Ditch Your Engine-Driven Power Steering Pump with an EPAS Performance Hydroelectric Pump System
Traditional hydraulic power steering pumps work well, but they’re nothing to look at, can leak, and rob your engine of a couple of horsepower. But you can pretty up your engine’s accessory drive system, eliminate leaks, and stop the horsepower larceny with an EPAS Hydroelectric Pump System.
Designed for vehicles that have been updated with hydraulic rack and pinion steering or a Borgeson power steering box, the EPAS system replaces the mechanically-driven hydraulic pump, hose, and belt with an electrically-powered hydraulic pump, an angle sensor, and a control module. The pump plumbs to the rack or steering box with hydraulic hose just like the old pump. The angle sensor mounts on the steering column and tells the control module to activate the pump and provide power assistance when you turn the steering wheel. It’s a pretty slick setup, and perfect for vehicles with a swapped-in GM LS or other modern engine not intended for use with hydraulic steering.
The EPAS Performance Hydroelectric Pump System includes six feet of high-pressure hose, six feet of low pressure return hose, and a plug-and-play wiring harness with a simple two-wire hookup (ignition hot and battery). The pump can be located anywhere in the vehicle, but EPAS says not to exceed a hydraulic hose length of 17 feet.
