DX Engineering 160 Meter THUNDERBOLT® Vertical Antennas
DX Engineering 160 Meter THUNDERBOLT® Vertical Antennas are high-performance antennas specifically designed for use on Top Band. You will achieve the strongest possible presence at your power level and be competitive with a 160 meter vertical monoband antenna that is only 55 feet tall! A custom-designed capacity hat system allows you to get on 160 meters with unparalleled performance. Wires and ropes have been accentuated in our product image for your viewing clarity. They are much less visible in an actual installation with minimal visual impact for such a large antenna. DX Engineering 160 Meter THUNDERBOLT® Vertical Antennas are tunable with an impressive 40 kHz bandwidth. This means that operation on the CW DX frequencies and DX Phone frequencies are within the range of most internal tuners - no physical changes to the antenna are necessary. DX Engineering DXE-160VA-1, made with sectional aluminum tubing, is a 55-foot high Monoband Vertical Antenna system with a massive 3-inch OD base section. Included with this antenna system is a rugged, patented* stainless steel pivot fixture for ease of raising, lowering and tuning adjustments. Engineered with 6061-T8 and 6063-T832 corrosion-resistant aluminum tubing, stainless steel mounting brackets and stainless steel hardware, this antenna is very durable and attractive. Why Does This Antenna Perform So Well for Its Height? The top capacity hat is large enough that the current along the radiator is almost constant. Typical shortened verticals for this band, with smaller top-hats, have currents that vary along the length and end up producing much less signal strength. This also works in the receive mode to let you hear weaker signals, although at this frequency range dedicated receiving antennas are almost a must. See DX Engineering's full line of Receive Antennas and Array Systems. DX Engineering 160 Meter THUNDERBOLT® Vertical Antennas feature: * High Efficiency Design * 5 kW SSB and CW rated * Unparalleled reliability * Custom designed capacity hat engineered for top performance * DX Engineering Adjustable Matching Network configures the lowest SWR * Broad 2:1 SWR bandwidth - 40 kHz - CW + DX Phone * Lowest possible take-off angle reduces domestic QRM signals * Easy tilt up and down-- Unique fold-over antenna mount features DX Engineering's patented pivoting fixture, *U.S. Patent Number 8,130,168 * High power handling and high strength, UV protected EXTREN® insulators * Ultra-rugged construction starts with 3 inch OD Aircraft Grade heavy wall tubing * Withstands steady-state winds in excess of 50 mph The optional DXE-VRW-1 Manual Winch for easy one-person raising and lowering of the antenna is available from DX Engineering. You can move the DXE-VRW-1 winch between similar antennas in a multi-antenna installation. This antenna system requires the installation of a heavy duty mounting pipe set in concrete. Specifically, 3 in. OD high strength galvanized steel tubing with 0.250 in. minimum wall thickness and 7 ft. (84 in.) minimum length, which is available from DX Engineering; part number DXE-VGMT-3CG. A customer supplied 2-1/2 in. Schedule 80 pipe that has an outside diameter of 2.875 in. is also suitable. About 36 in. of the mounting pipe should extend above the concrete. Depth of the mounting hole and amount of concrete is dependent on local soil type, condition and antenna guying. THUNDERBOLT® Vertical Antennas require a good ground radial system. We recommend a minimum of 32 radials, 65 ft. long, but more radials that are all longer will be more efficient for better signals. Note: For additional information, please look at the files under the "Documentation" tab. Do you want a great Top Band signal? If so, then try one of these DX Engineering 160 Meter THUNDERBOLT® Vertical Antennas!

DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array V3 Systems
DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array V3 Systems, DXE-R4S-SYS-V3, dramatically improve reception of weak distant MW and SW signals with excellent rejection of extraneous signals and noise. This is a four-direction switchable phased array that is able to cover multiple HF Amateur bands, such as 160, 80 and 40 meters, by using time delay phasing of four physically short active receive vertical elements. The resulting directional receiving pattern has deep back and side nulls that are superior to Beverage antennas and other receive arrays. The DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array is less susceptible to high angle signals than EWE, Flag, Pennant, K9AY and SAL antennas. Short vertical element receive arrays limit interfering signals and noise for dramatically superior weak signal reception, as compared to full size transmitting antennas and arrays. With the appropriate location and spacing of the four stealthy 8.5 ft. (2.6m) vertical elements, the Receive Four Square Array V3 System is a high performance, directional receive antenna for HF Amateur, SWL or AM DXing. Click or tap the title of a listed item for an overview - a complete description, Specifications, Required and Suggested Parts. Links to instruction manuals and charts appear in Documentation. DX Engineering Receive Four Square Arrays offer directional performance comparable to four long Beverage wire antennas, while using far less land area. In the appropriate clear area, away from metal, structures and other antennas, each of the four Actives simply mount inches above the earth onto a ground rod. Each element is installed on the corners of the array square with sides that are one-eighth to one-quarter wavelength on the lowest band. For example, the optimized Receive Four Square Array for 160, 80 and 40 meters has elements spaced 70 ft. apart. The DXE-R4S-SYS-V3 system includes the DXE-RFS-3 Receive Four Square Array Controller, four Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas, DXE-RSEAV-1, featuring the new DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Units, insulating mounting plates and stainless hardware. These Active Antennas are packed in a 38 x 5 x 5 in. carton for lower shipping cost. Three sections of 3 ft. aluminum tubing, 0.500, 0.375 and 0.250 inch OD, assemble to a height of only 8.5 ft., so each self-supporting element is truly stealthy. This complete array system also includes the DXE-EC-4 Directional Control Console, one 1,000 ft. roll of quality RG6U cable, all cable prep tools, connectors and hardware for construction of the array. Required ground rods and control cable are purchased separately. Build an exceptionally effective, electronically rotatable, stationary receive antenna that lets you hear the DX signals that cannot be heard on a transmit antenna. Dig the weak signals out of the noise with an antenna that can help make your station one of the best. Order and install the DX Engineering Receive Four Square Array V3 System.

DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas
DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas (the RSEAV Antennas) offer excellent low noise radio frequency reception from 40 kHz to 30 MHz. Better receiving performance than full-size transmit antennas and other active makes the DXE-RSEAV-1 the best choice on the market for VLF through HF reception, including long-distance AM broadcast, Medium Wave and Shortwave (SWL), and new low-frequency Amateur bands, DXing, contesting, and everyday HF operations. Click on a listed product title and Scroll Down to see additional important information. A complete product description appears below the Specifications Overview. Instruction manual links appear in the Documentation section. The sleek and stealthy DXE-RSEAV-1 includes a high-quality three-section 8.5 ft. (2.6m) aluminum tubing whip, insulated mounting plate and the completely new DXE-AVA-3 Active Matching Unit. Its state-of-the-art broadband operational amplifier design works as a high-impedance buffer between the short antenna element and RG6U 75-ohm coax. When installed in the appropriate location, RSEAV antennas provide significantly better weak signal reception than other active receive antennas and full-size transmit-capable antennas, with substantially reduced noise and lower spurious signal interference. Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas are intended to be mounted on a ground rod at ground level in a clear area away from all metal, towers and other antennas. They are sold individually (DXE-RSEAV-1), or with a bias tee (DXE-RSEAV-1FVI) and DXE-RSEAV-1 Receive Short Element Active Verticals set a new standard for "Active Receive Vertical Antennas" replacing legacy DXE-ARAV-3, ARAV-2, ARAV-1 and AL-24 versions. Use multiple DXE-RSEAV-1 for all 4 and 8 element DX Engineering Receive Arrays – all 3, 4 and 8 element Hi-Z Antennas Arrays – and 2 element receive arrays with DXE-NCC-2 and NCC-1 Variable Phasing Controllers. The DXE-RSEAV-1 is designed to be a very low-gain, low-noise antenna for greatly improved signal-to-noise performance over a very wide range of frequencies. In a proper single or multi-element array installation, this Receive Vertical antenna will attenuate high-angle skywave signals, which is the goal for a low band DXing receive antenna. Low-angle, long-range DX signals are easier to copy with a good radio and DX Engineering Receive Short Element Active Vertical Antennas. Please Note: To achieve the expected reception pattern, multi-element phased arrays depend upon identical gain and phase response from each element. Every individual element amplifier, its grounding, and even its feedline characteristics and length, must be identical to the others in the array. Therefore, when unrepairable failures occur, it is essential to replace or upgrade all the elements in the array with identical, fully compatible DXE-RSEAV-1 antennas or DXE-AVA-3 units.
