DX Engineering Control Line Terminal Boards
DX Engineering Control Line Terminal Boards are designed to provide a flexible and simplified approach to control line surge protection. The DXE-CLTB is a small, 3 inch square printed circuit board (PCB) with four ten-wire compression screw terminal blocks that handle from 14 to 26 AWG conductors and up to 10A. The two outer terminal blocks are for input and output of the control wires and the two 45 degree angled ten-wire compression screw terminal blocks are for connecting the required number of individual electronic surge protection components. This provides for the choice of components to install between the control line and ground for shunt protection. Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV), Gas Discharge Tube (GDT), EMP Suppressor TVS Diodes, RF Bypass Capacitors and other wire lead components are easily connected between each control line conductor and ground with the DXE-CLTB. This open-board, no-chassis concept allows easy mounting on a single point grounding panel, to support simplified inspection and exchange of control line electronic surge protection components that should be done on a regular basis. For effective protection wherever electronic devices are used as a shunt to ground, a low impedance ground is crucial. The DXE-CLTB Control Line Terminal Board has four corner ground plane screw holes. It includes a hardware kit of four self-tapping screws, spacers and external tooth washers, for mounting the PCB on a metal grounding panel inside an enclosure. The DXE-CLTB-M Control Line Terminal Board also includes a 10-pack of MOVs. The following components are available separately for a variety protection projects: DXE-MOV-82VDC-10 Metal Oxide Varistor, Surge Protector, max. 82VDC/50VAC Pack of 10 DXE-GDT-4KV-5 Gas Discharge Tube, Surge Arrestor, 4kV, Pack of 5 DXE-TVS-1500-10 ESD Suppressor, TVS Diode, Bidirectional, 17VDC max., Pack of 10 DXE-CAP-PT1UF-10 Capacitor, Ceramic, 0.1uf, 1kV DC, RF Bypass, Pack of 10

DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector
Built by popular demand, the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector is ready to be placed in line with your balanced feedline antenna system! For many years, hams have asked us for a surge protector for use with their 300 ohm and 450 ohm ladder line fed antennas. Decades ago automotive spark plugs or arc gaps were used for shunting lightning pulses from balanced feeders to ground. But, you never really knew if they were going to work, if they really were continuing to work or if they were affecting the tuning. Here is the modern approach to providing surge protection for ladder line fed antennas. Made with components similar to those used in coaxial protectors, the DXE-LLSP uses much larger capacitors, resistors and gas discharge tubes on each leg of the ladder line to offer excellent surge protection capabilities at high SWR. These components are rated to handle 5 kW, so this protector will easily handle well over legal limit RF power at the high standing wave ratios expected on balanced line. Plus, the Ladder Line Surge Protector bleeds off the static charge that is collected on your antenna from wind driven sand, rain and snow! The DXE-LLSP Ladder Line Surge Protector is built to sustain multiple minor surges. As with any surge protector, there is no guarantee that a direct hit from lightning will be stopped. A replacement parts kit is also available to refurbish your pulse damaged protector: DXE-LLSP-RP Features of the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector: • Standard size NEMA enclosure; 4 x 4 x 2 in. nominal box dimensions; mounting tab holes on centers: 4.625 x 2.125 in. • Works with 450 ohm or 300 ohm Ladder Line and 600 ohm open-wire feeder • Internal Gas Discharge Tubes, Capacitors and Resistors • Can withstand multiple minor surges and shunts them to ground • Bleeds off static charge collected from wind driven snow, rain and sand • Weep holes allow any buildup of internal moisture to drain out • Handles well over legal limit at high SWR as expected on balanced line NOTE: The DXE-LLSP is an RF only device that does not carry DC voltage. Therefore it cannot be tested with a multimeter. It must be tested with an analyzer and a 300 ohm resistor, or by connecting an antenna feedline. If there is infinite SWR or no receive, the components have been damaged by lightning pulse energy and need to be replaced with the DXE-LLSP-RP Ladder Line Surge Protector Replacement Parts Kit. Alpha Delta UHF Connector Coaxial Cable Surge Protectors
Alpha Delta UHF Connector Coaxial Cable Surge Protectors have SO-239 connectors and are rated for 200 or 2,000 watts at frequencies up to 500 MHz. They are not DC-blocked, so they will pass control voltages in applications requiring the coaxial cable to carry both RF and DC voltage. They may be easily mounted for the most effective grounding with a 1/4-20 bolt or stud (depending on model) in a single hole or as a bulkhead-mount through the grounding panel. In a study under the auspices of the U.S. Dept. of Energy, utilizing the satellite FORTE launched in 1997 carrying VHF lightning discharge sensors, it was determined that there can be damaging lightning energy emissions throughout the 30 through 300 MHz VHF spectrum. Before FORTE, it was thought that most lightning energy emissions were primarily in the VLF range. Therefore, the damage threat can be anywhere from VLF through VHF. Through the careful design of the Alpha Delta Arc-Plug® gas tube module and precision, constant impedance through-line allowing proper firing characteristics, these devices are designed to provide effective protection throughout this entire spectrum. Other surge protector designs may only utilize simple VLF filters with no gas tube backup. Additional features include: * Excellent broadband performance from DC through 500 MHz, compared to the narrow-band DC-blocked or stub designs. * Innovative impedance compensated through-line cavity design allows control voltages to pass through the device, instead of the "wire-around" requirement of DC-blocked designs. This design allows "in-circuit" cable sweeps. * Innovative, fast-acting gas tube replaceable Arc-Plug® module can be removed and replaced in the field in about one minute with no tools required, and without having to remove the protector from the circuit. The "O" ring sealed knurled knob does the trick! * The Arc-Plug® modules and connectors are "O" ring sealed for complete weatherproofing. * Effective performance. Due to the carefully designed reactance-compensated, through-line cavity and Arc-Plug® module placement, customer and government test approvals show this design is as good as, or better than, DC-blocked designs. Lightning surges do lots of damage annually. Protect your equipment from surges with Alpha Delta UHF Connector Coaxial Cable Surge Protectors from DX Engineering!

DX Engineering Utility Enclosure Kits
DX Engineering Utility Enclosure Kits are ideal for the outdoor mounting of many types of lightning protectors or other equipment. This enclosure and grounding plate kit accommodates coaxial protectors with a flange mount or bracket so connectors are parallel with the grounding plate. (Bulkhead protectors that mount the connector through a grounding panel cannot be used.) DX Engineering DXE-UE-2P Utility Enclosure kits are manufactured from weather-resistant, high-impact thermoplastic material that protects the inside components against rain and directed water spray. The housing and wire entrance grommet materials used in the enclosure are fire-retardant and UV-stabilized and resist degradation from weathering, environmental contaminants, chemical fertilizers, and insecticide sprays. The exterior of the housing may be painted with latex or oil base paints if needed to help blend into the location. Because these kits have many potential applications, no holes have been drilled in the enclosure. However, mounting holes have been pre-drilled in the aluminum mounting plate. Four of the six sheet metal screws are included to secure the mounting plate to the enclosure; the other two sheet metal screws are for mounting the copper strap clamp to the mounting plate. Watertight feedthrough couplers mount to the top of the enclosure; drilling or cutting with a hole saw is required. Eleven port openings exist in the bottom--two are large for conduit coaxial entry/exit, and nine are smaller for coaxial cable, rotor cable, Telco lines, and more. All openings are sealed by a weathertight foam insert. NOTE: The DXE-UE-2P accommodates coaxial protectors that have a Flange Mount bracket, or those that work with an accessory bracket, to mount the connectors parallel with the grounding plate. Bulkhead Mount protectors that place a connector through the grounding plate cannot be used. These kits include: * 13 in. W x 14 in. H x 4 in. D enclosure (11-1/2 in. W x 11 in. H x 3-1/8 in. D) * 6 stainless steel hex washer head slotted sheet metal #8 x 1/2 in. screws * 8 in. W x 11.0 in. H x 1/8 in. D pre-drilled 6061-T6 aluminum mounting plate * Four weathertight coaxial cable feedthrough couplers, ideal for most RG8U or RG-213 sized coaxial cable * One 2 in. x 1/2 in. x 1/8 in. thick copper strap clamp with two drilled holes Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. The DXE-UCGC-Z Copper Grounding Clamp Features: - Mounts up to six protectors onto one ground rod - Fits common standard 5/8 in. through 3/4 in. diameter ground rods - Made from 1/16 in. thick Copper Alloy 110 for maximum conductivity -"Z" bends in the copper for easier installation and removal of coax connectors on protectors - Easy to assemble two-piece construction. Each plate is approximately 3-1/4 in. wide x 4-3/16 in. tall - Stainless Steel hardware is included: Four 1/4 in.-20 x 3/4 in. long hex head bolts, eight 1/4 in. flat washers, four 1/4 in.-20 Nyloc hex nuts - Using this copper clamp is faster and easier than building up the joint for an exothermic weld The DXE-UCGC-Z can easily mount up to six lightning protectors. The photo shows two DX Engineering and two PolyPhaser lightning protectors installed on a DXE-UCGC-Z mounted to a 5/8 in. diameter ground rod. Other lightning protection products can also be mounted, such as the DXE-IS-RCT Control Line Protector and Alpha Delta Lightning Protectors. Additionally, a solid copper strap from the station grounding bus bar may also be sandwiched between the copper plates of this clamp and the ground rod (not shown). An anti-seize compound such as JTL-12555 Jet Lube SS-30 Pure Copper Anti-Seize must be used on the threads to prevent galling or seizing of stainless steel hardware. All connections must be generously coated with a conductive joint compound to prevent moisture penetration and enhance conductivity. Properly weatherproofing coaxial cables and lightning protectors is important to ensure the longevity of the connection and maintain optimal performance. Prior to attaching the lightning protectors, install the coaxial cables to the lightning protectors and weather seal the PL-259 connectors using TES-2155 Temflex Rubber Sealing Tape with an overwrap of TES-06132 3M Super 33+ Vinyl Tape or 3M Scotch Super 88 Premium Vinyl Tape (TES-06143). These easily removable connector sealing tapes are now available in kits. The lightning protector bodies are not weatherproof and it is suggested to use a DX Engineering Weatherproofing Kits to permanently cover the body of the protectors. Some users have also suggested covering the entire assembly with a plastic food container or plastic trash bin As with all electronic equipment, take proper safety considerations. For example: Do not install if there is a storm anywhere in your area. Do not adjust or touch the grounding system equipment when there is a storm anywhere in your area. Make sure all power is removed before making any adjustments or working on any ground system or grounding components. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Complete your coaxial cable grounding installation with DX Engineering UCGC-Z Universal Copper Grounding Clamps.
