DX Engineering Tilt Base Antenna Mounting Systems

The patented* DX Engineering Tilt Base Antenna Mounting Systems enable an operator to raise or lower an antenna in seconds, while leaving the base of the antenna securely attached to the mounting plate and post. DX Engineering Tilt Bases make it easy to tune your vertical, repair, or simply lower your antenna to a safe horizontal position long before bad weather hits. One person can install, raise and lower, and service their vertical antenna with our stainless steel Tilt Base; just walk it up or down. The Tilt Base prevents potential accidents when climbing a step ladder to tune the antenna, especially on soft ground. This is an essential tool that has helped countless hams eliminate the possibility of personal injury and damage to their ground-mounted vertical antenna. There is no need to remove brackets from the support posts and you will never again have to lift the entire weight of the antenna in order to tilt it down or tilt it up. Nearly two decades of customer comments about DX Engineering Tilt Bases (and the Radial Plate) have included "it's a work of mechanical art" and another exclaimed "...it's so gorgeous I don't want to mount it outside, I want to hang it on the wall!" Year after year, users are thankful for the amazing ease of the Lift, Slide and Tilt action of this antenna mount for making antenna adjustments simple. Recently, DX Engineering customer Michael, KO4VVH, said "I wondered why this bracket had a cost over $60, but when it arrived today I was blown away. Heavy duty doesn't do this beast justice. Heavy plate stainless steel and it is one of the best mounts I've ever owned. It's big and heavy... Ultra heavy duty. I will mount it up to my Hustler 5BTV HF antenna so I can drop it to ground level for maintenance, adjustments and SWR tweaks. Thank you!" Precision-cut from 3/16 in. 304 stainless steel, these Tilt Base Antenna Mounts are virtually indestructible. They conveniently mount to the same ground pipe or tubing that you use for the antenna and Radial Plate. You could use lag screws or carriage bolts to mount the Tilt Base and the Radial Plate to a wood post, but typically they are securely mounted to a 2 in. max. OD pipe using optional SSVC-2P saddle clamps, displayed in "Required Parts". There are five versions of the DX Engineering Tilt Base Antenna Mounting Systems kit designed for a variety of HF antenna types: DXE-TB-3P: Specifically designed with included stainless steel hardware to mate with the antenna mounting bracket of the Hustler 4, 5 or 6 BTV vertical antennas. DXE-TB-4P: This Tilt Base model provides a mounting plate and clamps for tilting a customer supplied antenna support mast up to 1.75 in. OD and 10 ft. tall, for mounting elevated no-radial vertical antennas that weigh less than or equal to 20 pounds, and have a height of no more than 28 ft. The Vertical antennas and mast assemblies must be adequately guyed. Precautions must be taken when raising or lowering to avoid undue lateral stress on the tilt mechanism. The TB-4P is the tilt option for legacy DX Engineering vertical antenna models DXE-30VE-1, DXE-40-VE-1 and DXE-40VA-1. See the DXE-TB-7P below for the replacement COM-30VA and COM-40VA Monoband Vertical Antennas. DXE-TB-6P: Is specifically designed to mate to the antenna mounting bracket of the Hy-Gain AV-14AVQ (HGN-AV-14AVQ). This special tilt base mounting system includes stainless steel hardware that allows the AV-14AVQ to be closer to ground level for maximum performance. DXE-TB-7P: Is specifically designed to mate to the COMTEK 30 Meter (COM-30VA) and 40 Meter (COM-40VA) Vertical Antennas. DXE-TB-8P: Is specifically designed to mate to the COMTEK 20 Meter Vertical Antennas (COM-20VA) which may be tuned to resonate on one band, 20, 17, 15, 12, or 10 meters. DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector

Built by popular demand, the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector is ready to be placed in line with your balanced feedline antenna system! For many years, hams have asked us for a surge protector for use with their 300 ohm and 450 ohm ladder line fed antennas. Decades ago automotive spark plugs or arc gaps were used for shunting lightning pulses from balanced feeders to ground. But, you never really knew if they were going to work, if they really were continuing to work or if they were affecting the tuning. Here is the modern approach to providing surge protection for ladder line fed antennas. Made with components similar to those used in coaxial protectors, the DXE-LLSP uses much larger capacitors, resistors and gas discharge tubes on each leg of the ladder line to offer excellent surge protection capabilities at high SWR. These components are rated to handle 5 kW, so this protector will easily handle well over legal limit RF power at the high standing wave ratios expected on balanced line. Plus, the Ladder Line Surge Protector bleeds off the static charge that is collected on your antenna from wind driven sand, rain and snow! The DXE-LLSP Ladder Line Surge Protector is built to sustain multiple minor surges. As with any surge protector, there is no guarantee that a direct hit from lightning will be stopped. A replacement parts kit is also available to refurbish your pulse damaged protector: DXE-LLSP-RP Features of the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector: • Standard size NEMA enclosure; 4 x 4 x 2 in. nominal box dimensions; mounting tab holes on centers: 4.625 x 2.125 in. • Works with 450 ohm or 300 ohm Ladder Line and 600 ohm open-wire feeder • Internal Gas Discharge Tubes, Capacitors and Resistors • Can withstand multiple minor surges and shunts them to ground • Bleeds off static charge collected from wind driven snow, rain and sand • Weep holes allow any buildup of internal moisture to drain out • Handles well over legal limit at high SWR as expected on balanced line NOTE: The DXE-LLSP is an RF only device that does not carry DC voltage. Therefore it cannot be tested with a multimeter. It must be tested with an analyzer and a 300 ohm resistor, or by connecting an antenna feedline. If there is infinite SWR or no receive, the components have been damaged by lightning pulse energy and need to be replaced with the DXE-LLSP-RP Ladder Line Surge Protector Replacement Parts Kit. Order the DX Engineering Ladder Line Surge Protector for your balanced feedline antenna system today!

DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits

Some vertical antenna manufacturers indicate that their antennas do not need guying. During times of high winds or ice loading, however, some of these vertical antennas may sustain damage or fail altogether. With the small amount of effort needed to install one of these DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits, the risk hardly seems worth taking. They feature a 4-point guying scheme that provides the best mechanical advantage to prevent wind stress, regardless of direction. The guying is intended for stability only and should never be depended on for primary support. DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits are especially recommended for use with DX Engineering tilt bases, because just one of the guy ropes has to be loosened when you tilt the vertical down. The remaining guys help to stabilize the vertical in three directions when being raised. These kits have been designed to be used with ground-mounted quarter-wavelength vertical antennas, such as DX Engineering monoband and multiband verticals and the Hustler 4, 5, and 6-BTV models. Using the DX Engineering vertical antenna guying kits, you can install four guy ropes approximately halfway up the vertical antenna system to ground level and angled at approximately 45 degrees. Guying should be tightened just enough to permit the antenna to swing a few inches. The ends of the ropes are tied to the earth anchors that are screwed into the ground at about the same angle as the ropes. Tie the other ends of the ropes to the vertical antenna just above one of the antenna element clamps or traps (a guying ring is not required). Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. The DX Engineering Vertical Antenna Guying Kits are available in different lengths to fit your varying vertical antenna needs.

DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits

DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits provide the appropriate transition from non-metallic to metallic guying cable at the ground end of tower guying systems. Steel Tail Kits are available for Phillystran HPTG-4000I, -6700I and 11200I Guy Lines. What is the function of the steel tail? Here is the recommendation by Phillystran, the manufacturer of HPTG-I High Performance Tower Guy non-metallic guy lines: A steel tail is a length of EHS (Extra High Strength) steel guy line connecting the HPTG-I assemblies to the turnbuckle or guy anchor. The steel tail protects the HPTG-I assemblies from damage due to brush fires, lawn maintenance equipment or vandals. The steel tail length should be sufficient to get the bottom end of the HPTG-I assembly above arm's reach, or above brush tops (if located in a marsh or tall brush area). The HPTG-I should never pass through tree limbs or be allowed to rub against poles or trees. The steel tail allows for easier guy length calculations and serves as a guy tension monitoring point, as well as a safer area to attach guy grips during guy line installation and tensioning. Eliminating the hassle of buying a length of steel cable and obtaining a special tool to cut it, DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits provide everything needed to isolate your tower's non-metallic guy cable from harm. Three different size kits are available for different tower guying requirements provided by Phillystran guy cables 4000I, 6700I and 11200I. Here are the items included in these innovative Steel Tail kits: - 12 ft. EHS steel guy line, Galvanized, in three kit sizes, 3/16 in., 1/4 in. or 5/16 in. - Porcelain Guy Line Strain Insulator, 502 or 504 depending upon kit size - Galvanized Steel Preform Dead End Big-Grips for EHS steel guy line, two per line - Heavy Duty Thimble, galvanized steel, appropriately sized for each kit - Cable Ties, UV protected Black, four, to secure installed Big-Grip ends Note: Phillystran guy line and Preform Dead End Big-Grips for Phillystran are not provided in this kit and must be ordered separately. DX Engineering Phillystran Steel Tail Kits provide Porcelain Guy Line Strain Insulators for the top end of the Steel Tail so that the galvanized steel Big-Grips for the Phillystran and for the EHS Steel Guy Lines do not touching and make RF noise. For three different size Phillystran guy line, HPTG-4000I, -6700I and -11200I, these kits are available exclusively from DX Engineering in 3-packs for each level of tower guying.
