They connect directly to the antenna or coaxial cable and send a very low power variable RF signal which is measured and displayed in several ways. Some analyzers simply show SWR and combined impedance on a single adjustable frequency. Several advanced models offer sophisticated sweep frequency graphing displays which are actually much easier to read and use than older style units. Many analyzers feature the capability of accurately displaying the individual components of complex impedance; resistance, reactance, capacitance and inductance, as well as return loss or SWR. Some analyzer models measure coaxial cable loss and the distance to an open or a short. USB equipped models can export their frequency sweep files to a PC or laptop. Bluetooth capable analyzer models can send those files wirelessly to an equipped mobile phone, tablet, laptop or PC! Both casual antenna users and tinkering enthusiasts are covered.
