Clamping an Antenna to a Mast

A customer wrote in and said:

I have a Shakespeare UHF-VHF antenna that I want to mount on a 1-1/2 to 2 inch diameter pipe. It has a marine thread mount on the bottom, but I have other antennas than have a smooth sleeve at the base of the antenna that are suitable for clamping to a mast. Looking at a similar antenna: Comet CA-F72GF UHF Base Vertical Antenna and you will get the idea. It would be something using v-clamps. I'm sure I'm not the only person who would be interested in something like this.

Our answer:

Luckily, we have run into this before. The most effective way of mounting an antenna with an insulated base such as this to a mast is to use the DXE-UMP-2 Universal Mounting Plate with two DXE-SSVC-2P V-Clamps and 2 DXE-CAVS-2P V-Clamps.

The DXE-UMP-2 is a 3-1/2" x 8" x 1/4" thick aluminum plate, pre-drilled to accommodate a number of different sized clamps (1/2", 3/4" and 2" clamps).

The DXE-SSVC-2P clamps are ideal for mounting to a mast or steel pipe. The stainless steel saddle has teeth that grip into the steel mast and hold perfectly and the V-Bolt will accommodate mast sizes ranging from 1 to 2 inches, outside diameter.

For the antenna base, the DXE-CAVS-2P clamps use a smooth cast aluminum saddle and use a V-Bolt that holds an insulated antenna base ranging in size from 1 to 2 inches, outside diameter.

As with any stainless steel hardware, use a thread lubricant such as Never-Seez or Anti-Seize to prevent thread galling.
