DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10000 Buffer Amplifiers

DX Engineering Clifton Laboratories Z10000 Buffer Amplifiers may be the products most often requested by radio experimenters and electronics enthusiasts. These are the very popular circuits, designed by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), that are crucial for adding a SDR receiver and panadapter display capabilities to a receiver or transceiver which lacks that feature. The Z10000 Buffer Amplifier's high-input impedance can safely tap the early-stage broadband Intermediate Frequency (IF) signal from inside your radio and feed the buffered and amplified low impedance IF signal to your external SDR receiver. It can then produce a spectrumscope - waterfall display pattern of the receiver signals on a compatible tablet or monitor and PC that is running the appropriate third party SDR software. DX Engineering offers two Clifton Labs Buffer Amplifier Kits to add an IF output SMA connector to the rear panel of your radio: * The DXE-Z10000U-KIT is the Universal Buffer Amplifier Kit that covers 50 kHz to 100 MHz. This kit is designed for those willing to do an internal modification, and will output the IF signal of virtually any receiver or transceiver that has an IF in that range. However, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT can be used as a buffer and low-gain preamp between any low level RF devices that operate in that range. As a buffer, this circuit provides over 90dB of reverse isolation to protect the IF stages of the radio from possible birdies on an SDR receiver input. So, even if your radio has an IF output connector, the DXE-Z10000U-KIT may be used externally, with a user-supplied shielded metal enclosure, to be certain to maintain proper radio operation. * The DXE-Z10000K2-KIT is the Buffer Amplifier Kit specifically tuned to the 4.915 MHz IF signal of the Elecraft K2 transceiver. It offers the same high reverse isolation, plus the added benefit of a tuned IF input with a narrower bandwidth of operation and a potentially a lower noise floor on the output. Both Buffer Amp kits contain the updated, completely assembled and tested DX Engineering Z10000C PC Board with a nominal 6.5 dB gain, retaining all the benefits of the reliable original Z10000B boards. Both kits include our finished printed circuit board, required coaxial cables assemblies with special connectors, insulating materials, and hardware—all for an easier installation than ever before! A third party SDR receiver, software (typically free) and compatible tablet or PC and monitor are required to make use of the IF signal provided by the Z10000 Buffer Amplifier and see the signals that your old radio can hear. Due to the high number of specialized radio installations, no printed instructions are included with these buffer kits. Instructional web links are found on the part detail webpages. Installation web documents and videos are only available online. The legacy that was built by Jack Smith, K8ZOA (SK), with Clifton Laboratories, lives on with select products, exclusively from DX Engineering. NOTE: DX Engineering cannot provide electronic technical support of devices installed in user radios and is not responsible or liable for damages that occur to a user radio due to improper or erroneous techniques during the installation of this product. Unplug all electronic devices when working on them and observe all electrical safety and electrostatic discharge precautions when opening sensitive electronics. Modification of a radio should only be attempted by individuals with advanced experience on electronic circuit repair and operation.

DX Engineering Control Line Terminal Boards

DX Engineering Control Line Terminal Boards are designed to provide a flexible and simplified approach to control line surge protection. The DXE-CLTB is a small, 3 inch square printed circuit board (PCB) with four ten-wire compression screw terminal blocks that handle from 14 to 26 AWG conductors and up to 10A. The two outer terminal blocks are for input and output of the control wires and the two 45 degree angled ten-wire compression screw terminal blocks are for connecting the required number of individual electronic surge protection components. This provides for the choice of components to install between the control line and ground for shunt protection. Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV), Gas Discharge Tube (GDT), EMP Suppressor TVS Diodes, RF Bypass Capacitors and other wire lead components are easily connected between each control line conductor and ground with the DXE-CLTB. This open-board, no-chassis concept allows easy mounting on a single point grounding panel, to support simplified inspection and exchange of control line electronic surge protection components that should be done on a regular basis. For effective protection wherever electronic devices are used as a shunt to ground, a low impedance ground is crucial. The DXE-CLTB Control Line Terminal Board has four corner ground plane screw holes. It includes a hardware kit of four self-tapping screws, spacers and external tooth washers, for mounting the PCB on a metal grounding panel inside an enclosure. The DXE-CLTB-M Control Line Terminal Board also includes a 10-pack of MOVs. The following components are available separately for a variety protection projects: DXE-MOV-82VDC-10 Metal Oxide Varistor, Surge Protector, max. 82VDC/50VAC Pack of 10 DXE-GDT-4KV-5 Gas Discharge Tube, Surge Arrestor, 4kV, Pack of 5 DXE-TVS-1500-10 ESD Suppressor, TVS Diode, Bidirectional, 17VDC max., Pack of 10 DXE-CAP-PT1UF-10 Capacitor, Ceramic, 0.1uf, 1kV DC, RF Bypass, Pack of 10

SOTAbeams Fuser 6 DC Distribution Boxes

SOTAbeams Fuser 6 DC Distribution Boxes are the lightest PowerPole® distribution boxes… by far! SOTABEAMS PowerPole® Fuser-6 boxes make light work of connecting five accessories to your power source (they have one input and 5 outputs). All of the connectors are individually fused. In a typical shack you might have a 100 Watt HF radio, a 50 watt 2m FM radio, an antenna tuner and a QRP rig all connected to your Fuser-6 - and still have a spare connector! Fuser-6 boxes are supplied with three 25 Amp and three 5 Amp fuses. Standard automotive blade fuses make replacement easy - these are widely available with values from 1 to 30 Amps. Fuser-6 units incorporate a polarity warning system; lights GREEN for CORRECT and RED for REVERSE. It's handy when you have a battery connected to the system to help avoid damage to your equipment if you accidentally get the battery connections reversed. Fuser-6 internal circuitry is rated at 25 Amps (30 Amp surge); no mean feat for a PCB design. To achieve SOTAbeams had to use a special PCB with double weight copper. They also use a clever design to further improve the current handling: ultra-wide copper tracks are used on both sides of the board. The boards are then roller tinned (on both sides) to reduce the resistance and handle heat even better. They use plated through holes, carefully located to ensure an even current distribution between each face of the board. Of course, Fuser-6 boards use genuine Anderson PCB contacts for lower contact resistance and improved reliability. NOTE: For best kit results use a soldering iron of at least 50 Watts. Additional flux is also helpful to ensure a good result. Additional details: * 25 Amps continuous, 30 Amps surge (adjacent connectors) * 1 input, 5 outputs * Power Bus resistance typically less than 1.80 milliohms end to end * Weight 135 g (less than 5 oz.) * W 68 x L 130 x H 40 mm (excluding connectors) 2.75 x 5 x 1.6 in. Whether you use one for your go kit, QRP setup or for use in the shack, these SOTAbeams Fuser 6 DC Distribution Boxes from DX Engineering are a handy DC power solution.

SOTAbeams LASERBEAM DSP Filter Modules

SOTAbeams LASERBEAM DSP Filter Modules work much better at reducing QRM than mechanical or analog filters. SOTAbeams applies special algorithm-based software to create well-defined passbands with steep contours. SOTAbeams offers their General Purpose, CW and SSB filter modules with switchable passbands. For example, the CW module (SBM-LB-MODULE-CW) may be used with either a 550 to 850 Hz passband, or a wider 300 to 1300 Hz passband. You choose the passband based on your own band conditions. Their SSB module (SBM-LB-MODULESSB) features passbands of either 300 to 2700 Hz or 300 to 2400 Hz. SOTAbeams designers have determined that these passbands work very well for SSB voice filtering. They offer their General Purpose filter module (SBM-LB-MODULE-GP) to accommodate both CW and SSB. These modules have selectable passbands of 550 to 850 Hz and also 300 to 2700 Hz. In this way you may limit CW or SSB QRM that is outside the selected audio passband. Be advised that these modules are NOT of the plug-in style. To use them takes some knowledge and soldering skill. You will also have to add an enclosure, if desired, as well as external parts not supplied with the PCBs. As designed, these modules will drive typical "low power" earbuds all by themselves. They will also drive audio amplifiers or amplified speakers. Note: Whenever the DX Engineering "Documentation" tab is available, please look at the associated files for additional product information. Are you tired of battling the QRM? Order SOTAbeams LASERBEAM DSP Filter Modules from DX Engineering to hold those signals at bay!

YCCC Vertical Array Directional Switch Console Kits

Closeout- Other YCCC array components are no longer available YCCC Vertical Array Directional Switch Console Kits were used to control the YCCC vertical array combiner/controller units, which have been discontinued. They feature an attractive cabinet with an ergonomic direction-selector knob and direction indicating LEDs. Power Pole type connectors are used for DC power connection. These kits require component-level assembly and soldering parts to a PCB. The switching console is installed in the shack, with the control cable run from the switching unit to the combiner/controller unit at the array. Power for the entire antenna system is provided by a 13.8V DC (1A capability or greater) power supply that the user must provide. Use of a "wall wart" type of power supply is not recommended because they generally have very poor DC regulation. These switch units are for use ONLY with YCCC vertical antenna arrays, which are discontinued and no longer available for sale. All inquiries and technical support for these YCCC kits and kit packages is handled by e-mail only, typically within two to three business days: yccctechsupport@verizon.net

West Mountain Radio CLRmodule ClearSpeech® DSP Noise Reduction Board

West Mountain Radio CLRmodule ClearSpeech® DSP Noise Reduction Board – a DIY project for DSP filtering. Once configured and developed, the CLRmodule can connect directly to a radio audio. It is extremely effective in making improvements to the clarity and readability of radio communications. QSO's will be more enjoyable without the fatigue of background noise. In many cases, there will be a noticeable improvement in understanding weaker signals, making contacts, and general listening. CLRmodule Digital Signal Processor (DSP) noise reduction is excellent for passing voice and CW as the DSP recognizes the intermittent nature of CW and allows it to pass noise free. It attenuates atmospheric noise, hum, hiss, whistles, and static and effectively removes heterodynes, ignition noise, lightning crashes and power line noise. The process is dynamic and changes with the interference and the signal, but the effect is rewarding. Operation is more fun without all of the background noise. Click "More Details" and the link to the manual in the Documentation tab to read and understand very important details about how to utilize this DIY project device- the West Mountain Radio CLRmodule ClearSpeech® DSP Noise Reduction Board.
