DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules

DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules provide frequency-specific receiving system enhancements, which fit into special DX Engineering devices listed below. These advanced plug-in filter modules are available separately to allow any user to create a specific or customized filter with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass frequency ranges. Filter cut-off and center frequencies correspond to the major Amateur bands, 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, with filter module insertion loss of only about 1dB. By reducing or excluding frequency-specific interfering noise and signals, the noise floor can be lowered for the desired passband for dramatically improved reception DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules may be installed in these devices: DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis accepts one or two filter modules to create a stand-alone passive inline filter unit of any configuration. One high pass and one low pas can be combined to create a multi-band bandpass filter of any HF range. DXE-RPA-2-PM Modular Receive Preamplifier accepts one Receive Filter Plug-In Module to customize the preamplifier passband. DXE-NCC-2 Receive Phasing Controller can accept one or two Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, one into each, Channel A and Channel B. The DX Engineering NCC-2 is highly regarded by many owners and engineers to be the best receive phasing and noise canceling unit available and is used extensively by enthusiasts in Amateur Radio DXing, Contesting, AM DXing, and Short-Wave Listening (SWL), and is also used in commercial AM and HF broadcast applications. DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules add an extra dimension of functionality to the NCC-2, for advanced directional noise and signal nulling performance, enhanced with a specific frequency range operations. By default, NCC-2 internal option slots have bypass boards to pass all signals. Receive Filters placed into these slots dedicate the unit to filtered operation. Typically, one pair of band-pass or high-pass or low-pass filters, depending on desired filtering, is installed in the NCC-2 to suit the specific signal rejection needs of the discerning operator. As an example, an 80 meter DX enthusiast may elect to install two 80 meter band pass Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, part number DXE-R-BP80-PM, into their NCC-2 Channel A and Channel B middle slots. This dedicates their NCC-2 to 80 meter-only operations. This dramatically reduces noise and signals from outside the 80 meter band, very effectively excluding interference from nearby AM Broadcast, 160 and 40 meter stations. A much lower noise floor across 80 meters can help achieve reception of weak 80 meter DX signals. An additional pair of filters can be swapped out for a different band when desired. United Microsystems BT-75/BOG Beverage-On-Ground Antenna Transformers

The United Microsystems BT-75/BOG Beverage-on-Ground (BOG) Antenna Transformers are specifically designed for Beverage-on-Ground receive antennas and is based on the proven BT-75 transformer used with elevated Beverage antennas. Because BOG antennas are installed directly on or just above the ground, they require no supports and can be significantly shorter than traditional Beverage antennas, making them a practical option where space is limited. BOG antennas typically exhibit lower impedance than elevated Beverage antennas. The BT-75/BOG is optimized to provide proper impedance matching between the antenna and 75-ohm RG-6 coaxial cable, improving performance compared to standard Beverage transformers. For correct operation, the far end of the antenna must be terminated with a 250 to 300-ohm resistive load. The United Microsystems RXT-270 termination resistor is recommended. Properly installed Beverage antennas are low-noise, receive-only antennas that provide excellent rejection of signals and noise from the undesired direction. Due to the lower velocity factor of radio waves near the ground, a BOG antenna can often deliver a radiation pattern similar to an elevated Beverage antenna of roughly twice the length, though with reduced signal strength. A BOG antenna as short as 150 to 200 feet can provide effective receive performance, although a preamplifier may be beneficial in some installations. The BT-75/BOG is designed for use with 75-ohm RG-6 coaxial cable. Originally developed for television applications, RG-6 offers low loss at VHF and UHF frequencies, resulting in extremely low loss on the 160, 80, and 40-meter bands. Its availability and low cost make it a popular choice for low-band receive antenna feed lines. The transformer is housed in a NEMA-rated enclosure with stainless steel hardware for long-term outdoor durability. A built-in gas discharge tube across the antenna terminals helps protect the transformer from nearby lightning-induced surges, although it will not provide protection against direct or very close lightning strikes.

ARRL Receiving Antennas for the Radio Amateur

"Transmitting and receiving antennas have different jobs to do." Although the fundamental characteristics of antennas apply to both transmission and reception, the requirements and priorities of receiving antennas can be vastly different from those of transmitting antennas. "Receiving Antennas for the Radio Amateur" focuses entirely on active and passive receiving antennas and their associated circuits. There are relatively few cases where a radio amateur cannot benefit from a separate, well-designed receiving antenna or antenna system. On the low bands, including our new allocations at 630 and 2,200 meters, heavy emphasis on the receiving end of these radio paths is essential for success. The active antenna holds a prominent position in this book, as it offers good receiving performance while taking up minimal space. Recent developments in radio frequency (RF) semiconductors, especially low-noise RF operational amplifiers, have made a number of previously difficult-to-implement active antenna designs a very simple task. Table of Contents: * Receiving Antennas are Different! * Your Friend, the Decibel * The Preamplifier Problem * The Amazing Disappearing Antenna * The Receiving Antenna as a Signal Generator * The Quest for Infinite Power Gain * The Role of the Resistor in the Receiving Antenna * The Small Loop Antenna * Achieving the Perfect Null * You Can Make Accurate Field Strength Measurements * The Aperiodic Loop * The Q Factor * The Beverage: In a Class of Its Own * Dealing with Non-Reciprocal Propagation * The Evolution of the eXOgon Antenna * The Lowdown on LF * The Random Wire * Arrays and Beamforming Networks * Powering Your Active Antenna * Diversity Methods * NVIS Receiving Antennas * Receiving Antenna Projects and Accessories * Materials and Construction Techniques * Our Two New Bands

DX Engineering RF Attenuators

DX Engineering RF Attenuators are used inline with receiving equipment for testing purposes. An inline attenuator will limit the RF input to preamplifier to prevent overload or be used to pad the output of a high gain preamp to an appropriate level. Adding an inline attenuator to a receiver input allows determination of accuracy of s-meter readings on transceivers with a constant RF input signal source. Sometimes, the level of low power RF equipment needs to be reduced for measurement or to obtain the proper input level to an amplification device, such as with QRP equipment. Specifications of impedance, attenuation, power handling and connectors appear on the part number description. Order inline RF Attenuators for your test bench or shack from DX Engineering.

DX Engineering MBS-4 Multi-Band Splitters

As opposed to standard four-port splitters, DX Engineering MBS-4 Multi-Band Splitters have been specially designed to pass signals from the bottom of the AM broadcast band (500 kHz) to beyond the top of the satellite radio band (2.4 GHz) and do it with low-loss. With such a wide pass-band they are very useful for implementing whole-house and commercial RF distribution networks supplying signals that are used in all types of entertainment systems. These signals could include AM/FM HD radio, VHF/UHF digital television, satellite radio and Wi-Fi. ANY signal frequency within the pass-band may be split to multiple locations! DXE-MBS-4 splitters are also designed to pass DC between their input and one of the output ports via protection diodes that prevent DC feedback. This allows powered amplifiers and antennas to receive power-feed through the splitters. RF insertion loss for these splitters is up to 12-dB. However, they may be used in tandem with wideband preamps to implement a lossless system! These splitters are not recommended for use in stand-alone satellite radio splitter configurations without additional external amplification and DC impedance terminations of unused ports. Whether you are wiring a living room, den, bedroom and sunroom, or a building with multiple offices, these DX Engineering MBS-4 Multi-Band Splitters are at the core of your signal-distribution network!
