Alpha Delta UHF Connector Coaxial Cable Surge Protectors

Alpha Delta UHF Connector Coaxial Cable Surge Protectors have SO-239 connectors and are rated for 200 or 2,000 watts at frequencies up to 500 MHz. They are not DC-blocked, so they will pass control voltages in applications requiring the coaxial cable to carry both RF and DC voltage. They may be easily mounted for the most effective grounding with a 1/4-20 bolt or stud (depending on model) in a single hole or as a bulkhead-mount through the grounding panel. In a study under the auspices of the U.S. Dept. of Energy, utilizing the satellite FORTE launched in 1997 carrying VHF lightning discharge sensors, it was determined that there can be damaging lightning energy emissions throughout the 30 through 300 MHz VHF spectrum. Before FORTE, it was thought that most lightning energy emissions were primarily in the VLF range. Therefore, the damage threat can be anywhere from VLF through VHF. Through the careful design of the Alpha Delta Arc-Plug® gas tube module and precision, constant impedance through-line allowing proper firing characteristics, these devices are designed to provide effective protection throughout this entire spectrum. Other surge protector designs may only utilize simple VLF filters with no gas tube backup. Additional features include: * Excellent broadband performance from DC through 500 MHz, compared to the narrow-band DC-blocked or stub designs. * Innovative impedance compensated through-line cavity design allows control voltages to pass through the device, instead of the "wire-around" requirement of DC-blocked designs. This design allows "in-circuit" cable sweeps. * Innovative, fast-acting gas tube replaceable Arc-Plug® module can be removed and replaced in the field in about one minute with no tools required, and without having to remove the protector from the circuit. The "O" ring sealed knurled knob does the trick! * The Arc-Plug® modules and connectors are "O" ring sealed for complete weatherproofing. * Effective performance. Due to the carefully designed reactance-compensated, through-line cavity and Arc-Plug® module placement, customer and government test approvals show this design is as good as, or better than, DC-blocked designs. Lightning surges do lots of damage annually. Protect your equipment from surges with Alpha Delta UHF Connector Coaxial Cable Surge Protectors from DX Engineering!

DX Engineering Utility Enclosure Kits

DX Engineering Utility Enclosure Kits are ideal for the outdoor mounting of many types of lightning protectors or other equipment. This enclosure and grounding plate kit accommodates coaxial protectors with a flange mount or bracket so connectors are parallel with the grounding plate. (Bulkhead protectors that mount the connector through a grounding panel cannot be used.) DX Engineering DXE-UE-2P Utility Enclosure kits are manufactured from weather-resistant, high-impact thermoplastic material that protects the inside components against rain and directed water spray. The housing and wire entrance grommet materials used in the enclosure are fire-retardant and UV-stabilized and resist degradation from weathering, environmental contaminants, chemical fertilizers, and insecticide sprays. The exterior of the housing may be painted with latex or oil base paints if needed to help blend into the location. Because these kits have many potential applications, no holes have been drilled in the enclosure. However, mounting holes have been pre-drilled in the aluminum mounting plate. Four of the six sheet metal screws are included to secure the mounting plate to the enclosure; the other two sheet metal screws are for mounting the copper strap clamp to the mounting plate. Watertight feedthrough couplers mount to the top of the enclosure; drilling or cutting with a hole saw is required. Eleven port openings exist in the bottom--two are large for conduit coaxial entry/exit, and nine are smaller for coaxial cable, rotor cable, Telco lines, and more. All openings are sealed by a weathertight foam insert. PolyPhaser Coaxial Lightning Protectors

PolyPhaser Coaxial Lightning Protectors are designed for general, single-transmitter use in the 1.5 to 700 MHz frequency range. PolyPhaser protectors are available in two mounting styles: "Bulkhead Mount" protectors have a longer connector and hardware to mount it through the grounding panel. "Flange Mount" protectors anchor to a grounding panel with both connectors parallel to a flat surface. PolyPhaser Coaxial Lightning Protectors use a DC blocked specially configured gas tube design that has no DC continuity between the two center pins. PolyPhaser's multi-strike products are designed to pass RF frequencies and block all DC. These protectors appear as a DC open between surge and protected ports and offer industry-standard protection. PolyPhaser protectors are suitable for all types of antennas, even "floating" antennas that are not DC grounded. With PolyPhaser DC Blocked protectors, any slow voltage build up from wind driven rain, snow or dust, will not get to the equipment. As the protector reaches threshold for turn-on in a dc blocked circuit, it will go into a momentary soft turn-on as the gas barely ionizes and bleeds the static charge to ground. This does not create noise since it will not get to the arc mode and lasts only a short time. PolyPhaser protection devices have been chosen and specified by communications systems engineers and technicians for 24/7 service in broadcasting, commercial, military and government installations. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Trusted by Amateur Radio operators for over 40 years, PolyPhaser Coaxial Lightning Protectors are ready for your antenna system installations. They are available here, at DX Engineering.

DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector

Built by popular demand, the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector is ready to be placed in line with your balanced feedline antenna system! For many years, hams have asked us for a surge protector for use with their 300 ohm and 450 ohm ladder line fed antennas. Decades ago automotive spark plugs or arc gaps were used for shunting lightning pulses from balanced feeders to ground. But, you never really knew if they were going to work, if they really were continuing to work or if they were affecting the tuning. Here is the modern approach to providing surge protection for ladder line fed antennas. Made with components similar to those used in coaxial protectors, the DXE-LLSP uses much larger capacitors, resistors and gas discharge tubes on each leg of the ladder line to offer excellent surge protection capabilities at high SWR. These components are rated to handle 5 kW, so this protector will easily handle well over legal limit RF power at the high standing wave ratios expected on balanced line. Plus, the Ladder Line Surge Protector bleeds off the static charge that is collected on your antenna from wind driven sand, rain and snow! The DXE-LLSP Ladder Line Surge Protector is built to sustain multiple minor surges. As with any surge protector, there is no guarantee that a direct hit from lightning will be stopped. A replacement parts kit is also available to refurbish your pulse damaged protector: DXE-LLSP-RP Features of the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector: • Standard size NEMA enclosure; 4 x 4 x 2 in. nominal box dimensions; mounting tab holes on centers: 4.625 x 2.125 in. • Works with 450 ohm or 300 ohm Ladder Line and 600 ohm open-wire feeder • Internal Gas Discharge Tubes, Capacitors and Resistors • Can withstand multiple minor surges and shunts them to ground • Bleeds off static charge collected from wind driven snow, rain and sand • Weep holes allow any buildup of internal moisture to drain out • Handles well over legal limit at high SWR as expected on balanced line NOTE: The DXE-LLSP is an RF only device that does not carry DC voltage. Therefore it cannot be tested with a multimeter. It must be tested with an analyzer and a 300 ohm resistor, or by connecting an antenna feedline. If there is infinite SWR or no receive, the components have been damaged by lightning pulse energy and need to be replaced with the DXE-LLSP-RP Ladder Line Surge Protector Replacement Parts Kit. Order the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector for your balanced feedline antenna system today!

DX Engineering Radio RF Ground Plane Kits

DX Engineering Radio RF Ground Plane Kits provide an effective method of reducing stray RF pickup by equipment and interconnecting cables. Used under and connected to radio equipment, these 1/16 inch thick, pre-drilled aluminum or copper sheets create an RF reference plane that is also connected to the existing grounding bus. As described in the ARRL's "Grounding and Bonding for the Radio Amateur 2nd Edition" by H. Ward Silver, N0AX; a large surface area of metal improves upon the single conductor grounding buss by equalizing the RF E-field (electric field) around equipment and attached cables. This reduces voltage differences between pieces of equipment and the associated currents that cause RF interference to transceivers, microphones and accessories. The reduction in RF interference improves both transmitted and received signal quality. Radio RF Ground Plane Kits are available in 12 versions; three sizes of aluminum or copper plate with hardware and the same three sizes of aluminum or copper plates with companion mounting boards made of 1/2 inch thick Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), with hardware. All kits are intended for indoor use only. As used by top contesters and DXers alike, a flat metal sheet placed under equipment, along with physically short grounding braids, wires and interconnection cables can significantly reduce the RF voltage differences between cables and equipment. The chance of RF trouble in your equipment is reduced by installing DX Engineering Radio RF Ground Plane Kits in your station.

Georgia Copper Flexible Ground Strap Jumpers

Georgia Copper Flexible Ground Strap Jumpers are excellent for low impedance outdoor grounding and HF antenna feedpoint and radial system connections. Even weathered to a dull patina, copper strap does not lose its low impedance advantages over wire or cables, for DC and AC through HF and VHF. Plus, flexible copper strap is far superior to tinned copper braid, which holds moisture and disintegrates which causes a undesirable increase in connection impedance over a relatively short time. Flexible SOLID Copper Strap Jumpers come in pre-cut lengths at 1 in. or 3/4 in. widths and 0.022 in. thickness, punched with 0.280 in. holes at each end, to accommodate 1/4 in. bolts. They're available in two-packs at six different lengths, 6 in., 12 in., 24 in., 36 in., 48 in., 72 in. and also in a variety pack that contains one piece of all six lengths. Order and use any of these specific length straps for your project. Or, use your tin snips and your imagination to make all types of low impedance connections for surge protection grounding boxes and panels, protectors, equipment racks, vertical antenna feedpoints, radial system connections and antenna feedpoint connections from a bolt terminal balun to the driven elements. This pre-cut copper strap may also be used as a shack ground bus or for the bus bar connection to the station ground rod or rods. Hobbyists and Electricians order extra copper straps to have on hand and be ready for those grounding and antenna connection projects that come up. Georgia Copper Ground Strap Jumpers are here at DX Engineering, ready for your needs.

DX Engineering's Aluminum Radio RF Ground Plane Kits

DX Engineering's Aluminum Radio RF Ground Plane Kits provide an effective method of reducing stray RF pickup by equipment and interconnecting cables. Used under and in back of equipment, this 1/16 inch thick, pre-drilled aluminum sheet creates an RF reference plane that is typically connected to the existing grounding bus, and provides an economical alternative to a copper sheet. As described in the ARRL book "Grounding and Bonding for the Radio Amateur, 2nd Edition" by H. Radio RF Ground Plane Kits are available in 12 versions; three sizes of copper or aluminum plate with hardware and the same three sizes of copper or aluminum plates with companion mounting boards made of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), with hardware. All kits are intended for indoor use only. As used by top contesters and DXers alike, a flat metal sheet placed under equipment, along with physically short grounding braids, wires and interconnection cables can significantly reduce the RF voltage differences between cables and equipment. The chance of RF trouble in your equipment is reduced by installing DX Engineering Aluminum Radio RF Ground Plane Kits in your station.
