DX Engineering Ferrite

DX Engineering Ferrites are partially magnetic metal and ceramic mixes available in a variety of forms, including toroid core, bead type and plastic-covered split-bead ferrite called snap-beads. They are used in a myriad of RF suppression applications to mitigate RFI (radio frequency interference) as well as to reduce pulse and other types of RF noise interference. Special ferrites are used for experimentation and electronic circuit building and for making transformers, RF chokes and antenna baluns. The variations of magnetic and non-magnetic metals and non-metal ceramics used to make ferrites are called "Mixes" and each has different radio frequency properties or ranges. Therefore, different mix number ferrites are typically used for different applications within those ranges, determined by decades of experiments by engineers and applications by hams. Each Mix has been assigned a color code to help identify the ferrite, so numerical labeling is not used on the metal. Color coded ferrite can be identified long after the numbered package is discarded or has disintegrated with time. How do they work? Simply use snap-on beads on a cable or wire. An even more effective choke takes a few to several turns of a wire or cable through and around a ferrite snap-on bead or toroid core. This mitigates RFI to, or from, the connected RF noise producing or noise affected electronic device. The results can be very surprising. Solving noise and RFI can be frustrating. Due to the nature of RF and noise interference suppression; the techniques of appropriate use of ferrites can take a bit of trial and error, but are often the best solution for a difficult problem. Use DX Engineering Ferrite for an incredible range of electronic circuits, noise abatement and RF suppression projects. The details of DX Engineering Ferrite mixes and types appear in each product description. Sizes and applications are discussed in "More Details" and in the literature available at the "Documentation" tab of each of these products.

DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors

The DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors shown here include two-part, silver-plated PL-259 and Type-N connectors designed to be crimped or soldered to the shield and soldered to the center conductor. These connectors deliver excellent performance for HF, VHF, and UHF applications. DX Engineering's PL-259 and Type-N connectors feature silver-plated brass throughout the outer and inner conductors and use PTFE dielectric—the best RF insulator—for very low loss and high electrical breakdown strength. Also available are DX Engineering Silver-Plated Reducers, which adapt standard solder-type PL-259 and Type-N connectors for use with single-shield RG-8X and RG-58U coaxial cables. While many types and grades of coaxial RF connectors are offered on the market, DX Engineering provides only top-quality connectors with silver-plated brass bodies and PTFE dielectric. These two-part solder-style connectors fit RG-213, RG-8U, RG-8X/LMR240 and other standard 0.405 in. single-braid shield coaxial cables intended for soldering*—but not 400MAX or LMR-400 double-shield cables. These solder-shield and solder-center connectors are the preferred choice for many Amateur Radio operators installing single-braid shield coaxial cables. Order your DX Engineering Coaxial Connectors and Reducers today! *NOTE: To prevent noise issues, modern engineering practice has determined that double shield cables that have one foil and one braid should not be soldered to the braid, including DXE-400MAX and LMR-400 style cables. United Microsystems BT-75/BOG Beverage-On-Ground Antenna Transformers

The United Microsystems BT-75/BOG Beverage-on-Ground (BOG) Antenna Transformers are specifically designed for Beverage-on-Ground receive antennas and is based on the proven BT-75 transformer used with elevated Beverage antennas. Because BOG antennas are installed directly on or just above the ground, they require no supports and can be significantly shorter than traditional Beverage antennas, making them a practical option where space is limited. BOG antennas typically exhibit lower impedance than elevated Beverage antennas. The BT-75/BOG is optimized to provide proper impedance matching between the antenna and 75-ohm RG-6 coaxial cable, improving performance compared to standard Beverage transformers. For correct operation, the far end of the antenna must be terminated with a 250 to 300-ohm resistive load. The United Microsystems RXT-270 termination resistor is recommended. Properly installed Beverage antennas are low-noise, receive-only antennas that provide excellent rejection of signals and noise from the undesired direction. Due to the lower velocity factor of radio waves near the ground, a BOG antenna can often deliver a radiation pattern similar to an elevated Beverage antenna of roughly twice the length, though with reduced signal strength. A BOG antenna as short as 150 to 200 feet can provide effective receive performance, although a preamplifier may be beneficial in some installations. The BT-75/BOG is designed for use with 75-ohm RG-6 coaxial cable. Originally developed for television applications, RG-6 offers low loss at VHF and UHF frequencies, resulting in extremely low loss on the 160, 80, and 40-meter bands. Its availability and low cost make it a popular choice for low-band receive antenna feed lines. The transformer is housed in a NEMA-rated enclosure with stainless steel hardware for long-term outdoor durability. A built-in gas discharge tube across the antenna terminals helps protect the transformer from nearby lightning-induced surges, although it will not provide protection against direct or very close lightning strikes.

DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules

DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules provide frequency-specific receiving system enhancements, which fit into special DX Engineering devices listed below. These advanced plug-in filter modules are available separately to allow any user to create a specific or customized filter with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass frequency ranges. Filter cut-off and center frequencies correspond to the major Amateur bands, 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meters, with filter module insertion loss of only about 1dB. By reducing or excluding frequency-specific interfering noise and signals, the noise floor can be lowered for the desired passband for dramatically improved reception DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules may be installed in these devices: DXE-DMC-2 Dual Module Chassis accepts one or two filter modules to create a stand-alone passive inline filter unit of any configuration. One high pass and one low pas can be combined to create a multi-band bandpass filter of any HF range. DXE-RPA-2-PM Modular Receive Preamplifier accepts one Receive Filter Plug-In Module to customize the preamplifier passband. DXE-NCC-2 Receive Phasing Controller can accept one or two Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, one into each, Channel A and Channel B. The DX Engineering NCC-2 is highly regarded by many owners and engineers to be the best receive phasing and noise canceling unit available and is used extensively by enthusiasts in Amateur Radio DXing, Contesting, AM DXing, and Short-Wave Listening (SWL), and is also used in commercial AM and HF broadcast applications. DX Engineering Receive Filter Plug-In Modules add an extra dimension of functionality to the NCC-2, for advanced directional noise and signal nulling performance, enhanced with a specific frequency range operations. By default, NCC-2 internal option slots have bypass boards to pass all signals. Receive Filters placed into these slots dedicate the unit to filtered operation. Typically, one pair of band-pass or high-pass or low-pass filters, depending on desired filtering, is installed in the NCC-2 to suit the specific signal rejection needs of the discerning operator. As an example, an 80 meter DX enthusiast may elect to install two 80 meter band pass Receive Filter Plug-In Modules, part number DXE-R-BP80-PM, into their NCC-2 Channel A and Channel B middle slots. This dedicates their NCC-2 to 80 meter-only operations. This dramatically reduces noise and signals from outside the 80 meter band, very effectively excluding interference from nearby AM Broadcast, 160 and 40 meter stations. A much lower noise floor across 80 meters can help achieve reception of weak 80 meter DX signals. An additional pair of filters can be swapped out for a different band when desired. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. All Receive Filter Plug-In Modules displayed here are also conveniently listed on a single page linked in Documentation.

YCCC Receive Feedline Choke Kits

Closeout- Other YCCC array components are no longer available YCCC Receive Feedline Choke Kits prevent common-mode noise or unwanted signal intrusion on the feed lines of YCCC Receive Vertical Array Kits. These choke kits are the same as provided in the array kit packages and may be used as replacements or in other applications. Component-level assembly of these kits is required. A choke enclosure is user supplied. Their function is to provide isolation between the input and output coaxial shield connections, while passing desired receive or control signals. Their isolation impedance blocks common-mode noise or unwanted signals. YCCC Receive Feedline Choke Kits are supplied with standard "F" female connectors to prevent connection to transmitting equipment. All inquiries and technical support for the discontinued YCCC kits and kit packages is handled by e-mail only, typically within two to three business days: yccctechsupport@verizon.net

Hi-Z® Antennas DL-4 V2 Long and Short Delay Cables

Hi-Z® Antennas DL-4 V2 Long and Short Delay Cables are essential components for the Hi-Z 4 Element V2 4 Square and Hi-Z 8 Element V2 Multi-Band 8 Circle Receive Array Systems. These are the high quality RG-6U coaxial cables that are precision tuned by DX Engineering and terminated with compression-style weather resistant male F connectors. These Hi-Z DL4 V2 Delay Cables must be selected and purchased separately, depending upon the desired array band coverage and corresponding size of the array, detailed below. Each are permanently connected to the 4 Square or 8 Circle Phase Controller "Long Delay" and "Short Delay" female F connectors upon array installation. SMALL ARRAY dimensions for maximized multi-band reception require the selection of one HIZ-DL-4-60-85L (Long) and one HIZ-DL-4-60-85S (Short), as recommended by Hi-Z for: * 4 Square Array with element side spacing of 60 ft. * 8 Circle Array with a diameter of 85 ft. Overall excellent cardioid patterns are achieved for enhanced, low noise reception on all three low band bands--160, 80, and 40 meters with very good receiving results on 30 meters as well. LARGE ARRAYS that are dedicated for ONLY 160 and 80 meters, one HIZ-DL-4-80-113L and one HIZ-DL-4-80-113S are for: * 4 Square Array with element side spacing of 80 ft. * 8 Circle Array with a diameter of 113 ft. Large array spacing and longer delay cable allows the user to manipulate the achieved patterns and the resulting Receive Directivity Factor (RDF) for their desired band coverage optimization. This also requires the change of four jumpers inside the respective phase controller. See the array phase controller instructions for details on jumper settings for alternative delay lines, patterns and performance.
