I erected a new 55 ft. (self supporting) DX Engineering 8040VA-1 vertical antenna with 80 radials to replace an aging, wind-damaged Butternut HF2V that served me well at various locations in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The new DXE antenna was easy to assemble and has proven to be a superior performer. Within just a few weeks of operation, I easily worked Peter - ZS1JX near Capetown, South Africa on 80M using a max 15 watts o/p from my trusty Ten Tec Argonaut V! This was followed by a great contact on 40M with Brian - ZL3XDJ near Dunedin, New Zealand (he was using only 10W into a ground loop). Recently, I was even able to crack pileups on both 40 and 80 for the PT0S DXpedition (again, feeding only 15 watts into my new DXE vertical)! Douglas Thomas Elton Mein - VA3DM
