Better Steering Feel and Response with Race-Proven Turn One Pumps and Boxes
Most factory power steering systems were not designed for high performance use. Aggressive driving combined with upgrades like performance tires and modified steering geometry put a lot of stress on the system, especially from high fluid temperatures.
That’s where Turn One Steering comes in. Started by an enthusiast who earned his chops as a ride and handling engineer at GM’s Saginaw Steering Gear division, Turn One makes power steering pumps, steering boxes, and other components that improve steering feel and response for street-driven and race vehicles. Look under the hoods of most NASCAR rides, Formula Drift, and Trans Am Series cars and chances are you’ll find a Turn One pump or box.
Summit Racing offers these Turn One Steering components:
HP1 and HP2 Power Steering Pumps
The HP series GM Type II power steering pumps are hand-built in the USA with all-new parts. Turn One modifies the internal components to reduce fluid flow within the pump, reducing the horsepower draw needed to build pressure in the system. The reduction in flow also lowers friction heat in the fluid, which allows the pump to run cooler than stock pumps. That last benefit prevents the pumps from overheating during hard driving, which can reduce power assist and steering response. Turn One even dyno-tests each pump to ensure it performs as advertised.
The HP1 pumps have a 1,500 PSI pressure capacity and are ideal for street-driven cars. The HP2 pumps have a 1,800 PSI pressure capacity and upgraded SKF driveshaft bearings that can handle the demands of track day and full-on race cars. Both are available in universal-fit and direct-replacement versions for these cars:
• C5 and C6 Corvette
• 1998-02 Camaro/Firebird with LS1
• 2005-06 Pontiac GTO with LS2
• Cadillac CTS-V
• 2005-10 Dodge Charger/Challenger SRT8
Street Series Power Steering Pumps
Not everyone needs a high-performance power steering pump, but they do want one that won’t crap out the first time out on the road. Turn One Street Series pumps are brand-new, USA-made GM Type II pumps that are less expensive than an OEM pump at the dealer, but are much higher quality than many pumps made offshore. They’re available in universal-fit versions and for C5/C6 Corvette.
SB1 Series Power Steering Boxes
Turn One's SB1 Series steering boxes are a direct replacement for the factory Saginaw 700 boxes used on GM vehicles from the 1960s through the 1990s. The all-new steering boxes have rack and pinion-style steering technology for better feel and response, and are available in three ratios—8:1, 10:1, and 12.7:1. Features include:
• Five pounds lighter than factory
• Hand-built with all-new components
• Choice of GM metric O-ring or -6 AN fittings
• Available in natural or ceramic-plated finishes
We also carry Turn One power steering pump pulleys in standard and overdrive ratios; flow restrictors to fine-tune steering response; and fittings to complete your installation.
Turn One recommends using synthetic power steering fluid with its pumps. Summit Racing carries power steering fluid from Red Line, Lucas, Royal Purple, Driven Racing, and other top-quality brands.
