Build Your 5.3L LS from Wild to Mild (ish) with a BTR 5.3L GM LS Power Package
It’s good to have choices. For example, Summit Racing offers not one, not three, but five BTR 5.3L GM LS Power Packages. They feature components—cylinder heads, hydraulic roller camshaft, and intake manifold—dyno-matched and ready to wake up your little LS engine. Choose the power level you want and have at it; they’re some of the best packages for engines with a factory bottom end.
The Power Packages are based on BTR’s Canted Valve LS cylinder heads. Using NASCAR-proven technology, BTR rotated the intake valve by five degrees and exhaust valves by three degrees from factory spec for maximum valve unshrouding and sizing. That means more airflow—we’re talking over 360 cfm on the intake side at .650-inch lift. The heads can be used with factory-style flat top Gen III and Gen IV pistons with cams designed to fit inline-valve cylinder heads.
Features include:
• Cast and machined in the USA
• CNC ported 250cc intake runners
• CNC-machined 63cc combustion chambers with LT1 style 2.125-/1.590-inch valves
• Gen V TL1-style 1.306-inch OD dual valve springs rated to .660-inch lift
• Six-bolt retention pattern
• Extra-thick .750-inch deck
• Clearance for 3/8-inch pushrods
• Uses OEM-style LS1 pedestal rockers, intake and exhaust manifolds, and valve covers
• Uses Gen V LT1-style long-reach spark plugs
• For use with 3.780-inch and larger cylinder bores
The BTR 5.3L LS Power Packages also include:
• Intake manifold and fuel rail kit
• Hydraulic roller camshaft, LS7 style lifters, and lifter trays
• Pushrods
• Intake and exhaust gaskets
Take your pick of five BTR Power Packages:
SBE 550 HP Power Package
Horsepower: 546 at 7,675 RPM
Torque: 409.4 lbs.-ft. at 5,950 RPM
This is the one to get if you have a dedicated Drag Week-style or track day car. It trades some street manners for more horsepower and a powerband that pulls hard all the way to redline. The package comes with BTR’s V2 Stage 4 camshaft rated at 233° duration @ .050-inch lift and .636-inch lift with factory rocker arms. Lobe separation is 111°.
You also get BTR’s Trinity Series LS1-style intake manifold. The three-piece short runner design has a recommended operating range of 6,000-8,500 RPM (naturally aspirated) or 3,000-6,500 RPM (boosted). The intake uses the higher LT1 throttle body position but will fit in the tight confines of the C5/C6/C7 Corvette and fourth-gen F-body platforms. A matching fuel rail kit is also included.
Red Hot 530 HP Power Package
Horsepower: 530.9 at 7,650 RPM
Torque: 410.1 lbs.-ft. at 5,950 RPM
This package is for folks that love rowing gears and shifting at redline. It will help a 5.3L pull well north of 7,000 RPM thanks to the BTR Red Hot camshaft rated at 221° duration @ .050-inch lift and .619-/.517-inch lift with a 113° lobe separation. You also get the Trinity Series intake manifold and fuel rail kit.
Hot Rod 520 HP Power Package
Horsepower: 523.9 at 7,250 RPM
Torque: 407.3 lbs.-ft. at 6,075 RPM
This package is for the true street/track folks that want more top-end power without losing street manners. It features BTR’s Hot Rod camshaft rated at 219° duration @ .050-inch lift and .619-/.607-inch lift with a 114° lobe separation. It too comes with the Trinity Series intake manifold and fuel rail kit.
Truck Max 470 HP Power Package
Horsepower: 471 at 6,650 RPM
Torque: 432.3 lbs.-ft. at 5,225 RPM
This package provides plenty of punch when you roll into the throttle. It’s ideal for heavier street trucks where you want the engine to pull hard in the midrange without excessive RPM.
The Truck Max package features BTR’s V4 camshaft rated at 219° duration @ .050-inch lift, .553-inch lift with factory rocker arms, and 108.5° of lobe separation. You also get an ACDelco Genuine GM Parts Trailblazer SS composite intake manifold and Vortec fuel rails.
Truck Norris 460 HP Power Package
Horsepower: 458.6 at 6,450 RPM
Torque: 398.5 lbs.-ft. at 4,550 RPM
If you want a rumpity-rump idle to go along with strong low- and midrange power, this is the package for you. Designed for daily-driven trucks and performance street, it has the same ACDelco intake and fuel rails as the Truck Max package but comes with BTR’s Truck Norris camshaft rated at 212° duration @ .050-inch lift and .553-inch lift. Lobe separation is 107°.
