DX Engineering AVA-3 Active Matching Units

DX Engineering AVA-3 Active Matching Units are state-of-the-art broadband receive RF operational amplifiers that achieve unparalleled weak signal reception across the radio frequency range from 40 kHz* to 30 MHz. They work as a high impedance buffer between a short antenna element of 6 to 24 feet and an economical 75 ohm feedline. The AVA-3 and a short element are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. The gain adjustable AVA-3 is the sole upgrade and drop-in replacement for all discontinued receive array element amplifiers including Hi-Z Antennas AMP, PLUS6-AMP, AMP-V2 and AMP-PLUS-V2 as well as DXE-AVA-2 and AVA-1. The DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit is the heart of the new line of DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas, DXE-RSEAV-1. Compared to large antennas, this amplified short element method dramatically improves signal-to-noise performance for excellent VLF, LF and HF weak signal reception. The AVA-3 Active Matching Unit provides these features and benefits: • Ultimate frequency coverage of 40 kHz* to 30 MHz for VLF through HF (including the 2200m and 630m Amateur bands) • High Third Order Intercept (TOI) Performance +39dBm for superior strong signal handling equal to top transceivers • Consistent unit to unit gain for greatly improved array performance • Virtually Flat Gain (+/-0.4 dBm) across the entire frequency range • Internally settable gain (default -6, 0, or +6 dBm) for different ambient noise locations and element sizes • Direct DC via second F connector – internal settable choice for separate DC and RF coaxial cables for best performance, or standard Bias Tee DC on the RF coax • Each DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit operates on 12 -15 VDC at 25mA • Element is grounded when power is removed • 75 ohm F connectors support field serviceable RG-6 Quad Shield suitable up to 1,000 feet for VLF through HF *Frequency coverage below 200 kHz requires Direct DC on a separate DC only coaxial cable. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace and upgrade all the element amplifiers in the array with fully compatible DXE-AVA-3 units.

Since DX Engineering manufactures the RF-PRO-1B® Active Magnetic Loop Receive Antenna, we can offer these RF PRO Loop Replacement Components. Available for refurbishing Pixel, InLogis or DX Engineering Active Magnetic Loops, choose one or more of these individual "Original Equipment" components, component set or handy accessory pack that fills your needs. 1. DXE-RFPRO1B-PA Receive Preamplifier has this new part number for the preamp unit only. This is the weatherproof, metal-encased replacement RF PRO 1B Receive Preamplifier that mounts directly onto the loop bracket. Mounting hardware is not included with this replacement low-noise preamp, but it is available in the… 2. DXE-RFPRO1B-OAP Outdoor Accessory Pack. This package contains the insulated shoulder washers, flat washers and nuts to properly mount the preamp. Also included in this outdoor package for the loop installation are the mast mounting V-Bolts and Saddles and the short RG-6 F connector jumper to connect the loop to the preamp, and weather sealer. User supplied RG-6 coaxial cable is used for the long feedline that is run inside to the… 3. DXE-RFPRO1B-PI Power Inserter. This is the indoor unit that puts a well filtered and regulated 20 Vdc power onto the feedline for the preamp. It carries the loop RF to the receiver via the F connector. This unit also disables the power to the preamp when it is keyed by the transceiver amplifier keying line. The Power Inserter is run on 24 Vac from the… 4. DXE-PSW-24A-6AU AC Adapter. This clean power supply is a linear transformer that converts 120 Vac to the 24 Vac at 600 mA required by the Power Inserter. It is has the attached 2.1mm power connector. 5. DXE-RFPRO1B-IAP Indoor Accessory Pack contains the cables and adapter to connect the transceiver RF and keying lines to the Power Inserter. The F connector coaxial cable connects RF from the Inserter to the radio. A supplied F female to PL-259 adapter facilitates that connection, should you radio need it. An RCA phono patch cable is supplied for keying the Power Inserter and a RCA phono y-adapter provides the additional keying line connection for a power amplifier. 6. DXE-RF-30B Complete Component Package is for a system replacement where only an existing RF PRO 1B Loop is available. DX Engineering Receive Short Element Mounting Plates DXE-RSE-IMB is a package of two of the "insulated mounting board" replacement part for DXE-RSEAV-1 series receive verticals and for separately purchased DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit or a legacy AVA-2. This item also serves as a replacement for a damaged or lost plate for legacy model ARAV4 Active antennas. The DXE-RSE-IMB are pre-drilled poly-resin insulated plastic mounting plates, with dimensions of: WHD: 4.500 x 8.625 x 0.250 in. (114 x 219 x 6.35mm). NOTE: DXE-RSE-IMB has no hardware included. If a replacement plate with hardware is required, order DXE-RSE-R which mounts the aluminum antenna element, DXE-RSE-A, and the DXE-AVA-3 to a ground rod using DX Engineering clamps. DX Engineering builds the best-engineered and toughest active antennas in the world. That said, we realized that our brass mounting blocks for the whips used on the active antennas might occasionally need replaced. On the other hand, we support more antenna builders and experimenters with our antenna parts than any other supplier. We looked at the mounting block and understood that this piece, with its handy .250 in. mounting holes and standard whip/mobile-mount thread, could be a useful part to have in general antenna experimentation! DX Engineering Active Receive Vertical Replacement Tubing, model DXE-ARAV-A, is provided for those who might need to replace damaged or lost aluminum tubing for their current model DXE-ARAV4 series Active Receive Vertical antenna. This is NOT the Retrofit Kit. For the conversion of older Active Receive Verticals, see the DXE-ARAV-R which includes a new mounting plate and tubing element. This DXE-ARAV-A kit contains the three 36 in. aluminum sections, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch, as well as a complete set of new stainless steel element hardware. The required Allen wrenches are also included. The assembled length of this replacement element is 8 feet 6 inches, the same as the original.
