HO LOOPs transmit and receive horizontally polarized signals that are required for weak signal operation, where verticals are not effective. Horizontal polarity permits HO LOOPs to add upwards of 5dB of ground gain that verticals cannot. As with most horizontally polarized antennas, performance improves dramatically with height above ground, especially on VHF and UHF bands.
Physically, the HO LOOP Antennas are square, fabricated from two 3/8 in. diameter aluminum tubes to minimize losses. Their sealed feed block provides weather protection with minimum wind drag. The heart of this unique design is the shorted stub matching to a 50 ohm coaxial feedline. They are lightweight and have very low wind area, which makes them ideal for stacking in base or mobile operations. Mounting is via a single 3/8 in. hole that is standard for most mobile hardware, with optional mounting hardware available for base* or mobile installations, as shown. Minimum vehicle mounting height and stacking separation dimensions are displayed in the details for each HO LOOP. Gain figures appear below and in their Instruction Manuals.
*NOTE: Mounting of HO-LOOPS on a 1-1/4 to 2 inch mast for base operations requires the optional MSQ-MASTBRKTKIT.

Gain figures for each loop at specific heights above ground for mobile operations. However, loop installations for base operations should be as high above ground as possible, just as though it were a beam (but no rotator required).
50 MHz Gain: Single HO Loop at 11 ft. is 4.2 dBd at 25 deg.; Stack of 2 HO Loops at 40 ft. and 52 ft. is 8.2 dBd at 6 deg.
144 MHz Gain: Single HO Loop at 10 ft. is 4.0 dBd at10 deg.; Stack of 2 HO Loops at 82 in. and 132 in. is 8 dBd at 9 deg.
222 MHz Gain: Single HO Loop at 84 in. is 4.7 dBd at 7 deg.; Stack of 2 HO Loops at 84 in. and 117 in. is 8.2 dBd at 7 deg.
432 MHz Gain: Single HO Loop at 86 in. is 5.0 dBd at 4 deg.; Stack of 2 HO Loops at 84 in. and 100 in. is 8.8 dBd at 4 deg.
