DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas
DX Engineering Multi-Band Dipole Antennas are designs that are rugged, yet lightweight. Using a tuner, they are usable to 30 MHz and come complete with the wire elements, ladder feedline, center T support, and end mount brackets. These antennas are built using the highest quality components. They use 14 AWG stranded-copper, PVC jacketed elements for flexibility and strength and 100 ft. of 18 AWG 300-ohm 0.88 Velocity Factor ladder lines that are UV-resistant. Stainless steel hardware is included. Often, a 4:1 balun is suggested for multi-band dipoles; however, the best balun to use for this application is a 1:1 ratio. The 1:1 baluns provide better balance, have lower loss, and are more tolerant to load impedance and balance variations than other baluns. A tuner balun is not included in the dipole antenna kits and is available separately. The dipole center T support has pre-drilled holes for the attachment of the wire elements, feedline, and support or messenger lines. The center support top hole is used for the attachment of a "messenger line" that can be strung above the antenna wire and is used to provide support for the antenna wire and feedline. The use of the messenger line, which is strongly recommended but not included, will reduce the stress on the element wires and keep the antenna from stretching over time, which will change its resonant frequency. This line can be thin Synthetic Textile rope available from DX Engineering, which has a high breaking strength. Ideally, it should attach to the same structure used for the dipole, only above it, forming at least a 30 degree angle between the dipole and the messenger line. For further information and to decide the amount of rope you will need, please read the included instructions and check your wire antenna area of construction. Georgia Copper Flexible Ground Strap Jumpers are excellent for low impedance outdoor grounding and HF antenna feedpoint and radial system connections. Even weathered to a dull patina, copper strap does not lose its low impedance advantages over wire or cables, for DC and AC through HF and VHF. Plus, flexible copper strap is far superior to tinned copper braid, which holds moisture and disintegrates which causes a undesirable increase in connection impedance over a relatively short time. DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits
DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits bring a practical solution to a serious problem when ferrite chokes are placed directly onto the metal boom at the feedpoint of beam antennas. A number of Amateur Radio operators and antenna engineers have known for years about the superior choking function of many ferrite toroids beads placed directly on the coaxial cable, as compared to standard feedpoint baluns. A more recent revelation is that the proximity of ferrite beads on coax taped to the aluminum boom of the antenna drastically reduces their effectiveness. DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits are mounting systems, made of fiberglass or acetyl standoff rods (color varies), PVC carriers and stainless steel hardware, available in four versions. Two sizes of PVC cradle tubes handle two different types of RF bead chokes; 3/4 inch outside diameter (OD) ferrite beads on RG-400 size cable, and 1 inch OD ferrite beads on RG-213 size 0.405 in. coax cable. Each are offered with two different boom size clamps, 2 inch OD and 3 inch OD. Bead Choke Standoff Kits simply hold an RF bead choke and feedline 4 inches away from the metal beam antenna boom (or 4 inches away from the metal mast for a dipole). They maintain the optimal choking performance of ferrite beads on coax. Using DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits, ferrite bead chokes function at peak performance for these key results: • Prevent feedline radiation of RF • Preserve current balance for proper beam antenna pattern • Prevent feedline shield exterior collected noise and signals from entering the antenna and interior of the feedline, resulting in lower noise floor and enhanced reception The absolute superiority of RF chokes made of many beads on the feedline, over the traditional enclosure balun, is becoming better understood in Amateur Radio. They achieve the best possible RF isolation of the feedline from the antenna and provide completely balanced currents at the feedpoint. Plus, they provide quieter reception with reduction of common-mode noise. Keeping Bead RF Chokes away from metal preserves the optimal function of this method of antenna feedpoint current balance and isolation. This mechanical requirement is simple and practical with DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits.

Par EndFedz® Antennas
Par EndFedz® Antennas are End Fed Half Wave (EFHW) antennas with the match box coax connection at the end of the wire, for convenient and quick stealth portable operations. These single-band and multi-band antennas can be mounted horizontally, vertically, or as a sloper. No ground plane or counterpoise is needed so portable operation could not be easier. Simply hang the far end from a tree limb or send the wire out a hotel room window or balcony. You can use a telescoping fiberglass mast to get the antenna really high in the air and the supplied end insulators the installation easy. Stealth operation in CC&R and HOA antenna restricted locations is simplified. Their all-black construction makes them difficult to see. Each Par EndFedz® features a UV-resistant black ABS plastic housing with a support rope attachment hole that encloses a matching network to allow the antenna to be fed with standard 50 ohm coaxial cable with a PL-259 (UHF male). All hardware is stainless steel and the SO-239 (UHF female) connector is silver plated and has a PTFE dielectric. The antenna wires are either 18 or 26 AWG stranded Copperweld® with 200 pound breaking strength and a tough, 100% UV stable black polyethylene jacket. One end of the antenna wire has a #10 solder lug making attachment to the matching network feedpoint simple and easily replaceable, if necessary. Standard single and multi-band versions handle 100 or 200 watts and higher power versions handle 300 watts. Lightweight QRP PolyStealth models handle 25 watts and are ideal for portable operation because they are lightweight; the MKII model weighs only 8 ounces and the Trail Friendly model weighs only 3.5 oz. Par EndFedz® Antennas require no counterpoise or extra conductors. The EF-ALLBAND-KW model, about 133 ft. in length, covers eight bands, 80 through 10 meters. The ALLBANDKWJR is 74 ft. in length and operates on five bands, 80-10 meters. The 64 ft. EF-40-10-KW operates on four bands. All three models handle up to 1000 watts SSB/CW and 250 watts AM/Digital Modes. The need for an external tuner may vary based on the antenna model selected and the desired operating band. The manufacturer refers to these antennas as "End-Fed Dipoles" based upon the assertion that a "half-wave radiator is a dipole." This is a variant of the classic definition of a dipole which is a center-fed antenna with two radiating legs running in opposite directions from the feed point. Additional claims about the EFHW state that end feeding a half-wave "can energize the radiator 'nearly' as well as a center-fed."
