LDG Electronics TW-1 Talking SWR/Wattmeters
LDG Electronics TW-1 Talking SWR/Wattmeters provide an aural spoken indication of power and SWR using a digitally recorded voice. It is ideal for the visually impaired or for those times when you need to look elsewhere while still obtaining power and SWR measurements. At the press of a button, the TW-1 speaks the forward power, reverse power or SWR. Three languages are available: English, Spanish and German and it includes an internal top firing speaker; no external audio hookups are needed. The TW-1 also offers a continuous tone mode for tuning. Simply press and hold the Forward button and a tone indicates power. As you adjust your amplifier or antenna tuner, a higher tone indicates higher power. This is perfect for peaking your amplifier while keeping a close watch on the grid current. You can select either long or short voice reports (verbose or terse modes). Long reports include descriptors like "thousand" or "hundred" and end with "forward watts" or "reverse watts". Short reports speak only the numerical value of the measurement you've selected for a quick reading. The TW-1 needs just 1W to operate, but will handle up to 2000W PEP, making it suitable for everything from QRP to full legal limit. The TW-1 is accurate to ± 5% of reading across the entire power range and resolution is 1W or 1% of reading (whichever is higher). The microprocessor controlled TW-1 can easily be upgraded in the field with a simple chip exchange. It requires 11-15VDC at 200mA maximum (power supply not included) but consumes minimal current when not speaking. Suitable for mobile use, simply install it in a convenient location near your operating position and provide 12VDC through a fused line (fuse not included, LDG recommends a 2 amp fast-blow fuse). SWR Tone mode is especially useful for tuning a "screwdriver" antenna while watching the road. (LDG strongly recommends that you pull over to a complete stop before adjusting your antenna) The November 2005 issue of QST Magazine features an exhaustive review of the TW-1 starting on page 77. DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas
DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas are designs that are rugged, yet lightweight. Using a tuner, they are usable to 30 MHz and come complete with the wire elements, ladder feedline, center T support, and end mount brackets. These antennas are built using the highest quality components. They use 14 AWG stranded-copper, PVC jacketed elements for flexibility and strength and 100 ft. of 18 AWG 300-ohm 0.88 Velocity Factor ladder lines that are UV-resistant. Stainless steel hardware is included. Often, a 4:1 balun is suggested for multi-band dipoles; however, the best balun to use for this application is a 1:1 ratio. The 1:1 baluns provide better balance, have lower loss, and are more tolerant to load impedance and balance variations than other baluns. A tuner balun is not included in the dipole antenna kits and is available separately. The dipole center T support has pre-drilled holes for the attachment of the wire elements, feedline, and support or messenger lines. The center support top hole is used for the attachment of a "messenger line" that can be strung above the antenna wire and is used to provide support for the antenna wire and feedline. The use of the messenger line, which is strongly recommended but not included, will reduce the stress on the element wires and keep the antenna from stretching over time, which will change its resonant frequency. This line can be thin Synthetic Textile rope available from DX Engineering, which has a high breaking strength. Ideally, it should attach to the same structure used for the dipole, only above it, forming at least a 30 degree angle between the dipole and the messenger line. For further information and to decide the amount of rope you will need, please read the included instructions and check your wire antenna area of construction. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. DX Engineering Feedpoint Connectors
DX Engineering Feedpoint Connectors provide a direct transition from coaxial cable to feedpoint for Yagi, Loop Fed Arrays (LFA), Rotatable Dipoles and other antennas that do not have a coaxial connector. Three Feedpoint Connector types are available; SO-239 UHF Female, Type-N Female and 7-16 DIN Female. Each Feedpoint Connector (FPC) features silver-soldered solid tinned-copper 12 AWG wire leads to the connector, which is epoxy potted into a plastic housing, 1.573 inch square and 0.787 inch deep, for a weather-sealed direct feedpoint connection. Of course, additional weatherproofing should be applied to the male to female connector junction, as is typically suggested. DX Engineering Feedpoint Connectors' two wire leads are about 4 in. each, for connection to balanced driven elements of beams and rotatable dipoles on which a coaxial connector does not exist. A longer length of wire is easily soldered to these tinned wires, if required, but increasing connection spacing drives up feedpoint impedance and increases the possibility of mismatch. An appropriate center insulator kit, such as the DXE-UWA-KIT and coaxial cable strain relief, DXE-CSR213-1, can accommodate the use of Feedpoint Connectors SO-239 UHF Female, Type-N and 7-16DIN for specialized and high power wire antennas, also accommodating a ferrite RF Bead Choke on the RG-213U size coax cable, 0.405 in. diameter.

PicoAPRS-Lite APRS Transceiver Module - the little brother of the popular PicoAPRS. This is a tiny APRS tracker weighing just 7.2 grams*! Even though the PicoAPRS-Lite was developed with balloon flights with APRS payload (Pico balloons and stratosphere balloons) in mind, it can naturally also be used for many more APRS purposes. Thanks to its small measurements of just 27.8 x 66.9 x 6.3mm this tiny tracker can, for example, be installed nearly invisibly in cars. This allows for APRS usage without annoying wiring in the car or too short antenna cables. You can even carry the tracker around in your pocket! An SMA antenna jack is offered separately since its weight of about 2 grams is an unnecessary extra load for the light Pico balloons. This is also the reason why the tracker is being delivered without a case. Special functions of the PicoAPRS-Lite: - Automatic or manual frequency tuning on request. E.g. automatic for worldwide balloon flights. - In areas without APRS coverage and with automatic frequency tuning the ISS APRS frequency is used to be heard even in these situations. - Temperature and air pressure sensor. The values will be sent as an APRS comment in every position. - As an energy source a small solar cell with buffer capacitor can be used, as well as single-use or rechargeable batteries. - Voltage range ca. 3.2 - 5V. - When using a solar cell the PicoARPS-Lite will stay in battery-saving mode use only about 0.1mA until the buffer capacitor has stored enough charge, then sends a beacon and will go back into battery-saving mode to recharge for another beacon if needed. - Even with just one solar cell which supplies the buffer capacitor with just a tiny amount of current it can operate forever in sunshine! Ideal for a world trip with a balloon. - Even when using batteries the energy-saving mode will be used between beacon transmissions to extend the battery's lifetime. - Micro USB port for settings configuration with a terminal software. - Integrated GPS module with balloon mode up to 80km height, ideal for stratosphere balloons. - Transmission power configurable between 0.5 and 1W. - 7-pole lowpass filter to eliminate unwanted spurious emission. Status LED - Firmware updates via USB possible. Future wishes of users and product improvements can be uploaded later. Beware that this device has no voltage regulation! When operating with a solar panel and buffer capacitor the service voltage will usually drop to zero at night. With sunrise the device will be operational soon again. It's important that the tracker can be used with as little power as possible. A voltage regulator would cause a voltage drop which would be inconvenient during sunrise/sundown. To limit the maximum operating voltage a beacon will automatically be transmitted when reaching about 5V in balloon solar mode to use up stored energy. Doing so the maximum operating voltage won't be exceeded even when the idle solar cell provides too much voltage. *1) Weight without antenna jack, case or any energy source. Suggest accessories to be obtained from other sources: - SMA jack for circuit board mounting, upright, with long thread, for single hole fixing.
