Drop Some Weight with Glasstek Fiberglass Body Parts

Putting your race car on a diet can help improve performance. The general rule of thumb is dropping 100 pounds can net a tenth of a second reduction in ETs. That’s a good reason to consider replacing some of your car’s heavy factory steel with lightweight Glasstek body parts.

Glasstek has been making fiberglass parts for over 30 years. Fiberglass is hand-laid to produce a stronger, more durable part than ‘chopper gun’-produced parts. Glasstek uses a sandable, semi-gloss black gelcoat to reduce your prep time. Some parts do require some trimming and fitting, but once that’s done you can sand, primer, and paint.

Hoods
Summit Racing carries over 680 Glasstek hoods. We’ve got your stock hoods, your cowl induction hoods, your L88 hoods—all the hoods. Bolt-on hoods have reinforcements for use with factory hood hinges and provisions for the hood latch. The pin-on hoods are lift-off and require pins front and rear. Glasstek recommends using front hood pins with a bolt-on hood to keep it secure at speeds above 120 MPH.

Front Ends
If you really want to save some weight, replace your car’s heavy steel front sheetmetal with a Glasstek Pro Front End. The one-piece clips have the fenders, grille area, bumper, and headlight locations molded in. Some are available with fenders extended six inches for Pro style cars.

Glasstek Pro Front Ends are lift-offs, designed to be secured to the car’s chassis with quarter-turn fasteners. The Pro Front Ends will work with Glasstek pin-on hoods only.

Dash Panels
When you’re searching for every last ounce of weight savings, even the factory dashboard has to go. Glasstek makes lightweight Dash Panels to replace the heavy factory unit. The fiberglass panels have the basic outlines for the instrument panel and control panel(s), allowing you to mount the gauges, digital dashes, switch panels, and other items you want to use. Glasstek Dash Panels are available for popular GM, Ford, and Mopar cars. We even have dash panels for AMC Rambler Americans, Javelins, and AMXs.
