Grounding and Lightning Protection
Georgia Copper Flexible Copper Grounding Straps
Georgia Copper Flexible Copper Straps are solid and bendable metal straps that are used to build low-inductance, high performance grounding systems. The use of these copper straps provides the best grounding systems because they have greater surface area and lower inductance per foot than the equivalent cross-section of wire. Hams find all sorts of uses for copper straps, for superior antenna feedpoint connections as well as creating a bus for grounding. Equipment racks may be bonded to ground using copper straps. Don't rely on the rack frame to provide bonding. Tie all of the power supplies, tuners, racked amplifiers, and other equipment together with low-resistance copper. Especially useful for any application outdoors and for use directly in or near soils, flexible solid copper straps will maintain a proper, low-impedance connection long after small-gauge wires and tinned copper braids have weathered and disintegrated. Copper straps are specified by communications system designers and are used extensively for above-ground and underground connections to radiators, tower and ground rods for commercial equipment rooms, sheds, and tower installations. Professional communications engineers know the value of systems that employ copper straps. They are available in various widths and at a thickness to suite your application. If you are using wire or braid at feedpoint connections or to provide grounding, equipment bonding or other critical connections for your Amateur Radio station, consider upgrading to long-lasting and solid Georgia Copper Flexible Copper Straps from DX Engineering!

ROHN 25G/45G-Series Guy Anchor Grounding Kits
ROHN 25G/45G-Series Guy Anchor Grounding Kits are so important that they are included in each ROHN 25G and 45G complete tower package. However, when purchased from ROHN separately, this part number includes only the 30 ft. of 7/16 in. ground wire, three 10 ft. copper-clad 5/8 in. ground rods and three 3/4 in. ground rod clamps. The required R-CPC.5/.75 anchor rod clamps (three) that connect to the actual Guy Anchor Rod (and are needed to complete the grounding installation) are sold separately. Also, as these kits contain items 10 ft. in length, they can only ship truck freight. Tower grounding is the single most important effort in protecting your shack from lightning. Order these ROHN 25G/45G-Series Guy Anchor Grounding Kits from DX Engineering and improve your tower grounds.

ERICO Cable to Ground Rod Molds
ERICO Cable to Ground Rod Molds allow you to produce a non-removable, permanent, exothermic connection to a ground rod that will not loosen, corrode or increase in resistance for the life of the installation. These molds, when used with the proper exothermic welding material, create a welded connection that thermally joins the wire/cable to the ground rod. These exothermic molds are ideal for non-threaded copper-bonded steel, galvanized or stainless steel ground rods from 0.5 to 0.75 in. diameter. Simply select the mold to fit your ground rod and ground conductor. ERICO Cable to Ground Rod Molds have been used for making permanent and reliable connections to ground rods for telecommunications, broadcast stations, cable television applications and electrical transmission and distribution. Builders in those applications have long known the value and quality of ERICO systems. Any outdoor connection made by mechanical-clamping methods begins to degrade from its first day of installation. ERICO has provided the industry-standard against which all other ground connections are measured. No invention or innovation has proven to be better. Now you may use ERICO products to ensure the best, most reliable and superior ground connection for your Amateur Radio station! Important note: The use of ERICO exothermic welding material in these products generates extreme heat. Please follow all manufacturer instructions carefully to ensure safe and successful application of their product. For the highest-quality ground rod connections, choose ERICO Cable to Ground Rod Molds, now available from DX Engineering!

ERICO CADWELD Grounding Connection Molds
ERICO CADWELD Grounding Connection Molds are semi-permanent graphite molds for making CADWELD connections within your grounding system. In exothermic welding, the mold controls the direction and speed of the molten CADWELD metal flow and its final shape. The graphite used in the construction of a CADWELD mold is a high-temperature type that lasts for an average of 50 or more CADWELD connections under normal usage. ERICO CADWELD Grounding Connection Molds are available for welding ground conductors to bus bars or ground lugs, making parallel wire/cable connections, "Tee" connections and "X" connections. For connection to ground rods, please see ERICO CADWELD ONE SHOT Wire to Ground Rod Clamps. These molds require the use of CADWELD welding material (weld metal) that causes the fusion of the conductors placed into the mold. CADWELD welding material provides the heat to melt the conductors and delivers additional metal to the mold as needed for a solid junction. Please click the "Documentation" tab* for additional information on items required for the use of each mold and typical application details, including mold instructions. *Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available for any item, please look at the associated files for additional product information. ERICO CADWELD products have been used in commercial grounding system construction for decades. When you need to make a lot of permanent connections in your grounding system, remember to get ERICO CADWELD Grounding Connection Molds from DX Engineering.

ERICO CADWELD PLUS Control Units
ERICO CADWELD PLUS Control Units are used to ignite the weld material in One-Shot PLUS exothermic welds. When common flint igniters are used for exothermic ignition, you must be right at the mold. That makes gloves and eye protection imperative. With CADWELD PLUS Control Units you may stand well away, providing a safety margin. CADWELD's model PLUSCU control unit comes with 8 AA batteries and will ignite about 600 One-Shot PLUS exothermic welds before battery exhaustion. These units include a 6-foot (1.8 meter) high temperature control unit lead. The lead attaches to the ignition strip using a custom made, purpose-designed termination clip. After the termination clip is installed on the ignition strip, the installer pushes and holds the ignition button to start a charging and discharging sequence. Within a few seconds the control unit sends a predetermined voltage to the ignition strip and the exothermic reaction is initiated. Once initiated, the ignition process is automatic. These control units are not for use with CADWELD One-Shot welding. Only One-Shot PLUS is designed for electronic ignition. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Accessory or replacement leads are available in 6 and 15 ft. lengths. When you want total control of your exothermic welding processes, use ERICO CADWELD PLUS Control Units, now available from DX Engineering!
