Brian Tooley Racing Camshafts and Valvetrain Gear Now Available at Summit Racing

You can hardly bump into a gathering of GM LS engine enthusiasts and not hear the name Brian Tooley. His camshafts and valvetrain components can help turn a factory-tame LS engine into a power-making monster. Just ask Jessie Coulter—he won the 2017 and 2018 National Muscle Car Association Xtreme Street Championship running a Brian Tooley camshaft in his turbocharged 1991 Camaro.

Summit Racing now carries Brian Tooley Racing camshafts, valve spring kits, and pushrods—here are a few of the available parts:

Turbo Camshafts
Choose from two hydraulic roller grinds:

• The Stage 2 camshaft is an excellent choice for 5.3L and 6.0L engines with cathedral port heads. It works well with turbos as small as a Precision 7275 up to BorgWarner’s 88mm S400. Specs are 226°/231° duration @ .050 inch lift, .605/.598 inch lift, 113° lobe separation
• The Stage 3 camshaft RPMs a little higher than the Stage 2. It’s ideal for a lightweight car running a 5.3L or 6.0L LS with a big turbo and a Powerglide transmission. Specs are 230°/235° duration @ .050 inch lift, .609/.610 inch lift, 114° lobe separation

Truck Camshafts
Brian Tooley Racing hydraulic roller camshafts for LS truck engines are designed for use with factory LS2, LS3 and LS6 valve springs and pushrods—you get more performance without having to spend money on upgraded valvetrain parts.

• The Stage 2 cam has a noticeable lope at idle and makes good overall torque. It’s the largest cam Brian Tooley Racing recommends for a 4.8L/5.3L engine with a 4L60E transmission and a factory torque converter. Specs are 212°/218° duration @ .050 inch lift, .553 inch lift, 113° lobe separation
• The Stage 3 cam has a lumpier lope at idle and makes more torque than the Stage 2 cam. A 2,800-3,000 RPM stall torque converter is recommended. Specs are 218°/224° duration @ .050 inch lift, .553 inch lift, 113° lobe separation
• The Stage 4 cam is ideal for 6.0L and 6.2L engines. A 3,000-3,200 RPM stall converter is a must. Specs are 224°/230° duration @ .050 inch lift, .553/.547 inch lift, 111° lobe separation

Platinum Valve Spring Kits
Upgrading your valve springs is a must for cams rated above .600 inches of valve lift. The Platinum kits come with polished dual valve springs, valve locks and seals, and locators for stock or bronze valve guides. We have kits with steel valve spring retainers for Gen III and Gen IV LS engines, and kits with titanium retainers for Gen III/Gen IV LS and Gen 5 LT engines.

Pushrods
These one-piece pushrods are made from SAE 4130 chromoly steel tubing, centerless ground to exacting tolerances, and case hardened to Rc 60 specifications. The 5/16 and 11/32 inch pushrods have a .080 inch thick wall; the 3/8 inch pushrods have a .015 inch thick wall. Available in various lengths from 7.200 to 8.150 inches.

Summit Racing also carries other Brian Tooley Racing camshafts, plus a nifty piston ring compressor. The compressor has a small reverse chamfer at the bottom that locates it exactly over the center of the cylinder bore, and also reduces the chance of the oil ring getting caught between the compressor and the top of the engine block.
