DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 3 kW of RF power, DXE-LL450 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF. It is ideal for exceptionally long feedline runs and for low band wire antennas operated on multiple bands on which the feedpoint impedance can vary significantly, causing mismatch and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL450 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where antenna feedpoint impedance mismatches cause high SWR. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable when feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL450 450 Ohm Ladder Line is a high-quality flat RF feedline, about 0.938 in. wide (15/16") with two 16-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors (29 AWG x 19 strands) that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of around 400 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 91 percent. For proper performance, LL450 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL450 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, DXE-LL450 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-C4-1 4:1 Balun or a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax, not foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. DXE-213U or DXE-214 Coaxial Cable Assemblies 12 or 18 ft. with PL-259s are perfect for this method, which eliminates the need for a special balanced tuner, and avoids the losses and detuning effects caused by unbalancing when ladder line is routed indoors near wires and ducts. DXE-LL450 is sold by the foot, previously sold as DXE-LL450-CTL, this is the same ladder line with a new part number. It is also available in spools of 500 ft. DXE-LL450-5C and 1,000 ft. DXE-LL450-1K, which are specified for DX Engineering Reversible Beverage System Antennas. NOTE: This type of feedline is intended for MF and HF use and is not suitable for use above 54 MHz. Also consider DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line, DXE-LL300, an excellent alternative low-loss HF feed line that reduces impedance extremes on non-resonant HF multiband antenna systems.

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line

DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is a transmitting grade low-loss parallel-wire RF feedline featuring a strong, waterproof, UV black polyethylene insulation. To maintain the wire spacing between the conductors while reducing losses, the integral flat plastic material alternates with rectangular openings, which explains the "Window Line" nickname. Capable of handling over 2.5 kW of RF power, DXE-LL300 is a very low-loss transmission line across HF that is ideal for long feedline runs. It is an excellent feedline choice for a low band non-resonant wire antenna operated on multiple bands on which the impedance varies significantly, causing mismatches and elevated SWR. Unlike coaxial cables, DX Engineering DXE-LL300 Ladder Line maintains low RF losses at frequencies where impedance mismatches cause high SWR. The lower impedance of DX Engineering 300 Ohm Ladder Line is actually better suited than 450 ohm ladder line for limiting the impedance extremes of non-resonant multiband antennas. It can provide significantly higher efficiency than coaxial cable for feeding non-resonant antenna systems that are matched with a wide impedance range antenna tuner. DXE-LL300 Ladder Line is a flat, high-quality RF feedline, about 0.438 in. wide with two 18-gauge copper-clad steel wire conductors that provide the strength to hold up for long spans between supports without twisting. It exhibits a nominal impedance of 275 Ohms and a nominal Velocity Factor of 88 percent. For proper performance, LL300 Ladder Line must be installed suspended through the air supported by insulators every 25 ft. or less, kept at right angles and several inches away from other wires, and at least one foot away when run parallel to the earth or large metal surfaces. Installing with an axial twist of one turn per 10 ft. can reduce wind, rain and ice loading, RF coupling and RF noise. DXE-LL300 can be mounted with insulators and suspended on metal or wood posts or run along a wood fence line, only if the fence has no wires or metal mesh that couples RF noise or unbalances the feedline. Most often used for non-resonant wire doublet antennas, dipoles, and inverted-vees, DXE-LL300 can be more easily terminated outdoors to a DXE-MC20-1-1T 1:1 Balun. Then, with no inline switches or relays, directly connect the antenna system to a typical indoor wide range antenna tuner using a solid dielectric coax instead of foam dielectric, to handle high voltage at high SWR. Mastrant Antenna Support and Guy Line Ropes

Mastrant Antenna Support and Guy Line Ropes are available in several sizes and strength ratings, perfect for support of wire antennas, vertical antennas and antenna masts, as well as support of Yagi booms and elements. Mastrant ropes are of the highest quality for strength and are UV-protected for extended longevity. MASTRANT-O is a highly reflective rope (bright orange plus braided reflective tape) based on long-term proven Polyester (Dacron) product line. It is designed for maximum visibility in public places such as Field Day and POTA activities. Like all Mastrant ropes, it is UV stable and resistant to all weather conditions. It has low weight, great abrasion resistance, great durability and is nonconductive (no effect whatsoever on your antenna). Moreover, in contrast to ropes made from aramid fibers (Kevlar, Vectran, Technora, Twaron), it has knot strength about 60 %. Mastrant-P and Mastrant-R Ropes are stronger than other synthetic ropes of the same size, made from proven modern polyester. Mastrant-Q is a new rope made from a blend of polyester and polypropylene, designed specifically for guying applications. It offers an excellent performance-to-price ratio and has a knot strength of approximately 60%. It replaces Mastrant-P in diameters of 6 mm (1/4 in.) and larger. Mastrant-S is a similar polyester/polypropylene rope, distinguished by its highly reflective strands for increased visibility. Mastrant-M is their highest strength rope with the Dyneema® DM20 core, a superior synthetic rope offering high performance at an affordable price. Very high strength, negligible elongation, very low weight, and great abrasion resistance are all attributes that make Mastrant-M the best rope for guying. Larger, stronger sizes of Mastrant-M are used in Europe and other parts of the world for tower guying. Durability and safety are of prime concern to ensure that an antenna installation remains fully operational for a long time. Antennas and guy lines are exposed to changing weather conditions, mechanical strain, UV radiation, humidity, and more. These non-conductive synthetic fibers have all the necessary qualities: high strength, negligible stretch but good flexibility, long life, low moisture collection, fast drying, a minimum bending radius adding the ability to tie knots, good UV radiation resistance, weather durability and resistance to acids and alkali. Conversely, steel guying wires are heavy, difficult to work with, and their strength deteriorates with time due to corrosion and general aging. Electrical conductivity of steel guys is an undesirable feature, as they interact with the antennas and adversely modify radiation patterns. Thanks to recent developments in synthetic materials, both amateur and professional users are changing over to non-conductive guys and ropes. Mastrant offers these products for a variety of applications, from thin support lines used for wire antennas and beams, to rope guys for supporting small and portable masts and vertical antennas. When you need quality rope to install, replace, or modify your antenna systems, consider Mastrant Antenna Support and Guy Line Ropes, now available from DX Engineering.

WiMo X-Quad Antennas

WiMo X-Quad Antennas, with separate monoband models for 144-146 MHz or 430-440 MHz, represent a refinement of VHF and UHF cross-polarized Yagis. They are well-known in Europe as "multi-element quads"—an antenna with aluminum elements, not a wire and fiberglass antenna—which offer excellent gain with a relatively short boom length. X-Quads are a great solution due to their short length and lightweight construction, especially for VHF/UHF satellite systems which require rotation in all compass directions and elevations. Two X-Quad Antennas, one for 144-146 MHz and one for 430-440 MHz, may be mounted at opposite ends of an azimuth-elevation rotator cross-boom for high-performance full duplex Satellite operations. For either or both bands, X-Quad Antennas may instead be used in a stationary mount, as pictured, for all-mode terrestrial operations. In either application, multiple X-Quad Antennas may be stacked vertically and horizontally for additional gain and tighter patterns. The WiMo X-Quad special features, developed specifically for Satellite Amateur Radio include: * Switchable Polarization Plane; horizontal/vertical/right hand circular/left hand circular (remote switching requires optional equipment) * High gain compared to other antenna forms due to the "stacking effect" * Short boom length and compact design * Back-end boom or mid-boom centered mounting to the mast is possible The radiator element is a "stacked quad" multi-element beam, for which linear polarization can be compared to a crossed slotted radiator. However, the advantage of the X-Quad is that it can be optimally used for the desired polarization by simply changing the feed. Compared to a typical cross-polarized Yagi, all directors and reflectors are active in the X-Quad, which enables the compact design. As with cross-polarized Yagis, switching is accomplished on the mono-band X-Quad either by a coaxial relay or with a band specific WiMo Remote Polarization Switch (sold separately). If the remote switch is mounted at the antenna, then only one coax cable and a 4-conductor control cable are required, sold separately. If the Switch is used at the station, then two coaxial cables from the antenna to the station are needed. The WiMo X-Quad Antenna can also be permanently set for circular operation by using an optional, band-specific Phase Line. The secondary elements are arranged diagonally in relation to the square-shaped driven element, which corresponds to the voltage distribution on the radiating element, for the most favorable results. In comparison to Yagi antennas, the X-Quad pattern and tuning are affected less by the influence of external fields, making them ideal for installation under a roof, in an attic space. All elements are electrically conductively connected with boom and cable outer sheath, thus eliminating interference from atmospheric noise. Two Type-N female coaxial connectors, one for each polarization, are mounted in a housing that is waterproof. Boom and elements are made of aluminum, all hardware is stainless steel. Construction and design of the antennas are protected by law (DBGM). The antennas are designed for boom-end mounting; however, alternatively the mast clamp can be mounted in the middle of a non-metallic boom. These antennas have a split boom, so their transport length is only 29.53 in. (75cm) for the 2m antenna and 25.59 in. (65cm) for the 70cm X-Quad. For portable operations they can be stowed away comfortably in the trunk of car and their shipping costs are comparatively low.

DX Engineering CC-8A Deluxe Control Consoles are flexible, 8-position controllers used to control the DX Engineering RR8 series Antenna Switches, 8 Circle Arrays, or any product that uses a 13.8V DC, 1-of-8 or BCD control format. They feature an attractive metal housing that is powder-coated and features an ON/OFF switch, ergonomic selector knob, and eight front-panel LEDs, with adjustable brightness, to indicate the switch position. Their rear-panel external plug allows the control cable to be easily unplugged during weather events or if the shack needs to be rearranged. We also suggest unplugging the control console leads when severe weather is expected. The use of a lightning protector on the control lines (DXE-IS-RCT) is prudent as well. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. DX Engineering CC-8A Deluxe Control Consoles are RoHS-compliant and the components, including the solder used, are all lead-free. Only use lead-free solder and lead-free soldering tools if internal servicing is required.

RigExpert Antenna Analyzers

RigExpert Antenna Analyzers are powerful antenna analyzers designed for testing, checking, tuning, or repairing antennas and antenna feed-lines. Mainly, these are SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) and impedance measurement instruments (vector impedance analyzers). Their large, bright LCD screens provide graphic illustration of SWR, impedance; return loss, and much more. Easy to use measurement modes, as well as additional features such as connection to a personal computer (to plot SWR, R, X and Smith charts, etc.); make RigExpert Analyzers attractive for professionals and hobbyists alike. They are compatible with several operating systems, including Windows© 10, 11 and Mac, with software download*. The graphic display of various parameters over a wide frequency range is a key feature of these analyzers. This significantly reduces the time required to adjust an antenna. ZOOM models allow you to zoom-in on graph points for clearer analysis. USB connection allows export of sweep files with Antscope for Android or Antscope2 software to PC or MAC. *(download from the manufacturer https://rigexpert.com/products/software/). Many models have Bluetooth for direct file transfer for galvanic isolation without a USB cable, which provides the most accurate measurements. RigExpert Antenna Analyzers are available in several models with greater frequency range of operational features. Some have SO-239 UHF female connector, except for most models that operate at 230 MHz and above that have a Type N female connector. An array of options are available to cover almost any need for the professional and the Amateur. The following tasks are easily accomplished by using RigExpert Antenna Analyzers: * Rapid check-out of an antenna * Tuning an antenna to resonance * Antenna SWR and impedance measurement and comparison before and after a specific event (rain, hurricane, winter, etc.) * Making coaxial lines or measuring their parameters * Cable testing and fault location * Measuring capacitance or inductance of reactive loads *Send data to laptop for larger graphical display and further analysis. Note: For additional product information, please look at the files under the "Documentation" tab. When you need a versatile antenna analyzer for Amateur Radio or professional use, you'll find that one of these RigExpert Antenna Analyzers, from DX Engineering, will be well suited to the task!
