We strongly recommend using that type of "window line" because the consistent spacing of the antenna wires will produce the best operational results. However, the RBS will work with any 300-600 ohm 2-wire line. For best feed line results, DX Engineering highly recommends using our high quality flooded or quad-shielded 75-ohm coax with F-type compression connectors to ensure a weatherproof installation. Additional features include: * Broad operating range, 0.2 to 30 MHz * Fully isolated grounds prevent common-made noise and unwanted signals * 75 ohm design enables the use of high quality, low cost cable and connectors * RF shielded housing used for isolation and improved life * Directional Switching Voltage: nominal 12V AC or negative 12V DC, feedline injected * Directional Switching Current: less than 80 mA * Antenna impedance: 300-600 ohm (450 ohm recommended) * Feedline impedance: 50-75 ohm (75 ohm recommended) * RBSA-1FP Feed Point unit dimensions: 5.5 in. width x 3.5 in. depth x 1.5 in. height * RBS-1RT Reflection Transformer unit dimensions: 2.125 in. width x 2.125 in. depth x 1.125 in. height Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. United Microsystems BT-75/BOG Beverage-On-Ground Antenna Transformers

The United Microsystems BT-75/BOG Beverage-on-Ground (BOG) Antenna Transformers are specifically designed for Beverage-on-Ground receive antennas and is based on the proven BT-75 transformer used with elevated Beverage antennas. Because BOG antennas are installed directly on or just above the ground, they require no supports and can be significantly shorter than traditional Beverage antennas, making them a practical option where space is limited. BOG antennas typically exhibit lower impedance than elevated Beverage antennas. The BT-75/BOG is optimized to provide proper impedance matching between the antenna and 75-ohm RG-6 coaxial cable, improving performance compared to standard Beverage transformers. For correct operation, the far end of the antenna must be terminated with a 250 to 300-ohm resistive load. The United Microsystems RXT-270 termination resistor is recommended. Properly installed Beverage antennas are low-noise, receive-only antennas that provide excellent rejection of signals and noise from the undesired direction. Due to the lower velocity factor of radio waves near the ground, a BOG antenna can often deliver a radiation pattern similar to an elevated Beverage antenna of roughly twice the length, though with reduced signal strength. A BOG antenna as short as 150 to 200 feet can provide effective receive performance, although a preamplifier may be beneficial in some installations. The BT-75/BOG is designed for use with 75-ohm RG-6 coaxial cable. Originally developed for television applications, RG-6 offers low loss at VHF and UHF frequencies, resulting in extremely low loss on the 160, 80, and 40-meter bands. Its availability and low cost make it a popular choice for low-band receive antenna feed lines. The transformer is housed in a NEMA-rated enclosure with stainless steel hardware for long-term outdoor durability. A built-in gas discharge tube across the antenna terminals helps protect the transformer from nearby lightning-induced surges, although it will not provide protection against direct or very close lightning strikes.

The multi-stage design includes a gas discharge tube for maximum pulse energy protection. The DXE-RG5000HD rejects 10 watts of catastrophic receive antenna feedline RF while passing a maximum signal of about 87 dB over S-9, which is only 25 mw, a signal level that is well below the point of front end damage. Receiver Guards are a must for multiple radio contesting stations and they provide low-cost front-end "insurance." Use them in these common high-RF situations: - Receive antennas in very close proximity to transmit antennas - Field-day operations with many transmitters in close range - Multi-transmitter contesting sites - Neighboring Amateur and CB operators - Frequent high-power mobile encounters Extensively tested and proven in real-world stations, the Receiver Guard works for all radios and offers the ultimate performance required by the upper tier of transceivers tested to have the best narrow-spaced third-order dynamic range or published RMDR (Reciprocal Mixing Dynamic Range). These are passive electronic limiters, so competitive contesting stations use separate band filters in addition to the Receiver Guard. When there are high levels of RF on your receive antennas, the DX Engineering Receiver Guard generates far less harmonic noise than other limiters on the market, which allows your station to continue to operate safely and competitively. At normal HF signal levels the RG5000HD operates continuously with no effect on the performance of your station while providing the best possible protection for your radio. Here are key Receiver Guard features: * Keeps stray high levels of RF from damaging your receiver input * Ideal for separate 160 and/or 80 meter receive systems with large pulse and RF energy capture area * Uses state of the art components for maximum protection of receivers * Under 6 ns response time * Multi-Stage protection * Very low insertion loss * Uses BNC type connectors to avoid accidental connection to a transmit feedline * Has been developed and tested in world-recognized multi-multi contest station K3LR Specifications - DX Engineering Receiver Guard model DXE-RG-5000HD - Frequency Range: 0.5 through 150 MHz - Insertion Loss: < 0.15 dB up to 50 MHz, < 0.3 dB 50 MHz up to 150 MHz - VSWR: < 1.2:1 - Maximum Output Level at 10 W input: +14 dBm (0.025 W) - Maximum Power Handling: 10 W CCS (Continuous Commercial Service) - Device Impedance: 50 to 75 ohms, unbalanced - Connectors, Input and Output: BNC female Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. What happens if the receive antenna is extremely close to the transmit antenna, or there is an antenna support or other system failure that causes a high RF level to enter the receive antenna input? A DX Engineering Receiver Guard can save the day! Order yours now.

QRO.cz Bias Tee Receive Feedline Voltage Injectors

QRO.cz Bias Tee Receive Feedline Voltage Injectors are engineered to inject DC voltage into a receive antenna system's coaxial cable while isolating the radio port from DC current. This allows you to power remote devices—such as preamplifiers, relays, or switching systems—without the need for separate power lines, simplifying your installation by combining RF and DC over a single coaxial feed. Typically installed at the receiving end of the coaxial cable, the bias tee passes DC power from an external source to the coax line running to the powered device. It uses a feed inductor to deliver DC to the device side and a blocking capacitor to prevent DC from reaching the radio. For added flexibility, bias tees can be used on both ends of the coaxial line to serve as DC input and output points.

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10020 AM Band Filter Module drastically reduces RF signals in the 530 to 1700 kHz MW range while passing frequencies below and above this range with minimal attenuation. A large section of the AM Broadcast Band (BCB) is attenuated by nearly 70db with a maximum of 75dB. Response rolls off quickly above 490 kHz and below 1.8 MHz. Detailed plots demonstrate the excellent performance of this AM band receiving rejection filter. The DXE-Z10020-PM RX AM Reject Filter plug-in module is our version of the 7th Order Chebyshev design built to deliver the performance of the original Clifton Labs AM Broadcast Band (BCB) filter. It provides excellent Broadcast Interference (BCI) filtering performance for Amateur low band and commercial SW receive applications, with less than 2dB insertion loss across the 160 meter band. The DXE-Z10020-PM module can be installed in the DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis to create an inline high-performance receive-only AM Band Reject Filter. Or, install one of these versatile AM filter modules inside of the DXE-RPA-2 Receive Preamplifier or the DXE-RTR-2 Receive Antenna Interface. Two AM BCB Reject Filter modules will cover the two channels of the DXE-NCC-2 Receive Antenna Phasing Unit. The legacy built by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), at Clifton Laboratories lives on with select products by DX Engineering.

DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules

DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules provide frequency-specific receiving system enhancements, which fit into special DX Engineering devices listed below. These advanced plug-in filter modules are available separately to allow any user to create a specific or customized filter with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass frequency ranges. Filter cut-off and center frequencies correspond to the major Amateur bands, 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, with filter module insertion loss of only about 1dB. By reducing or excluding frequency-specific interfering noise and signals, the noise floor can be lowered for the desired passband for dramatically improved reception DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules may be installed in these devices: DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis accepts one or two filter modules to create a stand-alone passive inline filter unit of any configuration. One high pass and one low pas can be combined to create a multi-band bandpass filter of any HF range. DXE-RPA-2-PM Modular Receive Preamplifier accepts one Receive Filter Plug-In Module to customize the preamplifier passband. DXE-NCC-2 Receive Phasing Controller can accept one or two Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, one into each, Channel A and Channel B. The DX Engineering NCC-2 is highly regarded by many owners and engineers to be the best receive phasing and noise canceling unit available and is used extensively by enthusiasts in Amateur Radio DXing, Contesting, AM DXing, and Short-Wave Listening (SWL), and is also used in commercial AM and HF broadcast applications. DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules add an extra dimension of functionality to the NCC-2, for advanced directional noise and signal nulling performance, enhanced with a specific frequency range operations. By default, NCC-2 internal option slots have bypass boards to pass all signals. Receive Filters placed into these slots dedicate the unit to filtered operation. Typically, one pair of band-pass or high-pass or low-pass filters, depending on desired filtering, is installed in the NCC-2 to suit the specific signal rejection needs of the discerning operator. As an example, an 80 meter DX enthusiast may elect to install two 80 meter band pass Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, part number DXE-R-BP80-PM, into their NCC-2 Channel A and Channel B middle slots. This dedicates their NCC-2 to 80 meter-only operations. This dramatically reduces noise and signals from outside the 80 meter band, very effectively excluding interference from nearby AM Broadcast, 160 and 40 meter stations. A much lower noise floor across 80 meters can help achieve reception of weak 80 meter DX signals. An additional pair of filters can be swapped out for a different band when desired. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. All Receive Filter Plug-In Modules displayed here are also conveniently listed on a single page linked in Documentation.
